I've had chronic back issues since back surgery in college and the weight gain after surgery has been a detriment to my physical and mental health since. I am young, 29, for this surgery, but I'm wanting to live a healthy married life for myself and my kids - and that's all starting to happen for me! I had  no luck with diets and exercise is so limited because of my back injury - every time I'd start losing weight with exercise, I'd injure my back further.
This decision was a hard one for me, but I'm so happy now that I've done it and the weight is coming off. 
The diet has not been an issue for me and the side effects of this surgery have been little to none. In general I'm more energetic and am looking forward to my walks every day. I haven't been able to handle more strenuous exercise past hiking up and down hill yet because of my back. Swimming and biking are fine too.
