Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?

Despite at least 7 balloon endoscopes and a stent, the sweet taste of going from 310 to 175 makes it all worthwhile. It gets scary when you are in the mist of it, but that too shall pass. Best of luck -

Briswife; regarding the stent, I was an extreme case. I had the band for with years. The last two did a tremendous amount of damage to esophagus and stomach. When I had the bypass The nurse came out after 4 hrs and told my significant other that he had just started the bypass because of the amount of scar tissue and damage the scarring came back quickly causing the stomach to intestine junction to be too small and eventually closing up Very rare problem that can't be fixed with just one or two ballon endoscopes. Good luck with your endoscopy -

I had bouts of salivating for 10-20 minutes and dry heaving for another 20 minutes two to three hours after dinner for almost a year before they figured out what was wrong A five hour surgery later fixed the problem thank goodness for columbia Presbyterian in NYC Hang in there best of luck -

Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?
Steven1954 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had bypass in sept 2016 after band removal. Stricture appeared in late oct after five balloon endoscopys dr could not fixed to I went to columbia Presbyterian in ny. There they did two more before putting in stent. Stent stayed in three weeks before breaking loose and perforating intestine Three surgeries in a week to retrieve it. Two weeks later abscess infection. Was cut open and left to heal for three weeks After that ordeal a total blockage a moth later due to scarring. Had to be re sectioned twice, one that June. 2017 and again this past November. The sweet cost of being thin was expensive medically but worth it I went from 320 at highest to 175. By the way I'm also a redhead Best of luck Steve -

Self-pay in Maryland?
Steven1954 replied to Ready4Change21050's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Switching to a good insurance plan is the best idea It is better to self pay for a year than to self pay for surgery the reason is if you self pay for surgery, insurance will probably not pay for complications I've had several requiring surgery due to scarring and adhesions. Still better being 135 lbs lighter good luck -
Uncontrolled saliva followed by dry heaving are symptoms of partial blockage ive had several Lysis surgeries (cutting away scar tissue) and two major re sections due to dense adhesions and scarring. I've had RNY sept 2016 after 8 yrs with band. Band did lots of damage towards the end now gallbladder stones. Still worth losing 135 lbs See your dr asap many scarring issues do not show up on film. Good luck. Steve

Steven1954 replied to TBodmer71's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Nassau universery medical center has residency in plastics they are in east meadow NY i was getting fungus infections between rolls Insurance denied. Total cost was $3000. I appealed to Nys and they made insurance co reimburse me -
I've. Had band removed February 2016 and rny sept 2016 First came strictures which closed small intestines Five ballon endoscopes to correct. Then came stent to hold open intestines. Stent broke loose and migrated. Three surgeries later problem corrected. For a week then came abscess infection. One month later total blockage. That was most painful. Two months later in June another blockage requiring intestine resection. That was mid June 2017. Now partial blockage. This makes me an expert on blockages😱😱 Bottom line do not ignore symptoms. Which are rolling cramps after eating with excess salvating followed by dry heaving

Anyone else have a sleeve revision to bypass due to complications?
Steven1954 replied to lisylooby's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a band .most doctors will weight a few months between taking out band and doing sleeve or RNY. From sleeve to RNY, some insurance company's require six months of nutrician and all requirements as if it was your first procedure. In my case, Unite health care approved removal of band and RNY the following month. I had tremendous damage to esophagus and upper stomach. I had the band over 8 years and it started killing me I lost and kept off 130 pounds. The day before the removal of the band , they reviewed the file and revoked the approval for the second part (the RNY). As much as I wanted to keep the band as I was thin for the first time in my life, it was nt worth dying over I appealed to United Health Care. They still refused so I appealed to New York State and won. Sleeve to RNY is a single procedure So it is only a matter of getting insurance approval Hopeni answered your question. Best of luck -
Anyone else have a sleeve revision to bypass due to complications?
Steven1954 replied to lisylooby's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ive had surgery by Dr Krichelly and Brezzler at NY Presbyterian. The corrected obstructions and strictures from band to bypass complications . You are in good hands Regarding dumping, you have to get use to portions. I f you eat to much with bypass you get bloating. This happens about ten to twenty minutes after you eat. With the band, you get stuck immediately. With bypass, Your pants get tight. I started to saliva and had dry heaving. since they fixed the problem I've been fine. Dr Krickhely promised to fix problem and delivered. Adhesions are a risk of any surgery. Good luck -

Had a bypass. The first obstruction was due to adhesions. The second in June was due to scarring inside intestines. They snipped both sides and reconnected the ends. So far so good but it's only six weeks. The next month will tell Hopefully it would not scar up again Regards -

Old clothes? What did you do?

As I lost weight I donated clothes. Bought smaller cloths on eBay. You can get designer clothes very cheap and dry clean them. -
Complications: Did you have any?
Steven1954 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the band in 2008. Went from 310 to 175. After six years severe complications began. Feb 2016 needed emergency removal and switch to gastric bypass. Six weeks later i could not drink liquids. Er called it stricture. From 11/2016 had ten ballon endoscopies , a stent which broke lose causing three surgeries, two surgeries for total small bowel obstructions . In the six months since removal of band my weight went from 175 to 235 my weight one year post revision is 157. Rough ride but what in life comes easy I switched hospitals to columbia presbyterian in NYC to finally get it fixed It was worth the rough journey but risk of adhesions is always present -

I havent had dumping. Ive had a few episodes of feeling sick. You have to limit items with high sugar. Like go to no sugar added ice cream (small amount) two forkfuls of anything fattening. You will find if there are foods you know will make you feel sick, you lose your taste for them. Im the only one of my friends that had complications but worked through them good luck -

You have to be careful. If sleeve is not medically necessary. Insurance company can deny coverage for complications
