Hello. Hang in here. I am 8 mys out and I been through hell and have had a lot of complications. Had to have a second Surgury 1 month later and than 3 times dilation and now I have a TPN and a picc line. This is normal. Your hormones are not where they should me. There is a hormonal imbalance due to the shock your body went through. It will get better within a month or so. When you start feeling this way find a friend or family member that is understanding or husband , boyfriend, someone you can talk to and cry if you have to. It will get better. You will notice as time goes by that this was the best decision you have made but it will take time. Trust me I went through severe depression and sometimes I break down especially now that I have to be on TPN. Stay focus and busy and do things you like or find something you can keep your mind busy. You will be ok.

Thanks for responding. I need to get ideas or recipes so I can start eating right. I am on TPN but they want me to start trying to eat to see if I don't vomit as often to remove the TPN treatment. My problem was I was hardly having any protein a day. I mean hardly and wasn't eating right. -
So sorry you going through all of this. Have they done any testing to see if you have a blockage? That happen to me. R you able to tolerate anything solid?

Questions about your forever diet after surgery
asantiago replied to bostonmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello Djmohr, What kind of protein and vegetables do you eat? Is it true that it's better to eat cooked vegetables than fresh vegetables or salads? My surgeon told me to stay away from salad and raw vegetables and I am 10 month out. -

Hello James, Thank you so much for sharing that information. It was very informative and you look great. It has been 10 months for me since I had gastric bypass and have many challenges. I am definitely going to keep this maintain a phase in mind. I am in my goal weight due to TPN that I receive because before I was underweight due to all my complications. I have gained a few pounds but I am where I am suppose to me. I still having problems keeping food down most of the time. I wonder if I am doing something wrong. -

Hello so sorry you feeling this way. I had gastric bypass in Decemeber 2015. A month later had a bowel obstruction and been dilated 3 times and may require a major 3rd Surgury. I also have a picc line and been on it since July 7, 2016. I get TPN every evening after work for 12 hours. I haven't been able to keep food down and I vomit a lot. I do have few days I am ok but it's not easy. My advice to you is to please chew chew chew your food and early slowly. You will get better. Don't give up. I been hospitalize 6 times since December and it's been stressful but being positive will help you. It's normal for you to regret the Surgury because I also felt the same way but trust me you did the right thing. This is temporary. You will get better. Try to avoid meats and corn and high fiber food , salads for now. Stay on soft foods, protein shakes, oatmeal, yogurt, carnation instant breakfast, chicken , cooked vegetables, soups. This is what I was told by the nutritionist. You Amy want to see one also. If you need any other suggestions or have questions, please feel free to ask.

Hello James Thank you for this great information you provided. I haven't been tested for anything like H pylori or ulcer. I will be seeing the surgeon this Tuesday and will ask him tons of questions I have for him. I am scared and part of me do not want to have Surgury again. Today for breakfast I was able to eat a few bites without visiting. What is the most you eat per meal like ounces ? I am so confused about how much to expect to eat per meal and how long should it take to finish a meal. I need to keep in mind not to eat to fast and chew.

Hello everyone, I am 8 month post op since my gastric bypass Surgury I had in Dec 2015. I been very depress because after my gastric bypass I had to have a second Surgury a month later due to a bowel obstruction. After that I have been dilated 3 times having a endoscopy and dilation. I haven't been able to keep food down. It's rare when I can eat without vomiting. I just saw my gastro Doctor and she stated that she can't dilated me because it's like she is starting from the beginning. It closes up. She spoke to my surgeon and he said no more dilation. He wants to see me this Tuesday to discuss a possible 3rd Surgury. I have a picc line due to not having enough Vitamins and I get tpn every day for 12hrs. My albumin level was dangerously low and reason I had to get TPN iv. I am nervous about having Surgury. At times when I vomit it smells like feces. A few month ago my surgeon said he could not jeopardize doing Surgury since too weak and he wanted to build me up strong before since Surgury is 7 hrs long. The doctor states he would have to undo the bypass and re attach and cut an area where scar tissue keeps narrowing and can be reason why food doesn't stay down. Does anyone have any suggestion? I don't want to depend on TPN and want to be able to have a normal life and eat without vomiting. I know at times I forget to eat slow and chew. I want to avoid Surgury but Will see what surgeon tells me on Tuesday. Anyone have any similar issues? Suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello Djmohr Thank you for replying to my post. Yes this is the same surgeon who did both operations. He works where I work and he is the chief of bariatric and General Surgury. I went to a second opinion and they told me everything was done correctly. The surgeon is saying that I develop scar tissue and there is a area just where the food passes through intestine that needs to be cut out (scar tissue) . His plan is to undo the bypass and do the bypass all over again and cut the scar tissue. I will know more this Tuesday coming up when I meet with him. This is so scary for me because o seem not to be getting better. The most I can eat if I don't vomit is about a few bites and that I get that feeling like food is sitting there and here all kinds of noises in my stomach.

Congratulations! Wish you the best. You will do great and best advise is to do exactly as your surgeon tells you. Drinking water is extremely important. Try your best staying hydrated. What helps me stay on track is writing on my journal. Being positive and looking forward to your new you will be rewarding.

How long after surgery did you feel like yourself again?
asantiago replied to cocoa8utter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello . I had gastric bypass Dec 14th and was scared and at some point felt regret but I also was facing similiar situation with acid and throwing up at night that one night I almost die and choked on my throw up and was rushed to hospital. I know feeling a lot being weak. I am still facing that answering to drink water. Please stay hydrated as much as you can. I ended up in hospital for 6 days due to not drinking enough water. I find that pouring water in one of the medicine cups they give you at hospital every 30 min which is a total of 30cc is easier to drink more. They sell the medicine cups in any pharmacy. I also notice that ice cold water works best for me. I wish you the best and full recovery. If you can try to walk around the block at least once , that will strengthen you. I been slacking but I try to do my best. Please keep letting me know your progress. . ????. You will get better and better each day. I just started getting better a few days ago. I hope each day gets easier for both of us. -

Thank you for your reply. Monday I am seeing doctor because the Nurse practionior I been seeing told me to start on stage 4 low fat solids And I agree with you. I notice when eating baby foods or like chicken broth soup I didn't throw up as much And yesterday had some chicken and this morning I could not stop being so sick and felt like I was going to die. I really appreciate the info. Yesterday it was once month for me. Solid is not working. Today no solid. I had some premier protein shake but could only drink a little. Little nausea. Do you recommend any other protein? I been sipping on water and had sugar free ice pop since mouth and lips are little dry. So far I haven't thrown up since early morning. Have my fingers cross. I really thank you for all info you have given me. I am so scared but trying to be positive at same time. How long did it take you to get better? -

Thank for the info. Yes I want to make this journey successful and want to be healthier. I tried so many diets even weight watchers and it worked for few pounds but I over ate when I got anxious and also love sweets. The reflux and being overweight didn't make it easier. I just have to take it day by day. I am glad you taking care of yourself. I believe being around positive people also helps a lot. -

Thank you for replying. Yes so true. I keep sipping water from the Poland sports bottle but I may have to add some crystal light for some flavor to see if I can drink more. Is it normal to feel gurgling sounds like hunger even when drinking fluids? I have all these weird noises. -

Yesterday I started stage 4 and guess what? Early this morning I threw up about 6 times and not sure what is going on! Anyone else with this issue. I am very scared and I need to go back to work soon. My legs feel weak. I have no blockage from what I know but I hate this feeling!
