Help me understand fruit and smoothies
RJC5197 replied to cseidman's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
When i had my band I rarely could eat raw apple because the skin did not break down enough by chewing so would get stuck. If I put the applein a blender with shakes, i never had problems. -

May 17 too I am nervous mostly with the possible longer recovery if surgery has to be open due to my revision. But I am also so looking foward to finally get this VBG gone and loose weight once and for all. I have lost 12 lbs so far on pre-op diet and that is encourging. Best to you on you WLS. My last Dr visit now has me thinking this will go open The Dr and PA said they will try for laproscopic but now the feel otherwise My main concern is I clearly remember the extra pain and much longer recovery. It has to be done to eliminate my VBG issues. How did yours go Thx Sent from my SM-T310 using the BariatricPal App

Loose skin with low bmi?
RJC5197 replied to Jazzy Jay's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had WLS surgery when I was 35 and after loosing 235 lbs, had considerable loose skin in midsection. I had tuck done and that helped a lot. Other areas like my arms and legs did just fine. I did fond exercise and good nutrition after WLS did help that. -
Those who drink diet pop post-op {Only nice comments PLEASE}

Well here it goes. I had vertical banding years ago and my Dr. never indicated if soda was good or bad. In the beginning I could not because of the small pouch, but as I stretched it out soda was fine. BUT I do think soda did contribute to the stretching and expansion of the pouch, and in turn helped cause the weight gain and other issues I now have. I am having revision to Bypass and already steer clear of soda all together. I learned from B4. FYI: My son recently had the sleeve MLS and even though his Dr did not specifically say no to soda, he cannot handle the gas pain it causes. -
I have drank it for a long time and wondered if anyone has tried right after surgery, and if it is approved to use? My NUT said some Protein powders are not good enough, but it tastes good to me now, and high protein with little carbs. THX

Pre-op diet- one week to go!
RJC5197 replied to lucja t's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Best to you. I hit my 1 week to go mark today and feel the same, and I have low carb meals my Dr. put me on, but 600 calories a day with only 40 carbs/day is tough to keep active. But this the calorie level we will be at after surgery for a while, so hope it gets better. -
I will find out soon, but told that dry meats will be difficult to eat, and may cause digestion issues. I was also told that BBQ'g meats will dry them out--OH NO I love BBQ. Maybe with sauces I can continue to eat BBQ. Also, I had vertical sleeve years ago (Having revision in 1 week) and even though I chewed beef well to get past the sleeve, it did make my stomach upset for a few weeks. I think it may be just adjustment.

I was surprised by the comment by my NUT made this week, that whey Isolate Protein is not good in that it does not supply the body with the full protein value on the label (Only gives 12 grams when say 30 grams), and so she want to see all Proteins B4 we use to approve it. I have used it for years and been told by others that Whey Isolate is a good quality protein and best utilized by the body. I also have a lot of it, in different flavors on hand, with high protein, low to no carbs. Anyone have any info on this, or do I really have a lot of protein that is not great to use?

"We are almost surgery date twins!!! I really hope it goes well for you too! If I end up with a full blown cut down my stomach, I'm getting a tattoo of a zipper to cover it! hahaha!" THX Another thing I do if someone asked about my long scar is say it is from a Shark Attack. -

Congrats and best to you. My visit was Monday for May 17 surgery. I agree there is a lot to take in, and the part about open procedure option made me nervous. I am having a revision an had open last time and did not want to go that route again, but with my past WLS problems, what ever it takes. I felt much better talking to surgeon and PA that they have done many of these revisions, and only with excessive bleeding (3% of time) do they have to go open.
