    Couples

I had my surgery 6/22/16 and my husband is scheduled for this Monday. We left some time for me to fulky recover, but we are going through this together, same surgery (DS) and surgeon. I originally had come to the decision, but he immediately said he should do it too. I just made it clear that he had to make his own decision for himself, not to make it easier for me or that it would be easier if we both did the same diet/surgery. I think it would be extremely hard on us if only one of us did this, however. We are both looking forward to our new selves and planning trips for the next few years. Disney World, the Bahamas, and more.

I got a cold four days after surgery. I was miserable for over a week. Thankfully when I recovered I got my energy back. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

  7. I'd say exercise is the best way to prep. It's easier to have a base level of fitness before surgery. Recovery should be quicker, too. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

50 lbs. down in 8 weeks!

I had the duodenal switch. Where I had my surgery, Rex at Raleigh NC, the surgeons are really recommending the DS because of the larger weight loss success than other surgeries. Everyone who seemed to have bmi 40+ that I talked to at my nutrition class was getting the DS. If anyone has the choice to get it, I highly recommend researching it.

  11. Hi, has anyone gone to Rex Hospital for bypass surgery? I was considering Duke, but they're not in my network. Also anyone have BCBSNC? How soon did you get your surgery after yout first appt?

    Mushy/soft foods

Unfortunately, I found that protein shakes were giving me the runs. It is harder to get all my protein in, but I think my body just can't process whey protein isolate. Dairy does not seem to have the same effect, weird.
  14. Thanks, Alex, I had been thinking about the same ideas this past week. It especially makes my blood boil when someone responds to a post with "well if you're thinking of doing that then I question your commitment to weight loss." I think it is really not a helpful response. You don't have enough information to make that call. I'm sure it is not too difficult to get your point across without suggesting someone is destined to be a weight loss failure.

@@Djmohr How are you doing after surgery? After the WLS itself which I've had, the arm lift is what I want most! I have always had large arms even in middle school. I have lost over 100 lbs. in the past and myarms always kept me from wearing smaller size tops. How long have you been at/near goal wright?
  17. My NUT said sashimi was fine for soft foods phase, but no rice. Sticky rice especially is off limits for 3-6 months. I hope to avoid rice for life as much as possible for weight control. I'm at 4 weeks post op and on soft foods. I've pulled the fish off the tops of nigiri and dismantled some cali rolls to get the crab and avocado out. It was great having wasabi again. It all went down fine.

    Cream of chicken soup

It wasnt on my preop diet because of too many carbs, but its allowed on post op full liquid, according to my plan.
  21. Loudy227

    Whennnnnn

I lost 16 lbs. In the preop diet. Came home and weighed on day 3 and was up .8 lbs. Day 4 was down 2.2 lbs. from surgery day. Buuuuuut, I have had liquid bowel movements (I know, gross) since day 2, several times a day, as I did through the preop diet. So the Fluid from surgery is moving out quickly, so I'm lucky??? Day 2 after surgery..

I'm on day three after surgery today. Today is a lot better than yesterday as far as getting liquids down. I'm just kind of accepting the fact that my belly is sore and feels full but I need to keep getting my liquids in. I also did a two week preop liquid diet and first two days postop were Clear Liquids followed by two weeks full liquids. There will be plenty of time to try new foods later, but now is the time for healing. There's a lot I can try on full liquids, shakes with different added flavors, strained Soups, yogurt, veggie juice, pudding. It will be six weeks before I can have "regular" food, so I'm staying positive because I'm in this for the long haul. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    June DS

Anyone else have a June surgery date? Mine's the 22nd. I started the process Feb 17. I would like to go from 340 to 160, I'm 5'6" and 43 yrs old.

    June DS

Just got home from the hospital (2 nights). On clear liquids then full liquids tomorrow, protein shakes, pudding, etc. Seven incisions (had to fix an umbillical hernia, too.) Feeling pretty good, walking really well. Pain in my stomach from bloating and pressure. Surgery was 3 hrs. No complications. Trying to drink slowly.
  25. Yum! Can I come to your sleepover!
