Having my gastric byapass on May 12th
RJC5197 replied to roxy0508's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have mine May 17 and starting preop tomorrow. Thinking about what a change I am in for from this point on But looking for it to happen. Sent from my SM-T310 using the BariatricPal App -

I agree. After a couple weeks of sugar free, I feel so much better and cravings go away, but let in a little slip and it seems like I am back to square one. Because of my problem with vertical banding, Processed foods and sugary foods go down so much better than vegetables and many fruits. Bad habit building for years. I have been trying to go sugar free for a few weeks B4 the pre-op diet, and have my ups and downs, but see more control than in past. Knowing I must make this happen to get rid of this band and get back to health is a big motivator for me.

Not telling people about your surgery is a "half truth" or a "lie" steams me like a pile of fresh cow dung...
RJC5197 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I really do not want everyone to know about my surgery, but given the amount of people (Work & Family) and a couple of them at work had themselves, or spouses had the same surgery I am having, know what is going on. Everyone know about the rumor mills at work places. The only good thing keeping them guessing is my health issues from vertical banding of 20 years ago (They do not know of) has put me in the hospital a few times and most just think I am getting a fix to that problem. I am--in that RNY is the proper and only fix available for me. I really do not care if or what other think, just that I am happy with what I am doing, Gladly all my Family has been very supportive, both over the last years and now. -
Congrats.. Keep up the good progress.

Water retention? Especially after eating junk, I can add 5 lbs. when eating 1 lb. of crap. -
My son had his a little over a year ago. He was 31 at the time. He was glad to have 2 weeks of. He tired very easy after WLS and needed to nap often, and also had to have some time to really focus on eating & drinking the way he should to heal properly. He also needed a Dr. sign of B4 his work place allowed him to return, and Dr. would not do so quicker than 2 weeks Good luck

What signs should I look for to know I'm full?
RJC5197 replied to numeby2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My biggest downfall from previous WLS was not setting specific focus time to eat and chewing as well as I should. I had vertical banding and restriction size made it that if I ate without thinking about it (At desk, in front of TV or doing something else) I would over eat and by the time I knew it, I was over full and sick. This I am working on doing better now since my RNY is in 5 weeks. -

Strange back pain post op out of nowhere
RJC5197 replied to GracefullyInsane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My Dr. said once your body begins making stones it will be easier and something we will have to deal with the rest of our lives. I wish they were Diamond or Ruby stones, then I would not mind so much. -
Strange back pain post op out of nowhere
RJC5197 replied to GracefullyInsane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
THX I am going thru the same thing. I passed all my stones except 1 big one and concerned with the high Protein diet I will have after bypass that will cause more. I took the 24 hr. test recently and Dr. is not really sure why I made any, but they are not fun at all, and I hope diet change will not support producing more. -
I plan on getting back to bicycling and possible competition shooting sports again. And of course spending quality time with the G-kids. I used enjoy being outside a lot, and looking forward to having the energy again to do these things.

Congrats. I have surgery date of 5-17, and my bosses are screaming because they do not know how to cover my responsibilities for 3 weeks. (Results to staffing cut backs with no backups) One even asked me to work from home the last 2 weeks, but I told him this is healing time, not working time.

I ate sugar today for the first time--and I didn't dump. Not happy!
RJC5197 replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info. I am a sugarholic and after a couple weeks away from it I have much more control and lack of cravings. I will work to stay away from it, I have a friend that dumped big time when she ate sugar after RNY, and something I do not want to play with. -
Day 4 of 3 Week Liquid Diet
RJC5197 replied to smashley296's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck 3 weeks is long time- I was just advised I will need 2 week Pre-Op diet due to revision and need to reduce liver as much as possible. Luckily I like shakes (At least for now-That may change after 2 solid weeks of them), and I will be on diet from May 3 thru 3-17, so not during any major holiday. -
Wear Tyvek suit and gas mask? Just kidding. I work around 400+ people and everyone is passing the same bug around. This one is nasty and taking a few weeks to get rid of. Good Luck

I really enjoy Bison, Deer and Elk meat now, but I am told with WLS (Bypass) that I must eat more fatty meats that are more moist. Drier meats cause digestion problems. I guess I will have to try some out when ready after my bypass to see. Maybe marinades can add flavor and moisture?

Find what you Enjoy& the life long change that comes with it. I have started and re-started exercise programs many times in my life, and really found what activities I enjoyed to stay motivated. I never really liked the gym, but during Michigan winters, it is better than sitting on the couch.
