Things I didn't need to buy

Love this. I bought patch md vitamins my NUT wouldn't let me use. I was gifted tiny bowls, plates, cutlery that I have used but know I won't long term (the dishes are so cute I'll display them). Gas x I only used one. Chicken protein powder soup that tasted good before surgery and is nasty to me now. New slippers (totally happy about them, so cute). Small mixer mates by Rubbermaid which are invaluable for shakes. A good cup that keeps liquids cold. Can't do warm shakes and can't drink them fast enough to stay cold. I bought a good food scale that I know I'll use when I progress. 6 days post op
  2. I think I know the answer but yogurt and pudding are allowed on the full liquid portion part of my diet (which I'm on now). I don't see cottage cheese under either purée or full liquids. Any chance it's a full liquid?
  3. So is dark meat easier then?

    Who's having surgery May 31

You guys, I'm 6 days out and feel GREAT. I know how scared you are. A week ago today was the day before my surgery and I was a hot mess. This will all be behind you and a memory soon and you'll be over here. Congrats and try to keep your eye on the prize! Good luck!

    VENTING - can vs should

Yep. Totally agree. I'm kinda "hangry" right now so I just scroll on by if I can't be supportive.
  6. Crazy! All your work shows!

    VENTING - can vs should

Lol! Hysterical! That's a good point about burning out my family. Who knows. I'm here today and may never leave.

    VENTING - can vs should

I don't think I'll stick around and help. It sounds awful but I can see getting cynical and jaded and impatient. If I'm going to be that way I'll just move on because I won't be helping anyway. I already read some posts and am like "are ya kidding me". I don't respond but if that's already happening and I'm so new...well. I'm grateful for all views but people telling me "there there, it'll get better" won't help me. Flip side, rude asses won't either. I'm lucky and have lots of support at home and with my Bariatric team. My experience here has been incredibly positive and supportive.

    Do you still enjoy life?

I felt like you. I was so happy in my current life before surgery that I was afraid the surgery would negatively impact it. Then I thought, "what if I can be even happier"? Being only 6 days out I'm still in the earliest stages but I can already tell that I made the right decision. Enjoying life is about so much more than food. We will still eat. Just much healthier. On special occasions we can eventually indulge but now we have the tool to help us not over indulge and not make a habit of choosing bad foods. We will still live life. I'm working on my all or nothing mentality. I want to learn that enjoying a less than perfect meal doesn't mean you go off the rails. I figure if I'm making the right choices most of the time I'll do ok. We have to remember that we tended to associate food with fun. I want to start living without food being the star of my life. It's kind of exciting.
  10. I'm baffled that your NUT doesn't require a certain amount of protein. So what are you eating? Do you log your food?

    4 days post op expectations

Don't weigh yourself yet (anymore). I'm six days post op. My stomach is swollen and I'm bloated from IV fluids. Our only goal right now is to get in fluids, protein, and vitamins if they told you to start them. I haven't stepped on the scale and won't till my post op appt. I've read over and over that many people lose or even gain a little after surgery but then there's a significant drop a bit later. It'll happen.
  12. I had surgery the same day and feel hungry too. I suppose we are. I'm getting around 400-500 calories a day.

How much you can eat ?

Wth? How is this possible. I'm so sorry.

    Sweets!

I had a 1/4 cup of halo top today. It's a nice treat after just liquids. I asked and the NUT said it was fine.

May 5th less than a week away!

Idk. I haven't weighed myself because I don't want to get hung up on it. I have a post op the first week of June and I'll get weighed then. It's kinda hard to not check but I think it's made me have less stress.

May 5th less than a week away!

From what I was told we are retaining water from the IV and still swollen. I'm not sweating the scale. Just focused on healing and learning. I'm five days out. Don't freak out give yourself time to heal. It'll happen. Btw where'd that statistic of 25% don't succeed come from? I've never seen that.

    SF ice cream?

I just had a 1/4 cup of Halo Top. I was told I could have it. SF pudding is a no go for me. It was a nice change from shakes. Now to see how I tolerate it. I should add, I'm five days out and on full liquids.
  18. You're welcome. I literally went to discharge instructions because they cover wound care for stitches and staples in there as well. Keep your eye on them.
  19. I have glue over mine and no dressings. Why'd you have a drain? I didn't have one. If they are dry and not draining you should be fine not to cover them. Keep them clean with soap and water and pat dry. If you see one bleeding or oozing cover again.
  20. I purchased cotinine strips on amazon. You can check your urine yourself. They still showed it on the strip but the blood work was clear. When is your test?

    VENTING - can vs should

I didn't take it as "safe space mentality" at all. There's blunt and to the point and there's rude. It should be easy to tell the difference and I don't think rude is terribly subjective. It's pretty clear. I sense a "snowflake" accusation next. Let's not go there on here. There's lots of places those terms can be slung around. Feels like you guys both made your point.

10 Days Out... What is normal?

Call your Dr. I'm on five days out and can easily get my shakes down. Yogurt is a breeze. Water no problem. Vitamins easy as well. Maybe I'm not normal. Idk. It's still concerning enough that I think you should call. Feel better.

    Conflicted about surgery

I feel good. Sore but I haven't even taken Tylenol in three days. My first night home was rough but it's gotten better each day. When I'm just sitting it's like I didn't have anything done to me. Getting up to stand feels sore but once I'm walking I'm fine again. I'm a baby with pain. Emotionally I'm good. I think I want to eat but know I can't yet and know it's temporary. I'm excited about what's to come but right now I'm focused on healing and haven't even weighed myself since the day or surgery. I was incapable of feeling like I could do this without the sleeve. I have so much hope now.
  24. Whoa! What a transformation. Absolutely amazing.

    Conflicted about surgery

Omg yes I felt like this. I literally almost walked out surgery Day because it got delayed. I'm now six days post op and have zero regrets. Even if you manage to lose the weight can you keep it off? I told myself to either accept being fat or do the surgery but if I chose not to do the surgery I wasn't allowed to whine about my weight any more. Invest in therapy to get at the root of your overeating before surgery. Then you'll be ready.
