Surgery postponed for the right reason
Joann454 replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no. Why are you having regrets now? I'm so sorry. -
Pain in ribs isn't always "normal"

I think it's called an incentive spirometer? -

Did they have you gargle with something before surgery? I had to gargle for 30 seconds with some liquid that was to help prevent pneumonia. -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?

Great info! -
Post op full liquid stage question?
Joann454 replied to lizpuller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I would've never gotten all my liquids in if I couldn't count the shakes. I'm only 13 days out. How're you feeling? -
Post op full liquid stage question?

Anything you drink or eat that when at room temperature becomes liquid counts (sf popsicles for example) -

First Post-Eating After Surgery
Joann454 replied to lovedrotten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you say "regular food" could you give examples. An egg is a lot different than a hamburger. I ask because I've seen people on soft food as soon as a week out. I'd think she would have pain if nothing else. Does she experience any pain after eating? -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Joann454 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can get all your protein in AND lose weight doing it this way then I don't see the issue. I can't see me being able to eat all my protein (at least early out) let alone add a starch. All that's been drilled into me is protein first. I hope later on to be able to eat some veggies with my protein. -
So much contradictory info. My NUT said low fat too but I'm not sure I will do that. It's amazing how different all the Drs are.

Has anyone NOT lost their hair?
Joann454 replied to RHmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate how willynilly it is and that there's not much we can do to prevent it. I have very thick hair (I used to get it thinned) so maybe it won't be too noticeable. It freaks me out! -
Pre-op diet starts tomorrow ...it's getting real now!
Joann454 replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was basically mine too. I was so glad it wasn't all liquid. -
No Negative Comments! Did anyone cheat during Pre op

Good for you! Moving on to your new healthy life! -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Joann454 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly what my NUT likes but she's at odds with the head of surgery as he's all about low carb. I'm with him and as soon as I can eat real food carbs are getting kicked to the curb for keto. I've been very unsuccessful on low fat/moderate carbs. When I'm in ketosis I feel great and I'm not hungry -

Joann454 replied to Misha42000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found the pre op diet much harder than post op (for obvious reasons). That said, cheating obviously happens, but it really sets up a bad precedence. If you cheated then it's already done but I would not do it again. You're only hurting yourself. -
I hadn't even considered maintenance. How odd.
-
I would feel the same way. I am very weak on just shakes and liquids. Are you allowed food yet? If so I would force yourself to eat protein. I can't imagine sustaining this way long term.

How do I know when I'm full
Joann454 replied to Tdfuller137's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can drink with no issues too. I was told not to worry about that, when we start eating food we will feel it. I'm grateful I can drink so easily. Makes getting in all the water and shakes easy. -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Joann454 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not me. Carbs and my thighs aren't on good terms. Plus, I feel much better when I eat under 30 grams. Sorry, not what you were looking for. The thing is there are plenty of low carb veggies. Berries are fairly low too. Lots of options. -
Full liquids post op question...
Joann454 replied to nh-vsgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would much rather eat chicken salad with no carbs but on full liquids it's not allowed. I was so happy to sip something that wasn't cold and wasn't broth. I'm allowed cream soups and like you said, we are getting in so little of it. Add protein powder and it's a nice change. -

I felt the same way with tomato soup. It was divine! There's no restriction on drinking while on full liquids. -

Nutritional deficiencies
Joann454 replied to songbyrd's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yup. That's exactly why I chose the sleeve. For me it was a no brainer. I've never had GERD and am only prediabetic There was no good reason for me to get any other surgery. -
I hope it's normal because I was/am the same way. Except the first day because i was nauseous. We can't change overnight.

Long term vsg implications
Joann454 replied to Deactivatedfatgal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I thought most surgeons tested for this pre surgery so you could get treated (if positive) beforehand. I was tested.
