Hello my fellow sleevers, So I saw a surgeon in January who I was authorized to see through my primary doctor. He was in my network and I only paid a $15 Co pay on the day of the consultation. Come June, I got a bill in the mail for $480 minus the $246 payed by my insurance. My question is, is this kind of charge normal for just a regular consultation with an authorized surgeon???? No one can tell me why the bill was soo much that my insurance couldn't cover it.

Billed $480 for consultation. Is this normal?

I didn't know that you could do that. I'll look into if nothing progresses. Thank you! -

No, I tried calling the billing department of the surgeon. At first, they told me that my insurance billed me that much. Now they are saying that my medical group did but both are pointing their fingers at the surgeon. I don't know how to resolve this -

Yay I found my people! I don't have a surgery date yet but I'm expected to have the sleeve done next month in July -

Hi everyone, I just had my first consultation with my surgeon after completing the pre-op requirements for my insurance. During our consultation, he decided to require that I have three months of therapy to work through a possibility of alcohol addiction after the surgery. I'm an occasional social drinker who hasn't drank socially in over four months and I don't have any alcoholism in my family. Is this kind of decision normal for a surgeon to make? Because of this extension, I may not be able to have the surgery because my insurance plan expires within the timeline that the surgeon gave me. Now I am totally lost at what to do next. Help!

I tried during the consultation and he was set on his decision. He explained that this particular hospital is Seventh Day Adventist and they take extra precautions. I've sent the bariatric coordinator of the hospital an email clarifying my situation again with contact information for my regular therapist and still haven't heard a response

Hi everyone. Congrats on your weight loss! I'll be having my first consultation with Dr. Scharf on the 27th after completing my bariatric classes at Beaver Medical. Does anyone know at what point do I get to schedule the surgery? What does the timeline look like? Also, how was your experience at Loma Linda University? Was your room private or shared? Thanks!
