What do you mean when you say thyroid and hormones? Are you saying they are experiencing hypothyroidism? I was cold the first three weeks but my TSH was .50 that's not hypothyroid. I'm confused.
-
Well I'm 53 and don't know if that has anything to do with it. Maybe if you're younger you'll get yours back faster. Fingers crossed for you

Oh to pass time I was on here a LOT. I colored some. I couldn't read a lot because I couldn't stay focused. I napped. I sat on my porch and watched my goats play. It was a bit boring and I felt so useless.

Yes and it was that way for me until week five (which is where I am now) but even now, if I do a bunch of chores, I get so tired. I can tell it's coming back though. It has been the worst thing about the surgery (so I can't complain too much). I've read that in most cases week 8 is the week energy returns full force. Can't wait!

I get that "I have to eat NOW" feeling at times. I just wish I'd get it more so I would remember. My phone is nothing but alarms! Mostly for vitamins and medication. I should eat anytime one goes off. Hey! I think I just solved my problem. (Sometimes I make things harder than they need to be) [emoji23]

The A-ha moment!
Joann454 replied to nomorefattypatty's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah. I was so focused (and scared) on surgery that life after was almost an after thought. Once you're healed it's a whole new world! -
Does your mother know about the sketchy record of your surgeon?
-
I wish we'd hear something.

I was pretty petrified. Not of life after the sleeve but about surgery, recover and possible complications. It's easy for me to say I have no regrets because I (so far) have had no complications and recovery was very easy. If you have a good surgeon and are healthy you should be just fine. I wouldn't let the fear of surgery stop you.

Pocket Pals by Listerine. They burn my tongue but help so much.

How many Carbs a day ?
Joann454 replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On average I eat around 20 net carbs a day. Some days far less. With my thyroid issues etc it's the best way for me to eat. For me, the less carbs I eat the less I crave them. I was never picky about my carbs and what form they came in. Sugar? Yep! Chips? Yep!Pasta? Yep! chocolate? Hell yep! Best for me to stay far away. You'll have to decide if carbs are a slippery slope for you and obviously stay away from simple carbs and stick with complex if you do decide to eat more. Good luck. -
Yikes. I would never let someone cut me open that I didn't have faith in. Statistically the sleeve is on par with gallbladder surgery. Not sure where you got that statistic. Still, there's always a risk. The bigger issue is your surgeon. Can you get a different surgeon?

Do you find that vomiting has become part of your post VSG life?
Joann454 replied to FamilyGuyNJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I vomited my first night home. That's it. I'm never nauseated. I'm five weeks out and besides fatigue (which is slowly improving) and eating small amounts I wouldn't even know I had surgery. I feel for those who are feeling sick. That sounds so miserable. I hope it passes for you all. -
I don't think we can be friends. I don't trust anyone who doesn't like Mac & Cheese! But seriously, this makes me feel better. Although I'm only five weeks out. I'm ok now. Just had me a little nervous.

My NUT did too but probably not with the spicy garlic parm sauce lol. It was yummy tho.
-
Right? I kind of do too. It scares me. But I'm really good about never over eating and staying on plan. I'm so glad I'm not alone.

Hope you're healing well after surgery!

How are you doing otherwise?

Need some mental health support... (long post)
Joann454 replied to avatarkorraa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can you contact your Bariatric team to refer you to a therapist who works with WLS patients? You need some guidance with this because you clearly know the behavior is destructive but can't seem to stop, and you really need to stop. I know a part of you wants to. If you eat more you'll be able to exercise and that may help shape your body into something you're happier with. This is about being healthy both mentally and physically. Please don't let this get any more out of control and get the help you need. There is no shame in reaching out. I wish you great success -
I'm working my ass off on the mental. It's for sure the biggest part of the journey for me.

Did you have the sleeve?
-
I stop before I get full because well, I should and also because I'm scared. Scared to not do what's right and scared it will hurt. I feel like I could eat more as well but that might be because I don't let myself get too full. It scares me. I guess in some ways we're lucky and in some ways we aren't. I will say the three wings definitely did fill me up but not to the point of pain. So I felt the restriction at least!

Keto is easy but because of the meat can be expensive but since we eat so little it won't be bad for us. I love it. I eat low carb, high protein, high fat. It's such a strange way to eat because it goes against everything I've learned but it works for me! It helps the appetite and fills me up. I am incredibly carb sensitive (thyroid issues and pre diabetic) and this way of eating curbs carb cravings. Look into it. I plan to eat this way long term!
-
Thanks. I won't. I weigh/measure everything. I'm trying one thing at a time and the wings fit into my keto plan but I guess I expected my sleeve to hurt. Trying to find my way and it's just such a new way of life. Thanks again for the advice.

Hate tracking food - now stalled
Joann454 replied to shannybananny71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok. Thanks for your candor. I have a lot of figuring out to do. You were already in such a good groove with your diet before surgery. I wasn't. I had the two week preop but really that was all. Now I get why working on this stuff before surgery is so important. There's something appealing about your routine to me. I haven't eaten more than 15-20 carbs for a while now and want to keep it that way. It's so different once you move on to real food!
