How soon after surgery could you eat raw veggies/salads?
glorybee123 replied to singermama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually salds go down really well for me. They are one of the easier things to eat. Of course you should follow standard advice to take small bites and chew well. I haven't tried them yet since I have gotten a 2nd fill but I probably will this week. -
My doctor says to do liquids for 48 hours after a fill. If you get really hungry, have a protein shake or some Special K protein water. Of course you can always have delicous sugar free popsicles or jello! I just got my second fill yesterday and am feeling pretty tight.

Afraid of Anesthesia!!
glorybee123 replied to alicatcyclist's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be sure to tell the Anesthesiologist about your experience before the surgery, and do some praying! -

For the constipation try drinking some apple juice or cran-grape juice. That worked a little TOO well for me! -
What is a good Post Op shake?
glorybee123 replied to MsHansy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There was a post somewhere that talked about a super protein shake made from sugar free Instant Breakfast with 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder, a cup of milk and some ice cubes swirled in a blender. It gets alot of your protein in one drink and it's not too bad. -
OK so I was doing a little cheating and snacking on some pita chips because I miss bread so much, when I suddenly got a very weird feeling. My band was telling me to stop but I took one more bite and felt PAIN! Then like an idiot I drank some water to try to flush it on down...., big mistake. For the next 15 or 20 min. I slimed and spit and brought up the water a teaspoonful at a time. I never brought up any of the pita chips, just water. I think maybe the water caused the pita to expand or something.:confused_smile:I think I won't eat any more of those for a loooong time!

Hey, I just wanted to let anyone who hasn't tried Special K protein water mix know that it's pretty good stuff, especially when you are on liquids! Ive had the pink lemonade and it is really good. It's 30 calories per 16 oz glass with 5 grams of protein. It's like killing 2 birds with 1 stone, you get 16 oz of your liquid plus protein at the same time! I think it also comes in strawberry kiwi. My doctor requires 48 hours of clear liquids after a fill so it helps to keep you from feling quite so hungry.

Hey, I think the time frame depends on your insurance or if you are self pay. My Blue Cross insurance requires a 6 month Dr. supervised diet, where you actually have to visist a doctor for 7 months to be weighed in. Then my surgeon requires that you attend a Lap band seminar, have a consultation with him and then insurance requires a nutritional consult and a physical therapy consult. It was a long drawn out process but it gave me time to really make up my mind and decide that this was what I really wanted to do.

What made you choose the band over any other type of surgery?
glorybee123 replied to Lyn2481's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey, I did alot of research over the years concering gastric bypass and seriously considered it. It was just too scary for me to go for the bypass. I did'nt like the idea of having my guts rearranged. I like the idea of the band being reversible. I hate not having an "out" just in case. I also work in the medical field and have just seen too many complications with bypass. I personally knew of 2 people who died of complications. I think the band is the way to go! -
MMCS is the best! Not only did I have my surgery there, I also work there! I may be a little prejudiced but I think we have a great hospital. Everyone was really nice, I stayed overnight. Good luck with your surgery!

Hey Tami, I'm so impressed with your weight loss! I see you started at the same weight as me and now you are in a size 8? I can't even imagine what that would be like! I was banded in Boaz by Dr. Groves.
-
One of the best things about the band is getting on the scale and actually seeing it go DOWN for a change! It's also wonderful not to have that ever present gnawing hunger anymore. You won't regret it!

How is weight loss for people over 50?
glorybee123 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been eating regular food for 2 weeks now, haven't had my first fill yet but I have been feeling discouraged because my weight loss has stalled out for the past 2 weeks. Ok I did lose 1 pound but that's all. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this normal? -
Where's your port?
glorybee123 replied to Laura_MD's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My port incision is about 4 inches to the left of my belly button and 2 inches below. I also have 5 other poke holes but everything is healing nicely. -
I m afraid I hurt?
glorybee123 replied to Anuemorning's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last week one afternoon was so warm and pretty that I took a brisk mile and a half walk with my daughter. This was 3 weeks after surgery and my first strenous exercise. I felt fine while I was walking( really kind of proud of myself for doing it so well) but later that night I felt like I had hurt my incision places on the inside. For the next 2 days my port area felt firm and swollen and I got random pains at the incision places. After a couple of days I was fine but will take things a little easier next time! -
liquids after surgery
glorybee123 replied to Teanne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, For those of you about to go on clears, the chicken broth in the carton tastes so much better than the kind in a can, no tinny taste! -
liquids after surgery
glorybee123 replied to Teanne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, My doctor wants clears for 2 weeks, full liquids like creamy soups and yougurt for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of mushies. I only made it on clears for 9 days because I was feeling so weak. The full liquids are alot better but I'm really looking forward to chewing again! -
4 days post-op and feel sick
glorybee123 replied to illion's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only took pain meds for 3 days, after that it really wasn't bad. I did feel weak and dizzy though. I think it's because youv'e gone from having say 3,000 calories to about 300 and your body thinks you're starving it to death! I felt lots better after adding a protein shake. I was out of work for 2 weeks and I really needed that time to recover! -
Congrats on your surgery date! Hope all goes well!

Banded on 1/18--feeling dizzy??
glorybee123 replied to alldunn33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too felt light headed and dizzy when I was on clears. I actually started drinking a protein shake 5 days earlier than I was supposed to. I felt SOOO much better but I found out today that my doctor wasn't pleased that I did that. I think I just couldn't function on the extremely low calories from the clear diet. -
Pam-Tx, I am impressed that you felt like walking 30 min the day after your surgery! It's been 2 weeks and I am just now getting enough energy to feel kind of normal again!

When did you really start losing weight
glorybee123 replied to brickgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey, Well since I am just 10 days post op I would have to say right after surgery, I'm interested to hear what the old timers say! -

Funny things happen when you start to age.
glorybee123 replied to crazycat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sue, Thanks for the info about the wrinkles. If I manage to lose 70 pounds maybe I won't even care if my chins are flopping in the breeze!! -
Hey, In my case after I turned in all of the paperwork, I called the office 3days later and they said they didn't have my old medical records yet. I told them that I had already given them the records so they located them and submitted my stuff online. About 20 min. later they called and said I was approved! I went through a rollercoaster of emotions that day! Good luck with your band!
