Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!

I'm 6'1 and my surgeon told me 200lbs and he'd be happy but I'm shooting for 190. I want the wiggle room lol
  2. I only had to stay over one night at the hospital. Went home afternoon of day 2.
  3. I'm 1 month out and it takes me 30-45min.

    Mediterranean Style Eating

I was a vegan for about 2 years and vegetarian for a year after that, all leading up to my WLS. (Btw-- I am not a moral veg-eater. I used to eat meat, then got sick, and couldn't eat it anymore.) In getting my sleeve done, my nutritionist and I devised a plan on how I'd be able to get my Protein in / keep the carbs low. I stuck vegetarian. I get my protein from Protein shakes , meatless ground beef (I swear this actually tastes pretty good), Beans, eggs, cheese and Greek yogurt (which I had to build up a tolerance to). I'm getting about 70-80g of protein in daily right now. My nutritionist also has me taking B12 and Vitamin D every other day (so I'm not missing nutrients with my intake). Oddly enough I was willing to attempt red meat / whatever to get my protein in, because I want to be very successful post-op, but when I tried it still made me really sick. ????
  5. Expect the unexpected. They did my sleeve surgery while I was on my cycle, and with the weight loss my usual 6-day period wound up lasting about 15-16 days. And now (1 month out) I've spotted randomly a day here and a day there, all attributable to weight loss. So just be ready.

    Calories Post Op

I'm 3 1/2 weeks out, and my nutritionist said the first few months normal intake will range from 500-800 calories. As long as you're following your doctor's guidelines, getting your protein, seems like you're doing good to me!

    Alcoholism & WLS

Before getting my sleeve, the pre-op cardiologist made a remark that I didn't really remember until now. He said "I see a lot of people get weight loss surgery and become mild alcoholics. Don't know why that is but be mindful of that." It was weird to me because I don't drink, but for those of you who are much further out than I, have your liquor consumption habits changed? Did you not before, but do now? Did surgery change how you feel about alcohol? Or is this just one of those things I shouldn't be too worried about?

    sleep

My sleep is pretty crappy now too. I'm not sleeping until like 3am and getting less than 4 hours each night. Then I crash for an hour at lunch (during work) to be able to keep going. It's terrible but I'm afraid of sleep medications.

    Cold all the time?

I've been cold all the time too! Unfortunately it's still kind of chilly here in Los Angeles.
  10. I walk 30+ minutes at least 5x a week, yoga once a week and weight train 3-4x a week. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and 36#s down since pre-op.

    Blood Pressure

After surgery my blood pressure was elevated but my heart rate was really high (155/82, HR 108). We found it was because I was dehydrated because it went away as soon as they gave me fluids via IV. Ive been home for 3 1/2 weeks now, and I check it everyday. My blood pressure hangs around 107/72 with a HR of 68. But above all else, I've gotta make sure I get my 48oz of Water in. Pre-surgery I was on Lostartan 100mg once a day for a little under a year. But I haven't taken anything since surgery.

    Scars...

I have 6 scars. 5 incisions and 1 opening where the drain went out. The one above my belly button is about an inch long, the others were half an inch or smaller. Mine were closed with suture glue (not staples), and 3 1/2 weeks out 2 of them have almost completely disappeared.

    Alcoholism & WLS

Thank you everyone for your responses! I'm not going to give it too much worry and I'll just focus on becoming even more addicted to my healthy sleeve lifestyle ????

    Weight loss pre surgery?

I only lost 5# on my pre-op liquid diet. But it's been 16 days since my sleeve now and I'm a total of 25#s down.

    Stretched Sleeve

I didn't know this was a fear of mine until I read this thread. Can't even imagine. But my surgeon made it clear going in that the surgery is just a tool and that we all have to train ourselves to adapt to the good habits that we keep to during our early stages in order to keep the weight off forever.
  20. I had my sleeve on 1/15. Diluted apple juice has been my saving grace. I do a 1:1 ratio for 8 oz, and that winds up being only 29 calories which isn't too bad.

  22. I'm a Physical Therapist, and my job requires a lot of bending and I returned to work after 10 days after my sleeve.

    African American vsgers!

Have you ever considered Vitamin therapy (via IV)? I'm researching it now myself but might be something you want to consider if you can't stomach the chewables. Also-- Congratulations to everyone who got dates and is going home! Yay! ????

    Do You Log Your Food?

Bariastic has a really good food/weight tracker for people who have done WLS. And it even has a barcode scanner for things if you can't find the food in the search bar/menu.
