I have been overweight all my life, and my doctors over the years would say you need to lose weight but never give me anything beyond that statement. In December of 2007 I was referred to a Cardiologist due to a heart condition that had flared back up again and when he sat down and talked with me he asked about my weight and what all I had tried and things like that and I told him probably every diet you could think of and that most of my doctors had only said you need to lose weight but never any suggestions. I could lose the weight but I could never keep it off. He said he wanted to reccommend me for lap band surgery and asked what I knew about it which at that point wasnt a whole lot. I met with the surgeon he referred me to but could not afford his program fee and in June while doing the 6 month diet require for my insurance I started looking for another doctor and had an appointment with Dr. Lisa Martin-Hawver of UC Physicians in Cincinnati that following week. She went over everything with me and I almost immediately felt comfortable with her which was important, and I switched to their program at that point to finish getting everything lined up to send to insurance and on my birthday last year they called and told me I was approved for surgery and scheduled me for October 23, 2008. I don't regret having the surgery though I have not lost as much as I would have liked to so far, it has also been a very rough 2009 for me so far so all things considered I am happy with my progress.
