  1. Our weather has been lousy so at a week post op I've just been doing laps in the house. I have a bike but not a treadmill and the bike was too painful to do this early. So today I took my first walk outside. I feel so spent. Like a wet noodle. I didn't even go far! How'd I lose so much stamina?

    First real walk

How did you feel after you walked two miles? (I did a 1/4 mile and felt so weak) I just crawled into bed. It's making me crazy because it's so beautiful out.

    Alcoholic Drinks

Yeah, not worth it to me.

One week out and swallow pills with ease. Ok'd by my doc. I don't know why the liquid would work better pain wise if you get the pills down it's the same medicine. Yup. Call the Dr and see what the cause of your headache is.

    First real walk

Thanks. I felt like an invalid! My legs are still wobbly. I'll keep at it.

Great! That's really being accountable. Doesn't sound as if you went off the rails. I bet it feels good to be back in control today. Many of my poor choices in the past were me not planning and preparing. Thanks for sharing this. I'll remember it down the road.

    Alcoholic Drinks

My sister just got her PhD (super proud of her) and she's having a party July 15. I had my surgery 5/22. I've thought of having a glass of wine but perhaps not. I rarely drink (like once a year) so I can skip it. Guess I'm the designated driver

I'm scared because I'm craving at a week out. I have no intention of acting on the feeling but it's disconcerting. I struggle with what head hunger is and what it feels like. I can't tell. When you ate the carbs did you feel restriction? 1300 calories doesn't sound too hog wild. Not when we could eat 2000 in one sitting. One thing I'm impressed with is you logged your food. No head burying.
  9. Yeah. Google GERD if you have it the sleeve isn't a good option. Both procedures are wonderful though. You will lose on either and each have their pros and cons which you'll learn about no doubt. Don't give up your only chance to do this. You can always change your mind at the last minute if you decide not to do it. It's a wonderful opportunity. Then you can learn all about the procedures and life after them. It's a rare person who regrets surgery. They do exist though. I wish you well on your journey.
  10. Dave, you'll get a reply. Possibly lots of them. Today is a holiday in the US so maybe they'll be slower coming than normal. I'm very new to sleeve surgery. I was sleeved a week ago today. I came to this decision because ever since my thyroid crapped out me I have been unable to lose weight unless on a severely restricted diet which is hard to do with a normal size stomach. I shared so many of your fears. I asked myself, even if I could lose the weight would I keep it off. I've been doing this for years. I decided it was unlikely and that I needed help. The preop and post op phases are difficult but they're temporary. I'm following my Drs orders (except I want to use straws but we'll see) I'm not sure why the Dr wouldn't let you decide which procedure to get. Unless you have GERD. Although I've read the bypass is better for diabetics. Which are you leaning toward? I hope vets answer a lot of your questions as they can speak to further out in the process. Best wishes.

What made you do that? That scares me! You woke up the carb beast. Glad you're getting right back on the wagon.

    I have a question

When I had gallbladder surgery they told me to remove mine. This time they said no polish but I have my natural nails now. If your hesitant to remove them call and ask. You don't want a surgery day surprise. My gut says remove them.

    Straws

The link didn't appear (grateful). Hmm I might try it and see. If it hurts I'll wait. I am having no issues drinking pretty fast now. The smell of the shakes grosses me out. Distance via a straw would be good. Thanks

    Straws

I love straws. I've been sad without them. Patientfiftyzillion how far out are you from surgery? I'm having no issues and would love to use a straw.

    Surgery in 2 days!

You'll do well too! It's incredibly exciting. The anxiety sucks before hand but the relief is huge afterwards. I can't wait to hear back from you after your surgery!

    Liquid Diet

Blessing in disguise. This surgery saved your life most likely (even though you didn't have it). Sorry though, you must be terribly disappointed. Get better and it's a great idea to do all you can to get yourself healthy. Maybe you won't even need this surgery. Take care.

    Surgery in 2 days!

They usually check for leaks before you leave and from what I've read they're not all that common when dealing with a qualified surgeon. My surgeon hasn't had one leak. The leaks freaked me out too. It's truly a huge leap of faith doing this surgery. The statistics are on your side though. I was scared I was going to die on the table. Idk why. I've had surgeries and tolerated them well. I was so scared. Here I sit sucking a shake six days later happy as can be. If you trust your surgeon then let it all go and think of all the good that will come your way after.

    One year surgiversary!

    Fantastic!
  19. Your protein is low. I was told 60-70 grams. Is there a way you could get more in? Are you not allowed protein shakes yet? Hope you get feeling better.

Oh wow. How disappointing. Good luck this time.

    Post op complications

No complications yet and absolutely no regrets. Sleeved 5/22
  23. My neighbor freaked me out before the psych evaluation. She was telling me what to say what not to say. Worst advice ever. BE HONEST. Seriously. You want help then let them help the real you. I wish I hadn't listened to her. I know she was trying to help but instead I felt like I misrepresented myself. I ended up having a meltdown in the psych office two months before surgery. I thought they'd never approve me as even I thought I seemed crazy. That was a break through for me and I was easily approved. Let them help you if you need it. You want to succeed.

Things I didn't need to buy

Any broth. I just can't. I did eat a few tablespoons of tomato soup and I felt like I was eating prime rib. It was amazing. The things that are keeping me from being too miserable are yogurt, halo top, unjury shakes, and sips of tomato soup (I'm scared of the acid so this is just for a warm treat). I can't believe how good I feel!
