Just keep sipping!

I've heard it could be sutures inside that have been absorbed (as they are supposed to) and your organs may shift slightly. Hopefully just part of the healing process and will get better soon. Of course I'm not a doctor...good luck with everything!

Not to scare anyone, I just want to report on my recent complication from surgery. I am 7 months post op from duodenal switch. I've had no complications until two weeks ago. I felt a little ill one afternoon, minor stomach pain. I attributed it to acid or gas. I then ate dinner and immediately became violently ill. Severe abdominal pain and nausea. So bad my husband took me to the ER. I started vomiting and I needed pain medicine. A CT scan shoed some kind of blockage. They admitted me and my bariatric surgeon met with me in the morning. He said a had at least a partial blockage in the small intestine. He operated laproscopically that afternoon. I also needed an umbilical hernia repair (he had done one when he did my DS but it didn't hold, this time he used mesh). I spent another night in the hospital. I was sent home with pain meds and I was in worse pain than the DS surgery or my c-section. But it is two weeks later and I'm mostly healed. I think the hernia surgery was 90% of my pain. The blockage was easily fixed with surgery. I'm still thrilled with my DS, I've lost 135 lbs. But I wanted to share in case anyone else had similar symptoms. Know that you could have a serious problem if you're feeling really ill, so please call your doctor or go to the ER. Also know that you can have a pretty quick recovery and get back to normal soon Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

I had the DS on 6/22/16 and just wanted to share my progress. I started the preop diet on 6/8/16, so here is my pic 20 weeks later! If anyone is considering the DS or any other surgery, I hope this inspires, since others progress pictures really helped me stay motivated.

Endoscopy & NSAIDS

Be sure to tell the doctor. But my husband was supposed to stop his Plavix and forgot. He told his medical team, and they said it was not a big deal, just make sure to tell them, as your team might say differently. -
Make sure you're on the list (if they keep one) to call if there is a cancelation. I got in earlier than my appointment that way. I think these places have a good amount of cancelations, because I was called twice in three days (the first time didn't work out for me.)

Do You Take Caffeine after Weight Loss Surgery?
Loudy227 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I cut out caffeine (coffee) during my 2 week liquid preop diet. I waited about three weeks to start half caff. Now I'm three months out and I enjoy 1-3 coffees a day. No soda. The only thing is I drink lighter ground, nothing bold or it does hurt my tummy, though that was true before surgery, because I have Gerd. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -

Two tickets on plane?
Loudy227 replied to Chloewithac's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My husband and I traveled Southwest about five times and purchased an extra seat and we always got our refund, though you do have to request it. You also get to pre-board which is great since they have open seating. -

BC/BS Why are people paying out of pocket ?
Loudy227 replied to Tanette's topic in Insurance & Financing
My friend had only one month left of 6 month diet and her UHC insurance said she could not have her surgery with her chosen facility and surgeon because they moved longer had it as a center of excellence. Now she has been denied for not having high enough bmi over the last five years. I have bcbsnc and had no issues, but my friend might have to go the self pay route. -

HELP! What did you ask your surgeon?
Loudy227 replied to hernewselfie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I asked my surgeon how many bariatric surgeries he does. (Six a week was the answer). And how many of each type of surgery. I had the duodenal switch, so I wanted an experienced surgeon for that particular surgery. I read that you might take it as a warning sign if your surgeon is offended by that question. Mine was totally comfortable. Also ask, if it's relevant to your, which surgery will help diabetes or other health conditions you might have. I went in asking for a RNY, and my surgeon said the DS surgery has a better outcome for diabetics and those looking to lose more than 70% of their excess weight. The gastric sleeve might not be best for those with severe GERD. I believe that gastric sleeve is the most popular surgery and there's been a lot of success with it. Good luck on your journey! My favorite in the soft foods phase, about 4 weeks out, was fat free refried beans, salsa, ground turkey meat made with Mexican spice and diced onion, a bit of cheese and sour cream. All in tiny amounts, of course. My NUT said tomatoes are a good first raw food to try if you want.

So much acid. Not sleeping.

Many different meds to try. I take omeprazole (Prilosec) and it works for me, but my husband needs omeprazole bicarbonate (Zegerid). Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
Enormous Weight Loss: Just the Tip of the Iceberg.
Loudy227 replied to Cervidae's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your post reminds me of why I don't want to keep a pair of my "fattest" pants. To me if someday I put both legs in one pant leg to show off my weight loss it would be like making fun of my former self. That's just my take on it. My fattest self was still deserving of respect and love. I've endured many of those type of statements as all of you probably have in the past. I used to tell my father about how I'd lost 50 lbs. on a diet and he would always respond with, "well, you know what to do... (stop eating, of course.) I'd feel completely deflated. Like it was so easy to lose weight I must be really stupid, lazy, etc. We have to accept that most people who have never been obese are ignorant of our plight. How our bodies fight to regain weight. How our brains are obsessed with food even while we would do anything just to stop overeating. It's a complicated problem that no one, doctors and scientists included, really understands. As one who was bullied and tormented in school for being fat, I've never understood what was so funny about my obesity or why it brings out the worst in some people. Moved up a stage early by Doc. Question

I had the same situation. My moving up day changed too. Just because you had one stage shortened, don't shorten the next stage. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
