You're BMI only has to be 40 at your original appointment. I was at 39. Then I ate everything in site before my first appointment. I was 41. (this was only 10lbs so I'm guessing 5 would have brought me to 40) Then I had my appointment, went on their very strict diet and lost back the weight in 3 weeks. I can't afford the surgery, had not other problems and needed to be at 40. Good Luck

I had to pay a $500.00 fee. I'm really in for the big time. Anyway, I was able to schedule every one of my tests in one morning. Call the hospital and see if they can schedule everything at once. Good Luck

Have to quit smoking before surgery???
jaylow replied to NikkiD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The program I am in tells you to quit smoking for 6 months prior to having the surgery. Their theory is that they are not going to give you surgery to remedy the second biggest death contributor in the country if you continue to engage in the first. Good luck. They did mention they check though I'm not sure how. Hope you get your surgery soon. -
I'm also an addict. As a matter of fact whenever I'm hungry I go on this site. I've had my initial meeting with psych, nutritionist and np. I'm going for all my medical tests of Friday and back for a second eval next Wednesday. I'm so excited for this new venture. Glad there is another addict out there.

Ok, that is even better than the gallbladder. I'm definitely using that one. -
What to tell co-workers

I have thought of the same thing. I work out of the house but it is the bus stop mothers. I can't figure out what to tell them about why I will not be at the bus stop. The medical procedure thing will just get there curiosity up. -
Marijuana Use After Surgery

I had the exact same question and not the guts to ask. Thanks. -
I have just begun the process and am going through the Emerson Hospital in Concord. It seems like they are very thorough. Make you eat high protein low carbs for at least 4 weeks before they even will consider you. I was hungry for the first two weeks but I think in the long run it will help you to be successful. Good luck.

I Had A Bulimic Problem In High School With A Short Relapse About 6 Years Ago Which I Immediately Received Counseling For. Has Anyone Had Trouble Being Approved For The Surgery Based On A Past History Of Bulimia? I'm Worried They May Deny Me.

I was wondering if anyone has had the lap band and drank liquor or smoked cigarettes after. I love having a drink now and then. I am two weeks into my pre op diet. Although, I am not missing liquor now I don't see a future in which I never have a drink at a social event again. Thanks for your honesty.

That is how I would like to live my life after the band also. Is it working for you? Are you continuing to lose weight? Thanks. Jackie

Help! Im having second thoughts.
jaylow replied to Jeremy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jeremy, I feel just like you. My doctor has put me on a one month high Protein low carb diet. I am thinking if I can live like this I will not need the lap band. Than the other half of me wakes up. The one that has lost weight repeatedly and never keeps it off. Now I'm the biggest I've ever been. I think I need to go through with it but question myself 20 times a day. -
Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
jaylow replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just went for my initial meeting. I was immediately put on a high protein very low carb diet. No caffeine, no alcohol, no sugar, white flour, etc. It is very difficult. I get a bit angry when I see others are not forced to suffer this way. I'm soo hungry -
i'm glad to hear this. I'm seriously thinking if i can continue to eat on the diet they have given me and maybe go a bit off on the weekend I can try to avoid the lap band. you inspired me,

Hi, I just had my initial meeting with psych, nutrition and nurse practitioner on 1/16. They gave me a very stringent diet to follow. It is worth it though. Hunger starting to subside. Good luck

If you live any where near a Trader Joes they have pre made protein drinks that have 32 grams of protein. They are not bad tasting. I am having between 70-86 grams of protein everyday per the nutritionist request and very little else. you get used to it.

Hi, I live in Massacusetts. I just had my first appointment yesterday. I need to go back in one month and must immediately begin the diet of protein and vegetables. I am suffering. Were others as hungry as I am. I read some people did not lost weight. They told me I must lose 10-12 lbs before they will even schedule me for the surgery. I'm afraid I won't lose the weight. has anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks
