Question about first week post Surgery
Lord Nikon replied to Lord Nikon's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I’m two years out and I can drink lite beer. I don’t care for beer, never have liked it much but I can drink it. I can also drink carbonated drinks, my surgeon was fine with it, but I wasn’t allowed to drink any carbonation until a year was past. I drink Coke Zero as a treat when I go out, doesn’t bother me at all and doesn’t expand your stomach at all. Everyone is different and every doctor is different I guess so you’re right. -
Question about first week post Surgery
Lord Nikon posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
So I've had my gastric sleeve surgery here in the States, and now its my wife's turn as she is going to TJ to get her surgery. Which is cool with me, its all we can afford.. and frankly I wish I found out about this when it was my chance.. so much cheaper. Anyhow.... We finally got all the information from the plan and what makes zero sense to me, is the first week, she can't drink protein? She's supposed to survive on clear liquids only? Like Crystal light and sugar free Gatorade? I find this weird, as after my surgery (and various others in my friends circle who had the exact same surgery) all were drinking Premier Protein or some other form of protein day 2. I remember myself struggling to drink a small shot glass of Protein like every so often during the day. I remember the nurse at the hospital telling me and my wife, "Make sure he drinks a (shows shot glass thing) of protein and follow the paperwork about what's allowed. See your surgeon in a week for a follow up". Can anyone confirm this who's went through this? We are concerned about this. thanks! -
Question about first week post Surgery
Lord Nikon replied to Lord Nikon's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Good replies here and thanks for everyone telling me their experiences with the surgery. I guess I will have to go with what @Matt Z said and everyone's experience is different. I just found it odd that everyone that's had surgery here, including myself was drinking protein (such premiere protein) the very same day or the next day after surgery and everyone from TJ/Mex are all told they shouldn't be drinking them, but using clear proteins. Also we do plan on asking these very questions, but wanted to ask here because the coordinator who is setting up this whole thing only said, "I don't know, just do what the paperwork says" -- Sorry I don't find that acceptable and while I get it, she's a coordinator, she can address it better or say "let me find out" or even, "I am not sure, but please bring this up with your surgeon". thanks everyone! -
Question about first week post Surgery
Lord Nikon replied to Lord Nikon's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Okay. Clear proteins.. got it.. but why isn’t regular liquid proteins allowed. I was able to have it as well as my friends (all different surgeons as well). Is it the special procedure they use in TJ that’s different then in the states? -
NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
Lord Nikon replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
so this topic after 12 pages, basically shows us that: 1) everyone has their opinion (right or wrong) 2) some people drink diet/carbonated drinks with no issues 3) some people have issues drinking it. 4) people will sometimes fight about it. 5) most are really set in their ways and no one will convince them otherwise I think we've seen enough and heard enough about it. It really should be locked, but since its not, I will just turn off notifications. -
NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
Lord Nikon replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Yep. Need to debunk the legend. It's okay to drink diet or zero calorie (just carbonated water) in moderation. As always drunk your water or your flavored drinks first and maybe save the diet soda as a treat. It's what I do. Once a week, when we have company over, on game night. I'll enjoy some Coke Zero over ice. It's a nice treat. The Surgery is a tool, not the answer. It's there to help you learn moderation and how to live a healthier life style. -

NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!
Lord Nikon replied to Lexington1020's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I am 18 months since my surgery and I drink coke zero or diet soda when I get together with my friends on the weekends and we play games. I normally open it, pour it over ice and wait about 5 minutes before drinking it. Nothing wrong with it. Moderation and not during eating.. 30 minutes before or after. -
Lifting weights hardcore, high intensity? Post Surgery
Lord Nikon replied to Kyle Lukas's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I've been lifting weights since Jan of this year. I didn't bother with it and only did cardio, and then my surgeon was like, "JUST GET IT DONE NOW" so I went to the gym with a buddy, and he set me up with a small program, 3 times a week. I've seen results, but sadly I have a lot of hanging skin, so muscle is not as noticeable as I'd like. -
Amen Glad to see we are in the same boat. Stay in touch, since we are close in date/time for things ????

Before my surgery I was 439 and then I went on liquid 2 week diet dropped to 419...So I had my surgery on Dec 31st and was at 419.. Then I was down to 398.. And now I've stalled for 3 weeks now. I've also had a hard time pooping. So I take a daily Fiber powder in my Water.. I check today and I've gained just about 3 lbs. my doc says don't worry it's normal.. I walk about 5 miles a day for exercise through out the day.. I drink about 70 oz of water.. Nothing else. I eat about 800 to 1100 calories as I was told. The only thing I can't eat until next week is white breads and Pasta.. And nuts. Sigh okay done crying. I know I know it happens.. I've read tons of posts here. So.. Okay. I'm done.

Wwboy. I hear you. I am past 3 weeks and I skipped my weigh in on 4th week.. I am waiting to next Wednesday. My surgeon suggested I weigh myself on weds.. She said it's a better judge.

2 weeks out and only lost 10 pounds
Lord Nikon replied to ad5707's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on 12/31.. I've lost about 20 lbs to this date, I've hit a 3 week stall. so.. from what I am reading.. it happens.. sucks.. but it happens. -
Thanks for the advice. I may do this, I've always enjoyed a low carb diet, but not as restrictive as say Atkins, but keeping it under 50 carbs.. I am going to up my Protein and suck down more Water.. Keep carbs to a low level.

Hmm I will have to look. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks. I realize all that, but these forums are here for people who need that quick reassurance or a place to talk when the face to face or in person group isn't meeting at the exact moment.

Thanks for the reassuring words FrankiesGirl. Not worried about Pasta or bread -- just mentioned those things in case someone was curious. I don't plan on eating them for now. Today I ending my day with 1200 calories.. 80g Protein... My fitness pal was showing I burned 1500 calories from close to 5 miles of waking (around 11000 steps) -- which I do realize is not 100% correct, and steps are off a bit in sure with a Fitbit even with it on dominant wrist.

Sometimes people like to ask the question to help them feel better and have someone reassure them personally then rather read something from another person.

So just got my surgery and I am about at week 3. My surgeon had me stop all medication after the surgery, including diabetic medication. The first two weeks my blood sugar was low, like mid 70 all the time. Suddenly I am noticing it rising again, Its like been mid 80s and today it was 103. I am thinking I need to take it again. I am kind of bummed out, I was hoping I wouldn't need to take the darn pills anymore.. Looks like I'll need to crush it and choke it down - LN

Blood Sugar Levels - Diabetes Questions
Lord Nikon replied to Lord Nikon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well the swelling was a common issue before I started the meds and after taking the meds it basically went away. My doctor had me have my legs checked, I don't have any blockages or anything, just poor circulation in them. When the swelling went down, he told me that happens and a lot of doctors put people on a very low dose of Metformin to help with swelling in their legs. Edit: sorry forgot to add, I can walk fine, I am back up to about 2 to 3 miles a day of walking with no issues. -
Blood Sugar Levels - Diabetes Questions
Lord Nikon replied to Lord Nikon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@loriemoms Thanks for the encouraging words, Amazing how you've done! I know 103 is norm, in fact my sugar levels on meds never went above 130. When I got the meds, my A1C was almost 9, but since I went on a diet and stopped stuffing down sugars (months before my surgery) it dropped down to 5.7. Why I am concerned? Well, the rise in numbers and my legs are starting to swell up (again). -
@@1Cor2:9 I am about at the same point as you and my weight loss has come to a creeping halt, but after reading the forums here, I feel a bit better if I keep plugging away and following the process it will pass.

400+ pounds?
Lord Nikon replied to shannonlarson209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is another one for you. I started at 449, went on the liquird pre-op diet, dropped down to 419 the day I had the sleeve and now I am at 402.. so in less then 30 days I lost almost 50 pounds. -
Wow, I don't know why you were in that long, but I am cheering that you get to go home. I know myself, the one day I was in the hospital, I didn't care for, so 5 weeks.. Yep, happy is the way i'd be!
