first bite syndrome "cures?"
ShrinkyDink replied to GBear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have that problem if I eat too soon after I get up. It seems if I move around for half an hour or so first things "loosen up" for lack of a better term and I don't have any trouble. -
overnight stay or not
ShrinkyDink replied to wvgal33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If someone insists on leaving the hospital driving themself the hospital of course can't physically stop them, but they will discharge them AMA, which means against medical advice. It's the only way the hospital can protect themselves from liability if that person has a wreck on the way home. And with that on the chart, insurance is likely to deny the claim and the person will be stuck with an enormous bill. Driving yourself that soon after surgery is not an option, it's dangerous to yourself and to others on the road. Not trying to preach, just telling you what could happen, it's a serious issue. I was a same day procedure and was home by noon after 8am surgery. I didn't want to stay overnight but I wish they had let me stay a couple more hours so I could sleep off the anesthesia a little more, I was very dizzy and miserable for my first couple hours home. -

I sip on diet coke from time to time now, but giving it up for those first few weeks preop broke my addiction to it. I don't buy it for home, I only have it in restaurants and I drink maybe 3-4 ounces before my meal and a few tiny sips during. -
Talk about your crummy days...
ShrinkyDink replied to ShrinkyDink's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yup, two days later and I'm still trying to get rid of all that barium, my gut is rumbling nonstop and I can't button my jeans. I ate next to nothing yesterday cause I'm still so blah. -
Thursday when I saw my doctor he suspected that I might have a hernia at the spot where the tubing comes through the muscle, he sent me for a CT scan and said to get it done as soon as I could. I called the place right away and took their next available spot, 4:00 friday afternoon. Friday I had half a Breakfast sandwich and 8 ounces of Water at 7:45 then had to have nothing after that, including water, to prepare for this test. At 2:00 I had an hour and a half to drink two big containers of barium. By the time I finished I felt like I was full up to my throat and I was so bloated I thought I'd explode. When I got to the place, they said they hadn't heard back on preauthorization from my insurance, so I had to reschedule. I spent the rest of the day still so full and bloated I couldn't even drink until about 8:00. And now when they reschedule me, I have to do it again, blah! The bright side is, I lost a pound!

A restaurant choosing not to offer special orders is their choice. Rudeness like that from an employee is way out of line, asking shouldn't be a problem. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Eating to soon after surgery ???
ShrinkyDink replied to HippieMamax2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does he know you are breastfeeding? Maybe he would at least allow you protein shakes, neither you nor the baby is getting enough nutrition on clear liquids, I'd call him and discuss it with him. If he insists you stay on clear liquids the baby will need formula until you are able to eat again. Think about yourself also, if you aren't taking in enough calcium your bodies leeches it from your bones to make breast milk and every bit of protein/nutrition you are taking in will be going to the milk. -
weight: 250, down 1 pound from last week exercise: 20-30 minutes in the pool 7 times, weather warmed up the water again, bought me a couple more weeks maybe. eating: controlled portions of regular food, lean cuisines

I went in yesterday for my first fill. I was surprised to hear he had put in 4.5cc at surgery time! I've been feeling full on much less food but I haven't had any trouble with any type of food except one bite of chicken that was stuck very briefly. Seems like I should have felt more restriction with that much already in there. She put in another 1cc (10cc band) so after I finish the two days of liquids we'll see if it makes any difference or not, I really need this to kick in, I'm getting very frustrated with my slow weight loss. It was much more of an ordeal than I expected, she said I already have a lot of scar tissue built up around the port so she had some trouble hitting it, I was very glad I was numbed up cause she was really poking around and I felt a lot of pressure. I was a little sore after the lidocaine wore off, but not too bad.

Had my second fill today, she bumped me up to 6.2cc and it was so much easier this time. She didn't need the long needle this time, I'm telling myself it's cause there's less fat there, but it's probably cause the swelling is gone. From the time she cleaned the spot til the time it was done was about 2 minutes! I asked about the tubing, she said the tubing on my band (APS) only holds about .5cc at the most which surprised me, that means I had 4cc in the band for that first month when I felt no restriction at all. I saw the doctor also (the PA does my fills) and he's concerned that this odd fluid pocket where they tunneled the tubing through the muscle is still there and still causing a pressure feeling sometimes. Coupled with the shoulder pain I'm getting from time to time he's concerned now that it could be a hernia, I'm going for a CT scan tomorrow. Fingers crossed and lots of prayers going up that it's not!

Bitter taste in my mouth (literally)
ShrinkyDink replied to SkinnyKathy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the very same thing happen, everything tasted bitter to me for the first few days after I advanced to mushies. I never knew what it was but it did go away after a week or so. -

They taste like too strong koolaid to me, kind of overly sweet and thick but not bad. The 45 gram type are from GNC, but WalMart has a type with 23 grams. Those from GNC are more expensive than the WalMart ones, but if you're only going to drink half of it at a time they are cheaper per dose. And I did read somewhere that the body can only absorb about 20 grams at a time, haven't asked my doctor about it though. -
Gosh I hadn't thought about how much was in the tubing, I'm going for my second fill this thursday, I'll ask. That makes me feel better if a lot of that 4.5cc was in the tubing, I was wondering why I felt so little restriction.

Do you have photos? I wish I'd found this yesterday, I just carted a lot of size 26/28 to Goodwill this morning. I now have about 1/3 of my clothes remaining! -
I had a LOT of pain those first few days, but I still slept in my bed cause I can't sleep propped up. Getting up and getting down was hard and I needed help with it for the first day, but being in the lying down position didn't hurt. About the stairs, when I first got home I was still dizzy from the anesthesia and wasn't up to the stairs right away, but after resting for about 3-4 hours and getting it all out of my system I managed them just fine.

As of this morning my BMI is 39.9, goodbye morbidly obese!

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I hadn't heard of any controversy, could somebody point me to where I can read it please? I use these when the day is coming to an end and I'm short on protein, had no idea there was any reason not to. -
Not gonna get into the argument, we all know what is honest and what is not and we have to live with our own choices, but I had to speak up on this part because it's dangerous. You should never take more than the recommended dosage of a medicine, being over the counter doesn't make it ok to overdose on it. And you should never take a medicine and not report it to the people doing the sleep study.

My pool has already dropped to 76 degrees and I just can't stand to get in it anymore, it's painful that cold! I was hoping to use it for at least another month before the water got too cold. I'd like to buy a short wetsuit so I can keep swimming but I can't find plus sized wetsuits on the internet. I don't really want to wear a men's suit cause it would be too big around the shoulders and probably still too small around the hips. I'm kind of embarrassed to go to a sporting goods store and try them on, they ain't exactly easy to slip into, and can you imagine the salesperson's face when somebody my size asks for a wetsuit? Anybody know of a website that sells them for us fluffy ladies?

Do they make wetsuits for fat ladies?
ShrinkyDink replied to ShrinkyDink's topic in Fitness & Exercise
awesome, thanks guys! off to check out those sites  *back to edit* I was so excited, that Siren site has big sizes, but the heaviest suit they have is only recommended down to 75 degrees, my Water is already there and dropping. Gonna call the other place tomorrow -
Questions For The Newly Banded

I like the Atkins shakes, they are thinner and don't cause that gooby stick in your throat feeling that Slim Fast does. The milk chocolate flavor tastes almost exactly like chocolate milk to me. -
Thanks guys, two more pounds and the person I'm carrying around on my back will be less than 100 pounds! She's getting skinny!
