Hey Kim, Welcome to the Forum. Dr Groves did my surgery too. I'm saw him this morning and got an appointment for my 4th fill. Roll Tide! -
Anxiously awaiting next step
glorybee123 replied to BeautyLocs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your decision to change your life with the band. I don't think you will regret it, or at leaset I haven't! -
chocolate ECLAIR DESSERT 2 Pks instant french vanilla pudding 3 1/2 cups milk 1 container Cool Whip 1 box graham crackers 1 container chocolate frosting Mix pudding & milk. Stir in Cool Whip. In a 13x9 pan put a layer of graham crackers, half the pudding, another layer of graham crackers, the rest of the pudding and top with another layer of graham crackers. Chill overnight for the crackers to soften and flavors to blend. Top with chocolate frosting after it is throughly chilled. You can make this with sugar free pudding, skim milk and low fat Cool Whip but I don't know a a substitute for the frosting. It is Wonderful!

No restriction at surgery
glorybee123 replied to targa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said 2 weeks of clear liquids, then 2 weeks of full liquids, then 2 weeks of mushies after surgery so your stomach can heal. That's how you lose weight right after surgery! Try really hard to stay with the diet because the weight loss tends to stop when you go back to regular foods. Good Luck with your journey! -
That's not sliming, it sounds like sinus drainage from allerigies to me. Sliming happens when you get stuck... and you will definately realize that's what it is when it happens.

I am often very tight in the mornings and just drink a protein shake then take my pills an hour or so later on as I sip my coffee. I think you may have to forget about eating a large meal in the mornings. The band won't let you. If you have read very much on this site, when folks refer to "slimming", that's what they mean when you get the thick phlem. It happens when you get stuck either from eating too much, too fast, something too fiberous or doughy. Sometimes you also bring up a mouthful of food, that's what they call a PB or productive burp. Neither one is any fun!

I think it is normal for us to be depressed after banding because we can't comfort ourselves with food anymore. I also think you go through a type of greiving process for all of the things you can't eat anymore. After all, wasn't food one of our best friends? I get kind of depressed when it comes to going out to eat or eating at a family gathering. It's just not the same anymore. Of course I REALLY like the results of not eating like I used to! The band is totally worth it!

Not enough saline in band?
glorybee123 replied to dplacey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You usually don't get the restriction that you expected to have until the third fill or more. Just enjoy being able to eat a little more right now because soon you will do well to get down 1/2 a cup! I have found it better to let the doctor make the decision about whether I need a fill and how much. I know someone who tries to tell the doctor what to do and she has had to have at least 3 unfills already! -
How does a fill feel?
glorybee123 replied to tx girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't hurt, I just feel a little pressure because my skin is kind of numb around my port. It is a weird feeling when the saline goes in, sort of a squeezing sensation inside. It's really nothing to be afraid of. -
You really need to drink lots of water, I drink sugar free lemonade, cherry limeade and grape (Walmart brand). Also you might try taking Miralax at night for the constipation.

Hey crazygirl2006, I'm just down the road from you in Oneonta. Dr. Groves from Boaz did my surgery. Good luck with your surgery and God bless your husband while he is protecting us.
-
My doctor says liquids only for 48 hours after a fill then start out eating mushies and proceede with caution.
-
Well it does one or the other. If you have eaten too much you will slime and possibly have a PB (productive burp). If it's mostly the pain you are feeling, you can wait it out and the food should finally pass. Eventually you learn to really notice the full feeling before you get to the stuck point.

I've had some hair loss about 4 months after every surgery I have ever had! I think it has more to do with anesthesia. The good news is that it comes back. Of course I am careful to get in my protien and I take biotin too just in case.

I just had my yearly Pap smear and was really surprised to hear that I need to have a hysterectomy. I haven't really been having many symptoms. My doctor said I had a cystocele/rectocele. For anyone who doesn't know what that is,it's basically hernias. The bladder has dropped and is bulging into the vaginal wall on the front side and the rectum is bulging into the vaginal wall on the back. He wants to do a vaginal hysterectomy and anterior & posterior repair including a bladder tack within a year. I would like to hear from anyone who has had this surgery. How bad was it and how long was your recovery?

UHC, ~57 BMI, lack of weight loss history?
glorybee123 replied to ByeByeBonBon's topic in Insurance & Financing
I think they want documents or copies of your medical records that show your weight from the doctor's office. I know someone who was missing a year and they accepted a dated photo instead.(the date was from the camera itself). She also submitted a birthday photo showing her cake with her age on it. Good luck! -
A hostage in my own body? (or more accurately my mind)...
glorybee123 replied to leknigh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's a very natural reaction to freak out before surgery, I think most of us did it. It's stepping into the unknown that is scary, wondering if you can do it this time and make it work. I can tell you that I am very happy with my decision to get banded and I think you will be too. Hang in there and remember that the pre-op and post-op diets are temporary! Good Luck! -
Hey, Welcome from another Alabamian! I'm from Oneonta and had my surgery with Dr. Groves in Boaz. I was off work for 2 weeks. I know someone who was off for 1 week and she did Ok but wished she had taken an extra week. The first 3 days are the worst. After that you feel pretty weak and I also had bathroom issues ( liquids in- liquids out). Good Luck with your surgery!

Best/Worst things about being Banded?
glorybee123 replied to cobrien78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best thing about having the band is being set free from food controlling your life! It's also fun to watch the scale go down for a change. The worst is doing without bread and it's not much fun to go out to eat anymore....but it is SOOOOO worth it! -
Stopped Loosing Weight
glorybee123 replied to kelda44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your weight loss! My weight loss seems to come in fits and starts. After a fill I will lose pretty well and then everything just stops until I get another fill. I think I may not be a steady loser. I haven't figured out how to jump start it yet. Good luck. -
What you felt was restriction! If you continue to eat after you start to get that feeling you will PB (productive burp) which is absolutely miserable. Also after you have had a fill, whatever you ate that was once "usual" may not be anymore. Be cautious, take small bites and chew well.

I'm new here and thinking about the Lap Band Surgery
glorybee123 replied to MissBevy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's a little hard to explain but you just don't feel the same way about food after the band. Food no longer rules your life. You really just don't care about it much anymore. It is wonderful not to feel hungry ALL the time! You can still eat most things, just not much of them but you still enjoy eating and the taste of things. You can eat just one cookie and not the whole bag! It's great! -
Thanks for sharing your stories with me. I probably won't have surgery until winter. My doctor said it would be good for me to maximize my weight loss beforehand for a quicker recovery.
-
Thanks for answering my question. I know it's not going to be fun but it's encouraging to know that after 3 or 4 weeks it will be OK.
-
I did, and added a hot dog and some mustard.
