My physician told me no gummies at all. In the beginning they can get "stuck" and after that they don't absorb well so you're really not getting all you need to get.

How do you dwal with head hunger?
brindall replied to MozzaWehsha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out and I have episodes of it, though not all the time. I just listen to my stomach and realize I'm not really hungry and tell myself that. I also stay out of the kitchen until it passes. And it does pass! -
Post-op blood work and lower liver function?
brindall replied to BlueBongo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My liver function tests went down too after surgery. I was surprised and thought it was a fluke because it was kind of soon but I guess not after reading this post! -
How soon can you get strictures? I keep feeling like food either isn't going down or just sitting there. I haven't vomited though. I've tried papaya enzyme and that doesn't seem to help. I do get very nauseated with it. Any one have strictures early on? I'm about 1 1/2 month post op

Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery is one I have as well and I like it.

I had the bypass done for several reasons. The biggest one was for the diabetes. Bypass is the only surgical procedure that can be considered a cure for diabetes versus a control. Secondly the acid reflux which was a huge problem for me and it's now gone. Third it has a better long term success rate than the sleeve. There were many people in my classes getting revisions on their sleeves which kind of turned me off. Good luck which ever way you go!

I remember noticing how many food advertisements were on TV right after my surgery too! Because I wasn't feeing hungry though it didn't really affect me. When it occasionally did I just turned off the tv and turned to other things like reading, light housework, walking, etc.

Is this really starting?
brindall replied to smpruitt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way before my surgery. Almost cancelled it! But I'm glad I didn't. As far as how you will feed your daughter I had the same concerns. In the beginning obviously I had to make her own meals while I was on the liquid and puree diet however now I have her eating like I am, just larger portions. Kids are never to young to start good eating habits. She didn't like some of the food at first but she is now very willing to try different things and is finding things that she likes! It is a big deal and a big change but just take it one step at a time and you will find it to be doable. Good luck! -

How far out until you can have salad? -
I take the Celebrate Bariatric Vitamins in Berry flavor and I actually like them. I also take the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate in chocolate flavor and they are pretty good too.

Hi! I'm in the pureed foods stage right now and getting ready to move on to the soft food stage. I'm a little confused by the handout I got from my doctor's office though. They list the same foods pretty much on both the puree and soft food list, just that one is pureed and one is not. Are the foods supposed to be the same or can you add additional foods in? Anyone can give me examples of different types of soft foods that would be great.

Back to work Monday.... not excited
brindall replied to Learningtolive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery January 27th and I'm just now thinking about going back to work too. I'm a nurse as well and I'm still scared of doing all that heavy lifting. Plus I'm just worn out half the time. Lucky for me I do temporary assignments so I'm in between jobs right now so I can decide when I go back. Good luck to you!! Let us know how it goes! -
ERCP after RNY - questions
brindall replied to Djmohr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ERCP is when they take a scope and go down to your pancreatic ducts to look for stones or blockages I believe. It has to be done very carefully in general and much more so post RNY because the anatomy is different after RNY. I had one done before RNY. -

I've never heard that we can't be intubated the same way but I have heard that we can't have a nasogastric tube but down the same way, for obvious reasons. Tell us more about the intubation part!! -
6 days post op and ready to gnaw off my arm. HALP
brindall replied to RNYDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My go to liquid post op was jello and water. Not exciting I know but the jello gave me the different flavors and the water helped the thirst that I constantly felt. Like the other people said, it's the first step in leaning how to control you cravings and temptations. Just remember this phase doesn't last forever and before you know it you're on to the next. I'm in the puree phase right now and I'm sick of it. I go to soft foods in 4 days and I can't wait. I'm tempted to start them now but I then tell myself that the plan is the way it is for a reason so I'll continue to follow it. I wish you well!! -

Anyone have RNY on 01-18-16
brindall replied to Lyndzee104's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had my surgery on 1/27 and have been doing great! I've lost 15 lbs so far and am very happy with that as I was probably on the lighter side to begin with. I have also been diabetes free. I'm still on puree but go to soft foods this weekend. Any suggestions on foods that are high in protein? I don't think I have been getting in all the protein I am supposed to. -
Average weight lost early on
brindall replied to brindall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've relaxed a bit about losing the weight. I seem to have a pattern where I don't lose for a few days then I lose a couple pounds etc. I realize now it's not just going to "fall off"! lol -
I'm in the pureed food stage. Does anyone know what the average weight loss is during this time? I don't seem to be losing much.

Has anyone had problems with constipation after surgery? If so, what do you do about it? I haven't had a bowel movement in over a week now and I'm getting concerned.

Constipation after surgery
brindall replied to brindall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the suggestions! It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem and that it's actually common. I happen to have Miralax at home so I'm going to start with that.
