Anyone having surgery Feb. 15th?
Shiloh2004 replied to songsmith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Started my 2 week pre op liquid diet today. I am using chocolate and strawberry protein shakes (Bariatric Advantage). I had to come up with a schedule to get in all my nutrition, supplements, water, and exercise. Plus I have to account for appointments. I am not hungry at all. Those shakes fill me up! I have already walked once today. I hope to maybe ATTEMPT to hit tennis balls for a little bit with my husband later. Please wish me luck. If anybody wants to be a buddy during this adventure, please let me know. -
Pre Op Diet... Surgery date close
Shiloh2004 replied to Positive44's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I begin the pre op diet tomorrow. I feel fairly confident that I can do this. I am having surgery on 2/15. I pretty much have my days scheduled so that I get get all my nutrients. I have scheduled exercise. My biggest problem is that I have led a pretty sedentary life for a long time. I have to get off the couch and on my feet and begin walking, starting slowly but being consistent. I will walk each day and build up my number of steps each day. I also hope to go to the gym next week and work out. During my younger years I was very athletic. I LOVED being active. Depression and medication have been my worst enemies. Tomorrow is the beginning of my new life. I wish you all the best! -
Getting in Fluids....
Shiloh2004 replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Measure everything. I believe your protein shakes and soup count toward your total intake of liquids per day. Figure out how much of those youo have each day and measure your water for the remainder of the day. Once you include the shakes and soups, you really don't have a whole lot of water to drink to reach your 64 oz. goal.. -
My husband did the same thing at first. I just told him to look at me and remember the number of diets I had tried and failed at in the past. I just came out and told him that this was my body and the decision to have surgery was mine alone. I told him I needed his total suport to be successful. He is now on board and very encouraging. I have so many comorbidities that I believe this is by far my best alternative. He is going to go see the doctor with me on the 5th for my pre op checkup. I am glad he has agreed to do that. He will then be able to ask the questions he wants answered. Stand firm. This is your decision. Good luck!

Protein shake-need help!
Shiloh2004 replied to 4shiggles's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just purchased my supplies today. I got a sample pack last week and tried all the flavors. I chose chocolate and strawberry. I just use cold water to mix them and then use the shaker cup supplied with the sample pack. I really like the taste of these shakes. I shake them up quite a bit and have had absolutely no chalky taste. I am using Bariatric Advantage. I would highly recommend it. -
Psych eval & nutitionist
Shiloh2004 replied to NitzayJose Ulloa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the doctor's office today to pick up my supplies for my pre op liquid diet. I was called into my case manager's office and she informed me that the doctor scheduled to perform my surgery on February 15 was no longer with the practice as of 5:00 yesterday. So I now have another doctor performing the surgery on the same day. I had a chance to meet him today and I really liked him. My pre op visit will now be Feb. 5 rather than Feb. 9. I am so relieved that the surgery date remained the same. That date was kind of stuck in my head. After meeting the doctor, I purchased my supplies. I cant believe I begin my liquid diet on Monday.! I am just glad everything worked out OK. -
Angel Soul, I have a LONG history of depression and anxiety and a little OCD. I was really worried about the psych eval. I was open and honest about my past and present problems, and admitted to seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist. I still passed and my surgery is scheduled for Feb. 15. If your doctor's office offers support groups, I would recommend them. I plan on attending as many as possible. Best wishes! You'll be fine. I worried for nothing!

Psych eval & nutitionist

Will do! I start Monday with 4-5 protein shakes a day, going for 70 g. of protein each day. Each of those is 8 oz. so that's 32-40 oz. of liquid. I am allso supposed to get some bariatric soup, which can count toward protein and liquid totals. The remainder of the 64 oz. of flluids will come from water. My nutritionist told me today I could also have up to 2 cups of milk (1% milk fat or less) a day. I plan on going to purchase all my supplies tomorrow. I also have to be on iron, calcium, B12, and D. I have tried the protein shakes, and they are actually very could with cold wate if you shake them up really well. My favorites are chocolate and strawberry, but banana and vanilla are good, too. I will let you know what I end up getting tomorrow. I was really surprised at how tasty the shakes were and how filling they were. I think that there is enough variety for me to make it through until surgery. If I were you, I would buy a sampler of protein shakes just so you can figure out what flavors you like. I did that and it has helped me feel more prepared. Talk to you tomorrow! -

I had my psych eval the first part of January, but we went out of town right afterwards so my consult and results were delayed by 3 weeks. That drove me nuts, but I had a good vacation so all was OK. It seemed like Jan 27 would never get here! But I felt so good yesterday when I got the results. The office set me right up with my surgery date of Feb. 15. I am so thrilled but nervous at the same time. I have tried the protein shakes and they are good. Didn't like the Latte too much. So far I haven't felt hungry. I don't start my liquid diet officially until Monday, but I am doing protein shakes and water most of the day with maybe one very small meal like soup. I have not been hungry so far. You're going to do fine! Pretty soon your date will be set and you will be ready for your adventure to a new you. I wish you all te very best. I am here if you need to talk. -
Waiting for the results of my psych eval. Get them tomorrow morning along with my consult. This is the last step for me in order to be approved for my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I am nervous abot getting the results. I have problems with depression and anxiety anyway, so I see a therapist twice a week. She will continue to be part of my support team. I was very honest when I took the test. I thought the psychologist and surgeon deserved to truly know the real me. I want this surgery badly for so many reasons. Wish me luck.

I am in the process of getting approved for the vertical sleeve gastrectomy so I am not in your shoes yet. I should find out more Wednesday. I have so many medical issues, most of them tied to being 100 lbs overweight. I am sick and tired of feeling the way I do. I want to feel better about myself. I want to feel better for my family. I want to see my grandchildren have kids. In order to do that, I must make some major sacrifices. At this moment, the pros outweigh the cons for me. As I approach surgery, I am sure that I will teeter on the fence. If you can talk with someone who is post op, or with someone in your support group tonight, please do so. This forum is here for you. We support you, but the choice comes down to being yours and yours alone. It will be difficult for all of us, but if we lean on each other, we can do this! -
