Hello,
I am a 40 something mother of 3 amazing boys. I never had any weight issues until my mid 20's. I then started to gain slowly over the years. After losing both parents to heart disease before 60, I decided to do something about my weight. I also have RA, Fibromyalga and Asthma.
My mom was always on the chubby side. In her 20's she became very heavy. I always remember her being 'Big'. She only started to lose weight as she got sicker. My dad was a tall average guy
After having my 3rd son and losing mom at 55, I needed to make some changes. I had the Lap-Band put in in 2009. I did great. I was about 20 lbs from my goal and I was feeling wonderful...Then my body decided it didn't like the band. My RA was in constant flare. I was in pain, I was throwing up with every meal and I was exhausted all the time. It was suggested by my Rheumatologist and Bariatric doctor to remove the band. I had it taken out in 2012.
Fast forward to 2014. I went through a nasty divorce/custody battle. Moved out of my 'home' and moved forward. I met an AMAZING man and got very 'comfortable'. I put some weight back on quickly. Once again, my RA went crazy.
I went to see Dr. Cepeda and we discussed doing the Gastric Sleeve. I waited my insurance required 4 months and Had it done on 1/13/16.
It was very easy to get ready for the surgery, having already gone through one Bariatric event, lol. Eating slower, chewing more and such was like riding a bike for me. I am so happy with my decision. I have an amazing support system, a wonderful group of doctors and a positive attitude. Look out world, here I come. I will be stronger and healthier then ever!
