Sleeping with the Band
ronwifey replied to caramia71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't sleep on my tummy yet either :cursing: Actually haven't tried but my port sticks up a little and I can just imagine that having all my weight on it won't feel to spiffy. I can sleep on my right side good and sometimes wake up and I'm on my left. Hope you find a comfy spot soon. -
Good luck to you guys today! :cursing::thumbup:

ronwifey replied to NOlanebryant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL Your funny. I am very constipated now. I guess all the Protein and Vitamins with Iron are stopping me up. :cursing: I'm going to ask my Dr. if we will change my vitamins to low iron. -

How long were you out of work?
ronwifey replied to heidismiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed home for 3 weeks. I do a lot of physical labor so I went by Dr.'s orders to the Tee when it came to that. The last thing I wanted to do was take any chances. I had to report to hospital at 9:30 am. Had surgery at around 1 I think. Surgery was like 45 minutes long. I was out of recovery and in my room by 4 pm. His patients stay the night and I'm sooo glad I did. I was released at noon the next day. I was on pain meds for about 3 days. Probably could have not taken them the third day but I'm a super wimp and don't like to be in pain if I don't have to be. I'm so excited for your surgery and can't wait to hear all about it! -
Trouble getting time off for surgery?
ronwifey replied to Scarlet Vixen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow..... you are Superwoman. At day 5 I wasn't even able to walk more then 10 minutes at a time. And the movies...no way...The last thing I felt like doing was wearing real clothes and looking desent enough to go in public. As far as rough house with dog.......... nope..... even my little shih tzu was sad she couldn't jump on me. I took off 3 whole weeks and am SOOOO glad I did. I work for USPS and when you come back to work they don't care what you went through or what you can and can't physically do. If you are there then you better be able to do 100%. A woman who had surgery the same day I did thought she could go back at day 7 since she had a desk job and the insicion where her port is opened up a little and she got an infection. YIKES! Everyone is different. -
Trouble getting time off for surgery?
ronwifey replied to Scarlet Vixen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know at my work we have to put in our vacation time like 6 months in advance because only a certain percent of people can be out at one time, that is for vacation not a scheduled surgery though. This surgery is covered under FMLA regardless if insurance covers it or not and it is the LAW that they can't deny you or punish you for FMLA covered sick leave. I went through this with my Tummy Tuck. My boss was like NO WAY! SO I took the professional approach. Got my Dr. to write a small statement like Mrs. So and So is undergoing surgery on such and such date, she will be required to be on complete bed rest for at least 2 weeks. The actual day of surgery I will complete her FMLA paperwork. Short and sweet! Attached the FMLA guide lines and rules and that was all that was said about that. The main thing to remember is that you are going under and it is no different then if someone had to have their appendix out or something. I bet if he needed a surgery he wouldn't think twice about getting it done and as far as telling you to reschedule...... I DON"T THINK SO! Stand firm and don't let him bully you! :cursing: -
not filled yet and eating everything i can.. 2 weeks post OP anyone with same issue??
ronwifey replied to viviananna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI, don't feel bad. Hopefully some banded vets can chime in and give us some words of advice. I've "cheated" too :scared2: and the guilt I feel is worse then ever before. But even when I did cheat it was nothing even close to the crap I ate before I was banded. I guess that helps the guilt a little, LOL I can't wait to get my first fill, I hope my Dr. does it on 4/10 at my next appointment. -
 Great attitude!

When did you take off your steri strips or bandages?
ronwifey replied to Just Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By day 10 mine were off. -
Hi! Welcome to LBT. I know a girl who had the surgery approved by Tricare but don't remember if it was under Prime or Standard, either way I hope the process goes as smoothly for you as it did her. Look forward to hearing about your journey and welcome aboard.

NewTexan going to Dr Alvarez seminar Saturday
ronwifey replied to bard4fun's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, welcome to Lap Band Talk. I'm in San Antonio too. I went to my first seminar 1/19/08 and was banded 3/3/08. The seminar will cover so much info....take notes. Every question I could think of was answered there and I left there 100% sure I wanted to get banded. Where is your seminar at? Mine was at NE Baptist Hospital with Dr. Cavazos. Good luck to you and look forward to hearing about your journey. -
I know poeple aren't going to like what I have to say but it's just my opinion. I really think people give David A. waaaaaaaayyyyyyy to much credit. I think he needs to go but he seems to be a favorite so I bet he'll go far if not win it. He has had so much singing coaching/lessons starting from years ago even before he preformed on Star Search I think he should be better then what he is. He reminds me of someone who sings at DisneyLand. He's *cute*,he would be cuter with Mickey Ears on. LOL! David Cook rocks! Michael Johns did a great performance BUT I hate the faces he makes afterwards, like last night he stuck out his tongue....ewwwww. David Castro.....still not sure about him. Loved the song Kristi sang and think she deserves to be in a little while longer. .........we'll see what happens tonight. Oh and how could I forget: WHAT THE HE** is UP with Paula Abduls wordrobe? I really like her and think she is a beaut but the gloves last night with all the bling...... YIKES!
-
Best of luck to all those getting banded today and tomorrow. You'll do great and can't wait to hear all about it! :sneaky:

That seems really NOT normal. There is nothing sharp enough to actually pierce the skin for any part of it to pop out. The skin would stretch before it pops. Seems very painful as well. I can feel and see my port but no where close to just popping out of the skin. Something dosen't sound right. I hope she really gets this looked at, maybe by a new Dr. :confused2: Good luck.

I just looked on my BCBS online account and it says that the bill for my surgery was $26,075! I thought it was like $12,000. I stayed 1 night in the hospital yes but geez. No wonder self payers go to Mexico! P.S. Had my first follow-up and got to start Protein shakes today...YIPEEE It felt so good to get something with some Vitamins in it. Monday I can eat wet tuna, cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt and decaf unsweet tea ----> all sugar and/or fat free of course. A lady that had surgery the same day I did already lost 22 lbs! Amazing this band is.

Would this be ok for the mushie stage? Couple pieces of pumpkin pie, 6 dollips of whip cream, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, Nothing has to be fat free because it's going in the blender, right?
-
Thanks for the web site link. So cool to see how awful I USED to eat, lol. My favorite meal is from Bennigans but I couldn't find the nutritional value (or lack there of) but I'm sure it's about 20 grams of fat and at least 3000 calories.....drum roll please ........ Monte Cristo! I could eat the whole flippen sandwich. I really miss those.
-
HI fellow March bandsters. So how are you guys doing on the mushie food diet? Me...... not good ..... .....and that says it all. Had a terrible day today  but tomorrow going to get back on track! When I run my hand across my stomach or even look at it I can see my port sticking up, not in full detail but it's def. a bump there...kinda creepy but I'll get used to it. Can you guys? Happy Easter to everyone....
-
I do alot of walking and picking up boxes and stuff so I took 3 weeks off. I can honestly say I needed it. I go back this Monday and I think....I hope it will be ok. I'm just going to be careful.
-
I totally agree... Remiele REALLY gets on my nerves too. I definately thought Carly DID NOT belong in the bottom 3. Instead of Carly it should have been Remiele in her place. I think Kristi should have went home before Amanda though.

Please don't feel bad..... I'm at a stand still too. I just look at it as at least I'm not gaining, LOL :wink2:

Got the date - Yipee!!!
ronwifey replied to pinkdots410's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's great! :wink2: -
Darla~ Thank you so much for taking the time to give us those recipes! They all sound great! Little update on me: I can really feel where my port is and right where it is, it's red on my skin. I go back to work Monday so I hope it's not an infection starting up  It's not hot or anyting and not to bright so I hope nothing. All of 3/3 er's are doing so good with our weight loss! YEAH US!
-
HI everyone, glad to hear all the 3/3 er's are doing well. I'm good. Feel a lot better that I can have mushie type food. I look forward to my 1st fill now though. I know what you mean about feeling "empty". I go back to work Monday 3/24 and I'm so glad. I have bad case of cabin fever. But I am nervous to go back and thinking I am ok lift something heavy up and do some damage. I will def. listen to my body! I lost 18 pounds since surgery so I'm excited for that. All my steri-strips came off finally, Thank God! I can really feel my port under my biggest incision on my left side now, kinda weird but dosen't hurt just still tender. Take care....
