What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
Joann454 replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't know the inverted part and I'm kind of glad I didn't know! That's interesting. I too had nurses that weren't aware of what I should have. One offered me a whole pill and I took it. It didn't bother me at all but after I swallowed it I asked if it was supposed to be whole and she was freaking out. I didn't have any gas and also felt like they hadn't done anything inside me. I wasn't particularly surprised about that because I had read of so many other people having that experience. I've enjoyed this thread. We are all individuals with different surgeons, pain thresholds, and life experiences. -

Why do we fall off the wagon? & How to get back on?
Joann454 replied to bostonmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yup. I had no idea how much I used food to comfort me. I would've told you before surgery that I most definitely didn't do that. It wasn't until I couldn't eat that I realized it. Grazing is a big no no for me. I have to thoughtfully plan my meals and not snack when vegging out. It's a HUGE adjustment but one I want to make and am working hard at changing every single day. -
Lol wish I knew. I was a hot mess the week before surgery. I spent a lot of time on here! It was wasted energy though because everything turned out great and yours should too. [emoji173]

I like chicken thighs because they are more moist. I've made them all different ways. So good. I ate a ton of fish on vacation (I won't eat it where I live. Not fresh) I have yet to try beef but I'm thinking a burger on the grill sounds good this weekend. I love cheddar cheese sticks. I love almonds too. Hmm I haven't tried pork either. Maybe I should branch out! Rib eye sounds delish too. Look what you started!

Welcome back! I came so close to backing out at one point. Do you have to do the six months over?

3 days post op and gained weight?
Joann454 replied to raynay05's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep. So many of us. You're full of IV fluids and swollen. I urge you to stay off the scale for the next two weeks. I lost very little during that time. Get your water, protein, and vitamins in. Walk, rest, and be good to yourself. You will lose weight! Now is for healing. -
What's your height?

First week in the gym vs this week, 3 weeks into it!

Definitely see it! Good job! -
Oh no! I'm so sorry [emoji52] In the meantime try doing keto. It's great if you are carb sensitive. You may enjoy it. I do!

Are you going to reschedule? I know a few that cancelled but don't know if they rescheduled

I found a couple of people who were either close to my area or had similar issues and just started messaging them. What do you want from the site? Are you looking for support or someone near you? Just gotta speak up. [emoji3]

I'm sorry you're discouraged. It's SO COMMON tho. Honestly. I had the famous three week stall. Make sure you're drinking all your water and let your body heal. This first month is about healing. It WILL come off. Are you tracking your protein and water ?

I was cleared right away to swallow small pills or break big non time releases pills. I thought the liquid pain med was tolerable.

Hear hear. Give me science and data! I can get on board with that all day! -
Ok I have a question. Asked in a separate thread but didn't get a response. Is it true that slow losers are less likely to need plastics? Anyone know?

So afraid I am going to screw this up.
Joann454 replied to melty29's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If someone is eating chips to stop a craving how is that learning new behaviors? Sure, now, while our stomachs can only hold a handful, it's probably not going to make you gain weight but what about down the road? This is the time we should be taking full advantage of our sleeves. We won't get this opportunity again. I won't even bring chips into the house, not even protein chips. Tread carefully. -
No Regrets ---but this is 'no fun'
Joann454 replied to Nanasha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to really try not to compare yourself with others. There are so many reasons people lose at different rates. There are vets on here that were slow losers and they are at goal and have stayed there. Try and just focus on what you need to do and it'll come off. I'm a slow loser too. I track everything and get my water in. The thing is we are losing and will keep losing if we stay on plan. Another bit of advice. Don't weigh daily right now, try once a week. Have to taken your measurements? I lose inches every month and it's encouraging when the scale is being a jerk. -

Maybe my goat will show up instead. You're welcome! [emoji16] -
I felt totally normal so fast. I didn't take meds after three days and I only took them to sleep. I have been able to eat anything and do anything. Like it never happened. Now two months later I'm down 37lbs and happy as can be! It's weird though. I expected something so different! Best wishes!

Best flavorless protein powder?
Joann454 replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Curious, how are your protein levels? If they're good then who cares what anyone says. I used unjury and my levels are in normal range. Now I'm eating food and curious to see what they are. I'll have them checked in a month. -

Tell me your Gallbladder Story...
Joann454 replied to Ldyvenus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's true. Once it starts it eventually comes out. Might be years but it might be tomorrow. Glad you're getting it done. Keep us posted! -
I was a bit low energy still at six weeks. Doesn't mean you will be though. Food should t be too hard. Be organized with your vitamins and water and be sure to get the protein in and rest of needed. I traveled at eight weeks and was perfectly fine! It was perfect timing for me as I regained my energy then.
