  1. I am still researching everything. I am wondering if anyone her has gone to either Dr Barker or Dr Davidson (both in Dallas, I think). I know Dr Davidson is at Presby Dallas and I think Dr Barker is in Mesquite. Anyway - have any of y'all had experience with either of these doctors? Can you tell me everything you know about them? How are they as surgeons? How's their bedside manor? Their staff? How did you feel about them? Dr Davidson is running a special right now for $9500 thru Feb 29 and my DH and I are both going to his seminar on Feb 6. TIA for any and all info on them!!
  2. So, I have UHC with LapBand being covered. Only thing, I have to have 2 co-mobidities (which I do). I submitted my medical records yesterday to LBS that show the High Cholesterol and shows where they decided to put me on BP meds due to high BP. How long should I expect to wait for UHC to approve the surgery? I am going thru Lapband solutions, so they should work pretty fast (from what I am understanding). The lady at LBS told me 7 to 10 days, but I'm so hoping it's sooner then that. What has been your experience with UHC and LapBand Solutions?
  3. The only thing I need (according to Lapband Solutions via UHC) is either 40+ BMI or under 40 BMI with 2 co-mobidities. I am around 36 or so with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Shoot, if they need MRIs of my back/neck, I have many of those too, as well as one of my head..... I am hoping that's all that is needed and it seems to be what Lapband Solutions seems to think I need after speaking with UHC.... BTW, I am going to use Dr Felts here in Richardson.
  4. I have a question.... In order to be diagnosed with something, you have to have it, right? What about High Cholesterol? If you have the high numbers, doesn't that mean you have it? Or, does the doctor have to actually make note in your charts that you have it? My numbers have been high the last few times I have had blood work done, but never been "officially" diagnosed I don't think. Would I have to actually be on medication to be seen as having it? My BMI is under 40 so I need 2 co-mobidities. I am on BP meds due to high blood pressure, so I need one more. My labs show me to have high cholesterol, but the doc doesn't want me on meds, she wants me to try diet and exercise first (HAHAHAHA).... Anyway, how does insurance look at these kinds of things? Will the labs that show high levels be enough or do I have to actually be on meds for them to see me with high cholesterol?

    UHC and diagnosis

I have a question.... I have UCH insurance and need to have 2 co-mobidities..... In order to be diagnosed with something, you have to have it, right? What about High Cholesterol? If you have the high numbers, doesn't that mean you have it? Or, does the doctor have to actually make note in your charts that you have it? 6. I did have the sleep study done and I don't have apnea... My cholesterol levels are 250 and my triglycerides levels are 221. So, according to my results I have high cholesterol. Guess I will need to see what UHC says...
  7. Has anyone used this facility? It's off the Tollway in Dallas. I just scheduled a study for tomorrow night and I'm a bit anxious. For one, I haven't been away from my dh or kids overnight in a LONG time and 2) I have a fear of the unknown, LOL! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I found out yesterday that my insurance covers the band, but since I have a BMI below 40, I need 2 comobidities... I have hight cholesterol, I'm pretty sure my bp is high (going to the doc for that on Friday) so I'm hoping to "seal the deal" with having sleep apnea. A little strange to hope for something to be wrong with me...
  8. Thank you for your response, Blund!!! I went for the study and the facility was very very nice. Had a room just like a hotell room (private bathroom, night stands, TV with Cable). It was so nice. I got hooked up on my chest, legs, back, face and head. And yeah, it's a bit hard to get to sleep with all those wires, but I managed to. Had to be waken at one point because I started sweating and that we interferring with things. THEN - 2:30am, I was waken up and told to go home. They lost all power and it didn't look to be coming back on anytime soon. So, I get all unhooked (by flashlight) and was told to come back for a RE do. So, I have to do this all over again Monday night, LOL! Even thru the power outtage, they were very professional. They have never had this kind of thing happen before, so they were pretty embarrassed. ** BTW, I only had 1.5 hours left of testing when the lights went out. I was the furthest along in the study last night, but those results are null. I have to start over from the begining....
  9. Well, I guess I can give my own experience in the morning! I'm going in about 45 minutes to do this study....
  10. pretty interesting and thought some here might want to watch....
  11. But, it's covered at 80/20 and only if I have 2 comobidities. I have a bmi of 37, so I need those comobidities. I have high cholesterol but I need to have one more. I may have high blood pressure because every time I go in my readings are always in the 140/90+ range. My PCP told me at one time that it's just high normal, but it's still normal. I am making an appointment specifically for my blood pressure because if it's high (even normal high), I need to know. I also have a call in to have a sleep study done, so that should be fun! I'm getting a bit excited about this because I thought for sure my insurance wouldn't cover it, but IT DOES! Just got to get them to approve me.

    Texarkana Bandsters

Who did y'all go to in Texarkana and how much was the procedure?
  13. Hey all! I'm brand new here and wanted to intro myself. My husband and I just participated in a seminar for the Lap Band and have scheduled our consultation for this next week. I'm excited about this as I have tried every diet known with no lasting results. I'm in the D/FW Texas area. Hope to get to know a lot of you here and hope to gain tons of support and knowledge from y'all!

    DFW Doctors

I've been researching and have met Dr Felts. He is more then likely who I will use when I get it done.

    DFW Area Bandsters

I'm in the D/FW area (Carrollton to be exact). My hubby and I have our 1st consult on Thurs in the Richardson office. If all goes well, we plan to be banded by Dr Felts. We attended his seminar over a week ago and are very excited about this. Dr Felts is such a nice person. We have UHC and are hoping it will be as easy as they (at the seminar) say it will be on getting it approved. I am tempted to call UHC and ask about coverage for it, but I am also afraid it will send a red flag and they will mark our coverage and not cover it, LOL! Silly, I know! Regardless of if it's covered, we are still going to have it done - even if we have to self pay. I'm hoping to be band by end of Feb if all things can go smooth.
