Emotional struggle after gastric sleeve
Shiloh2004 replied to KittyCathy22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am taking no vitamins at all. My surgeon took me off of those. I try to sip on a propel, and one lasts about the entire day or even runs into the next day. I try to eat a part of a hard-boiled egg when I get up in the morning. I usually do OK with that. Around lunch time I try some oatmeal with protein. Sometimes that comes back up. I have tried the protein shakes and the bouillon, but they make me sick. Jello works, as do Popsicles. I am on a ton of meds due to many medical issues. For the gastritis, I am on reglan, levsin, and omeprazole. I am on many meds for blood pressure, depression, anxiety, and stress. -

Anyone having surgery Feb. 15th?
Shiloh2004 replied to songsmith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Having a very hard time. Had surgery on 2/15. Everything went smoothly. On Sunday, 2/21, I received a call from my nephew in WV. He told me my only sibling (older brother) was in ICU and they were calling in the family. We arrived 2/22 at noon. He was in an induced coma. I got Togo back and be with him several times and talked to him. My prayer is that he was able to hear me. I was even able to have a little time alone with him. By that time, his lungs, kidneys, and liver had shut down. Machines were keeping him alive. He had told his wife he never wanted that. At 7:25 PM she told the staff to remove him from the machines. He died within 2 minutes. This is killing me. We were close. I could always count on him. As my big brother, he always protected me when I was a kid. I miss him so much. All of this has caused problems with my diet and exercise. I am not getting in enough nutrients. I am not exercising. I am exhausted and very depressed. I know I need to get back on track. But I don't really care. What do I do? -
Look forward to it! It will be the best thing you have ever done! Good luck. My was on the 15th.

February 2016 sleevers?
Shiloh2004 replied to NYGirlxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The time will pass quickly! I had mine on 2/15. I have had problems with pain, gas, and nausea, but my doc gave me medicine to help and it is very effective. I feel stronger every day. The surgery itself was not bad at all! I do not have any regrets at all. I have started my new road on an adventure to a healthy new life. -

February 2016 sleevers?
Shiloh2004 replied to NYGirlxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kathychef, I had my surgery o Monday also. Everything has gone well, except for indigestion and some pain. Even drinking water out of tiny medicine cups gives me indigestion.. It feels as though everything gets stuck at the top of the esophagus . It really hurts! -
The gentleoso, you will be in my thoughts and prayers as we both undergo surgery tomorrow. I wish you all the very best during surgery and in your recovery. Please stay in touch!

Aprilnicole, be sure and tell the anesthesiologist about your anxiety. He/she will give you something to relax you before helping you sleep. Once you receive the medicine to relax you, you will still be kind of aware of your surroundings, but I guarantee it will take away any anxiety you feel. I was the same way, but i learned how to ask for what I needed. After they help you go to sleep, it will only seem like a minute until you wake up in recovery. And you will wake up and you will begin to conquer that anxiety you feel. I wish you all the best as you approach, go through the surgery, and recover. My surgery is tomorrow morning, so wish me luck!

Newbe 312, this Isopure is not as tasty as the Protein shakes were, but I can do it for a day. So far I am drinking blue raspberry. I have a different flavor for this afternoon and this evening. The time has seemed to drag by, but now that is is the day before surgery, it seems to have flown. I am looking forward to tomorrow. It will be good to get the surgery behind me and move on with my life as a new, healthier, happier person. I will have you in my thoughts and prayers as you undergo surgery tomorrow too. We will definitely be going through this together. Best wishes. Let's talk again after surgery!!!!! -

Info 127, I believe, based on what I have read and learned, that maybe you should contact your doctor. Just to be safe. Don't want an infection to begin. Will be thinking about you. -

Cherie F., welcome aboard!!! I am now having trouble sleeping because I am getting a little nervous about the surgery on Monday morning. Not because I regret my decision to have it,, but who likes surgery? We are supposed to have an ice storm, too, so my husband guarantees me he will get me to the hospital. I just hope my doctor can make it. I go on the Isopure Protein drinks today - clear liquid diet begins. So it will be Isopure and chicken bouillon and water today. I have several things to do tomorrow to prepare around the house. You know, the usual. But here I am awake in the middle of the night with a migraine . I hate headaches. Anyway, let's touch base again later today. If I don't "chat" with you, then I wish you all the best with your surgery on Tuesday. May everything so very smoothly and may your recovery be short and sweet. -

I am all for forming a support group. My surgery is Monday. I have been on a liquid diet since 2/1. Tomorrow I have to be on clear liquids only. I have surgery at 10:00 Monday morning. I am having the surgery in Gainesville, GA. Dr. Del Matho is my surgeon. I wish you all the very best. May things go smoothly for you on the 16th. Pretty soon we will begin our new, healthy lives. -
I have used the Bariatric Advantage protein shake. I have really liked the chocolate and strawberry flavored. I began pre op 2/1. Surgery is Monday!

I am so very sorry that this has happened. You need to try to get him into marriage counseling. I have read that this is not an uncommon event. You have so much going on right now. You have to hang in there. Talk with him. Tell him that a change in you physically will NOT change how much you love him. Tell him that his support is valuable always, but especially now. You are facing major surgery. You really need him now! He must feel very insecure and jealous that someone might come along and steal you from him. Reassure him! I pray you two can work things out, and that your surgery goes well and he stays by your side.

Shiloh2004 replied to songsmith's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I began my pre-op diet on Feb. 1. It certainly hasn't been easy, but I will make it. 4 days and counting until surgery. That's when my new, healthier, happier life will begin! Can't wait! -
I am so proud of you. I am going through a similar situation and it is difficult. I, too, have many health issues which include the morbid obesity, hypertension, migraines, lipidemia, depression, anxiety, GERD, lower back issues, hiatal hernia, etc. My Mom had to have a triple bypass. She was one of 10 kids and 5 died from heart attacks. Cancer got my Mom. My Dad died of cancer, but 2 of his 3 brothers died of massive heart attacks. I already have high cholesterol and high tryglicerides. I got to the point where I became scared. I want to stay around for a long time and be able to truly live life. I have naysayers in my life, too, telling me I can do this on my own. I know I can't. I have tried over and over. I have my surgery on Monday, the 15th. Only 6 days to go. This pre op diet is not easy by any means, but if all this will lead to weight loss and a healthier life, the naysayers can either be supportive or unfriend me. I am excited and scared at the same time. I wish you all the very best as you get ready for this life-changing event. We are all going to do great!

Feb. 15! One more week. I have followed my pre op diet religiously and had lost 9 pounds. Now I have put on a pound. I guess I need to work out more. I haven't been quite as good at that. Good luck to everyone!!!!

Protein shake-need help!
Shiloh2004 replied to 4shiggles's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I love the Bariatric Advantage chocolate and strawberry shakes. I found that, if you add the water to the shaker cup first, then add the protein and shake it up really well, they come out smooth and very tasty. -

Meds that increase appetite
Shiloh2004 replied to emk101009's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am on Wellbutrin, Sertraline, Clonazepam, and Rexulti. I have always dealt with depression and anxiety. I have be prescribed so many meds, and most of them caused a lot of weight gain. These seem to be doing OK now, but is I begin gaining weight after losing it, my first call will be to my psychiatrist. -

The pre op diet so far is great and pretty easy. I am following a pretty strict schedule so that I can keep track of what I need to "eat" and when. There's a lot to keep track of. I can tell you i have not been at all hungry. Even got in 1 1/2 hours of exercise. I think we can do this.
