PatchMD vs Bariatric Advantage
Stephanne replied to NJGuy78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both the bariatric advantage chewables and the capsules make me instantly vomit. Those are what my dr recommends as well. I heard of the patches so I asked about those...they said they let one patient use them as kind of a "trial" and her labs were terrible so they do not recommend them at all. Basically it would just be a waste of money and like you weren't taking vitamins at all. So I tried several other brands of bariatric vitamins. All the chewables are chalky and make me vomit. All of the capsules are too big and make me vomit. They finally told me to take the gummies for now, it's better than nothing and hopefully later I'll be able to tolerate the capsules. I'm 6 weeks out from the sleeve at this point. -
I messed up and now I have to prolong my surgery
Stephanne replied to Angelsoul219's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gone through the entire process, psych evaluation, sleep study, everything then I found out there was a clause in my insurance and they weren't going to pay for any weight loss surgery at all ever so I and to back out. 1 1/2 years later my husband changed jobs and we had new insurance. The first thing I did was check to see if they covered bariatric surgery, they did! So I went back to the surgeon thinking I'd have to start from square one. They said they'd submit everything to insurance and see what they accepted and I would only have to redo the things they requested. Well, they approved me for surgery right away! I didn't have to redo any of it. Some of that stuff was over 2 years old. So, just take care of the things that need to be taken care of first and then come back to the surgery when you are ready. This surgery is HARD, physically AND emotionally. You need to be at the top of your game going into it. I know it's disappointing to be so close and not have it happen, but in the long run you'll be better off waiting. -
Hmmm. I have blue cross blue shield TX and didn't have any issues being approved. I didn't have a waiting period or anything. In fact, all of my pre-op stuff (psych evaluation, sleep study, etc.) was over a year old. The doctor's office wasn't sure if it would go through but decided to send it anyway just to see and I was approved. I didn't have to do a 6 month diet or anything. My BMI was 39.

I'm four weeks out and just this week I've started feeling better. I've had a lot of pain from the internal stitches pulling and I've been very careful not to lift anything over 10 lbs. I'm still exhausted a lot of the time and frequently take naps when I can. I would take the maximum amount of time that you possibly can. Not only are you healing from surgery but it's a roller coaster of emotions and learning how to eat with your new sleeve. My advise is 4 weeks bare minimum, 6 weeks would be even better.

anybody else's steri strips still on?
Stephanne replied to Mrs_O's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine were all lifted on the edges but weren't really coming off on their own. One of the incisions was clearly healed and the strips were the loosest there so I kind of tested it by pulling gently. I came right off, basically looked like it was just stuck on the scab. So then I carefully peeled the others off. They all came off very easily. I wouldn't have pulled them if they hurt or pulled at all though. I was about 2 weeks out. As for the adhesive, I just got it good and wet in the shower and rubbed it off with my finger. -
How to tell children about surgery
Stephanne replied to Npdavis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my kids (7, 10 &13) that I was having surgery to loose weight so that I would have more energy to play with them. I really emphasized the "more energy" and "healthier" side of things rather than just the weight loss. It seemed to work well for them. We went to church tonight for the first time since surgery 3 weeks ago. My middle son said one of his friends asked where he had been and he told him "my mom had surgery so we had to stay home so she could rest." Being a 10 yr old boy his friend asked what kind of surgery and my son told him that it was surgery so I would have more energy. I thought that was a pretty good answer for a 10 year old. -
