  1. Hi, I have not been banded yet but have been on pre-op diet since January and have lost 25lbs. My stretchmarks hurt. Has this happened to anyone else. They must be getting better but you would think this would cause less pain. I"m wondering if I should call my MD. Thanks.

    Losing too much weight

Grace, I have to tell you that I'm not feeling your pain. I feel that I'm working like a dog and not losing much weight. Are you exercising?? maybe this is just a really good weight for your body and you just never knew it. I would skip the Mountain Dews. Tsk Tsk. They are probably filling you up and not adding nutrients
  3. I have to girls 4 and 9. they both have always eaten more than I and are stick thin. I have no intention of telling them about my surgery. They know that I am on a healthy diet that I chose to give up soda, bread etc. I don't know if this is the best solution or not just one I've chosen for myself.

    Newbie from MA

Hi, also from MA here. I have not been banded yet but have been on a high protein very low carb diet since January. Lost over 20lbs so far. Good luck on your venture.

    Has anyone had this experience?

I have the same body. I have not had the lap band yet but lost 15 lbs my firstg month of pre op diet. I have done nothing different this month and yet I have only lost 4 months. This is so disheartening. In the past I would have given up by now. The only reason I haven't is because I need to continue to lose weight to qualify. I hope the lap band will resolve this issue once and for all.
  6. Hi, I am just like you also. I went to the seminar in December. I started the journey in January and lost 20 lbs so far on the diet. I'm losing my mind. I have had all the testing done and lost all the required weight but they have not yet indicated they are submitting my paper work. I'm losing my mind. I want it now. Of course, once they tell me they will schedule me I'll be in panic mode. Just can't be satisfied.

    Keep changing my mind

I wish I was in a program that would approve me so quickly. I started this journey in December. I have lost 20 lbs so far on my own and I'm just waiting for them to tell me it is time to schedule me. Don't do anything until you are ready. You can still eat on a cruise but simply small amounts and enjoy all the other things the cruise has to offer.
  8. I'm going to Emerson in Concord, MA and they have a very similar plan. I did manage to get all the medical tests done but then when I went for my first month appointment they said congratulations you lost the required weight but come back in a month, bye bye.
  9. I like a protein drink called Carb Solutions. It can only be found in drugstore.com. It comes in Vanilla and Chocolate. I like it best made in the blender with ice cubes, 10 oz. of water and an additional sweet and low. It only has 120 calories, 1Carb and 19 grams of protein.

    I got the look...

When I told my pcp I was considering the lap band, she informed me that their office had done extensive research on overweight people The statistics show that those who have been significantly overweight for some time might lose the weight but less than 5% keep it off. I wish your pcp had done some research before opening their traps. Good luck
  11. Another Mass person saying hi. I'm from central MA. I have had all my testing done and am now waiting till they feel they can submit my information for insurance approval. Do it now while you are young. I am 42 years old. I have been big all my life with the few times I starved myself down to a size 10/12. If I had known about these surgeries years ago I sure would have done it. Live life and enjoy. Good luck
  12. Hi, I too have HPHC. I'm going through Emerson. They also have a $500.00 charge. I started in December and they have still not submitted my info although I think we have about the same to lose and I lost 15lbs the first month. My nutritionist is 25 and emaciated. I was bulimic in the past, that may delay some of my scheduling. I'm hoping that HPHC works as easy for me as it was for you. Maybe, I should have started at B&W hospital. Good Luck to you and kudos for such an enjoyable experience.

    Divorce After Weight Loss

Hi, When I got married I weighed 150lbs. I was still heavy but could also still be called cute. My husband has never said anything about my weight but our entire marriage he has been in love with his mother more than me. I have stayed with him through 2 nervous breakdowns and a fling with a lapdancer. The minute he got better from his first nervous breakdown the first thing he said after he recovered was I want to visit my mother. She never bothered to visit him. Over the course of our marriage I have gained 90lbs. I'm hoping that once I lose the weight I will have the courage to leave. He is an excellent father, and a doctor so we have a nice lifestyle. Unfortunately, playing second fiddle is slowly killing me. I am thinking the lap band with save me in so many ways.

    psych evaluation 3 hours???

my first eval was also 3.5 hours. I met with psych for an hour, a nurse practitioner for an hour and a nutritionist for an hour and a half. It was very thorough and I was glad for the scrutiny.

    Big Medicine

could someone let me know when this show is on. I would love to watch it. Thanks.

    WOW..didnt clear psych :(

Hi, greetings from another purger. I was a full fledged bulimic in high school and college. I conquered it with counseling. I had a relapse six years ago due to marital problems. I only purged a few times and went straight back to counseling. I was completely honest in my psych. counsel. They did tell me my past history would certainly not ruin my chances of lap band but that I would be monitored longer than a person who has not had been a bulimic. I understand the reasoning and I am ok with it although it is difficult going month to month and never knowing when they will see your time has come. I started my journey in December. I have lost 18lbs on the diet. It is only a drawback not the end of the world. Keep fighting the good fight. I completely understand your plight.
  17. Hi Shamrock girl. I'm in the program at Emerson. I am still at the dieting and evaluation point. I started the journey in December. hoping it won't be too much longer. Good luck to you.

    Big brother 9

just watched the first 2 episodes on Comcast On Demand. I think it is hard to follow the couples. I guess it will be a short season since they are getting rid of 2 at a time. Hope it gets better.

    Lap Band Obsession

I am also a Mass resident with Harvard Pilgrim. I had my initial meeting in December. I am now being monitored monthly to see when they feel that insurance will absolutely not reject my claim. I am obsessed with the forum and come to it several times daily, especially when hungry. Good luck with the venture

    Hi from western MA

Hi Allison, I'm from central MA. So far I have had my initial meeting. I met with therapist, nutritionist, and nurse practitioner. I have had all the medical tests and lost the required weight. I go back for my follow up appointment on Wednesday. I think we are in a similar place in this journey. Good luck to you and continue to post.
  21. Good for you for answering those negative comments. This site is to support each other. We don't need to hear things to make you feel worse or belittle you. Forget your one mistake. Eat protein first always. Stay away from the sugar wafers( I love them too) and you will be fine.
  22. The program I belong to makes you eat like a post bander for 1-2 months pre-op. It is not easy but I have already lost 14lbs in under a month. I think it would also weed out people like those you overheard in the office that would not lose the initial weight and therefore would not have been approved. It has been difficult but it also has helped me to understand this is a big and difficult road and I am happy to go down it. Keep fighting the good fight.
  23. I went to last months meeting and it seemed to me that all the bypass people were discussing how everything comes up on them. I want to eat like a regular person but in small amounts. I think if if was bypass or nothing I would not do it. I hope you feel you made the correct decision. This just seems like a healthier more natural way of life. Thanks so much for writing back. It really brings me peace.
  24. Hi, Great to hear from another Dr. Jiser patient. How long from your original appointment did they schedule you for surgery? I have lostg 14lbs so far. I have not had my 4 week follow up yet. It is this Wednesday. I have already lost the required weight but am wondering how much longer till they schedule me. Everyone else I have met at Concord had the bypass. So glad to hear from a bandster. You have done magnificent and our a great inspiration to me. I will be at the next meeting.
  25. five pounds might do it for you. I'm planning on having the surgery but am still in the pre op stage. Good Luck
