I recently went in for blood work in preparation for my 6 month post GB appt. The results came back normal except my Vitamin D and B12 values are very high - higher than the recommended levels. This surprises me because I thought after a gastric bypass I would have trouble absorbing. I have been on Vitamin D supplements for years and have always had a lower than normal level. I have never taken a B12 supplement but do take my bariatric Multivitamin. I had a note to stop taking the vitamin D immediately. Is this normal?

I'm the same height and small frame. I was told I would only get to 170. I just ignored them. When I hit a normal BMI I was told I was one of a handful who had done so. I was also told not to lose anymore but am hoping to get to 135. Like you I want to see what it feels like but may adjust it up or down depending on how it feels. Hang in there and trust your body.

I had the gastric bypass in June of 2016 and I have no problems eating out. As far as capacity it depends on what you are eating. You will be able to eat a lot more of applesauce than beef for example. For the first few months eating out with others made me self conscious because of how little I would eat. Now that I can eat more, I don't think any one notices my portions. I take a box home and get one or two extra meals out of it which is a bonus.

Why will this be different? number two!

I would not count on losing your hunger. I never did. The restriction helps for sure, at least for the first six months. I can eat a lot more at 8 months post rny. Dumping has not been a problem/solution for me. I am struggling now to lose my last 30 pounds. What helps is that I look better which is motivating and exercise is easier without the extra weight. As far as the surgery everything went smoothly and I have no regrets. If you decide to have surgery my advice would be to use those first six months to develop a habit of exercising and work with a therapist on why you turned to food in the first place and to learn better coping methods. -
I love spicy food and had salsa etc early on, as soon as it was allowed. I have not had any issues with it.

Natural Hair and Bariatric Surgery

As I posted on another thread I have not noticed any hair loss at 7 months out. I did have really thin hair to begin with and was so worried about it I purchased a wig before surgery. I took biotin for about six months before surgery and have continued with it post surgery. I have been super careful about getting enough fat, protein and water each day which may have helped. I have not noticed any changes to my hair texture. -
Discussing Post-Op worries relayed to the patient by patient's parents

I had a gastric bypass in June. The only time I have vomited was when I tried to eat scrambled eggs a few months out. I might be able to eat them now but the memory stops me. Other than that I seem to be able to eat anything. I would think vomiting frequently is very abnormal but of course check with your Dr/Dietician. -
How are you eating at 7 months out ?

I make "tacos" all the time. I just skip the taco shell and have the shredded beef, low fat black refried beans with cheese and salsa on top -

Before surgery I cut out sugar and caffeine and started taking Biotin and increasing Protein. What I wish I had done more of is exercising/building muscle strength, practiced eating slowly, and made a list of things I wanted to do when I lost weight (instead of getting rid of negative aspects of being overweight). As mentioned taking pictures and measurements can be very motivating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I didn't have that fear- in fact it didn't occur to me but I have been surprised about the changes in my face. I'm certainly recognizable but I have more wrinkles now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Weight Loss Surgery is Not the Solution
j16 replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Good points. I have been realizing lately I'm still obsessed with food - it has just changed from what tastes good to what has enough Protein or hardly any carbs. I'm trying to build a life for myself outside of food and constantly thinking about my weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Losing weight quickly before surgery
j16 replied to Newlife2017's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 21 pounds in the three weeks before surgery. I did it by following the liver shrinking diet my doctor gave me for 19 days which allowed only 20 net carbs a day of any food I wanted and then a two day liquid diet. The nice thing about losing weight before surgery is that you don't gain it back. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

This is so amusing. I found this lump a while back and asked my husband to feel it and he was like - ya it's your rib . . . I'm having to get used to actually feeling my bones. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
