What are your go-to foods?

How have they changed? I haven't noticed mine have. I still crave popcorn bad! Ugh! -
Questions about bariatric surgery

I think if you do a search on fibromyalgia in here there are a few threads worth reading. If I remember correctly one woman had more pain after surgery but I haven't seen her post a follow up. -
That's good news. He's showing his support in his own way. I'm so happy for you!

My NUT would have me eating so many carbs. I don't follow her guidelines but do a lot of smiling and nodding. She's super sweet but we don't see eye to eye on carbs. 15-20 most days for me.

Yeah, vitamins are not an option for either surgery. And calcium, iron, B12. It's a lifelong commitment. -
Questions about bariatric surgery
Joann454 replied to skyewolfe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh, forgot the after care. I had my wife with me every step of the way but many people do it who are single. The first week I definitely needed help. No lifting anything over a gallon of milk. I have a small farm and couldn't have done it alone. I took narcotics for a couple of days and then nothing. Not even Tylenol. It felt like I had done a bunch of crunches. Good wise it was kind of weird to remember I could only eat a few ounces. But I've been VERY fortunate with no issues eating and drinking and taking my vitamins. There are plenty who have struggled so much more than I have. -
Questions about bariatric surgery

I'm sure you'd find many happy folks who had the bypass too. How to get in the right head space? Learning how to eat right and actually doing it before surgery. Being really honest with yourself as to how you became overweight. I didn't realize how much I comforted myself with food. I didn't eat when stressed either. I ate to feel warmth and comfort (I'm struggling to articulate this well). When I felt down for any reason I ate and didn't realize it until I couldn't eat. I wasn't in touch with this until after surgery. Both surgeries are irreversible I believe. Bypass you have a little pouch and while the rest of the stomach isn't removed I believe it's no longer viable. Yes, the sleeve is the one where they cut most of your stomach away. You definitely need to be sure you want the surgery before you do it. For me, the lap band was not an option. I hated the idea of having fills and read about too many people who weren't happy with theirs. -

I had the sleeve five weeks ago. I chose it because it was simpler and the long term weight loss success was very similar to bypass surgery (although I believe bypass patients lose weight at a faster rate). I liked the idea of having no malabsorption and had zero reflux prior to surgery. The pain of surgery was so minimal for me. Had no gas pains. Sometimes I forget I had surgery and I'm only five weeks out. I've lost 30lbs between preop diet and post surgery. I do suffer from low energy but it's returning slowly. Are you a binge eater? A grazer? Emotional eater? Getting your head right before surgery is so important. I didn't and am facing it now. I was so focused and scared about surgery that that's all I focused on. I suggest NOT doing that. The real work is after surgery. I think both bypass and sleeve are great options. The band seems to have a lot of issues ( slipping etc ) my surgeon has stopped doing them all together. -
Yup. I had a day like that around the three week mark too. It gets so much better when you move to soft foods. You'll feel better. But I know NOW would be good. Some days just suck but the better days are definitely coming!

Did he say why he said no to bars and shakes? I'm curious.

Congrats! Although the physical hard part is over be prepared for some mental challenges. Did your dad ever come around?

I was allowed pills right off the bat. I had no problem taking them either. If you're struggling with them either wait five minutes between taking each pill or crush them. Time release pills should not be crushed however.

I miss feeling satisfied by food
Joann454 replied to FollowingMyPath's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am already enjoying eating again and it feels fairly normal but it's awkward when you go out to eat and you're just sitting there. I try to eat tiny bites so I can extend the time I'm not just sitting there. Fortunately my wife eats fast so it's not too bad. I'm surprised you're not feeling hungry and satisfied this far out. -
What are your go-to foods?
Joann454 replied to MSinger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wrap sliced deli chicken around a stick of cheese (string or sharp cheddar). It's filling and gives me decent protein. Sometimes I'll use Boursin cheese and a dill pickle spear in place of the stick cheese. Any deli meat would work. -
I'm almost five weeks out and can have the softer ones. Atkins peanut butter is what I just having for breakfast. I can't eat another egg! Not for a long time! So "egged out"!

Calorie Intake Concerns

Thanks! I intend to stay on keto but want to make sure I'm not screwing up my thyroid hormones. So I'm really interested in this. Appreciate it! -

I ate about 80 grams of carbs. I have no real way to know if it's why I lost the two lbs though. I did use dairy. -
Calorie Intake Concerns

I try and "refeed" carbs once a week. I did some research on Hashimoto disease and apparently when we are doing keto it throws our T3 into starvation mode. I wish I had the study to show you. The info is all over the place though. I tried it (adding higher carbs for one day) and dropped two lbs in two days. If I stall out again I'll try it again and see how it goes. -
Go on Pinterest and do a search. If you're willing to cook there are tons of recipes on there that look amazing.

Well now I'm nervous I'm eating too many calories. How's your energy? -
Calorie Intake Concerns
Joann454 replied to Txcutie67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I'd think that would be the bigger concern over calories. I have no trouble eating so I get all my protein from food but the super low calories leave me with no energy. I see my NUT Friday, I'm going to ask! -
How far out from surgery are you? I just went to the dentist today and he didn't mention any changes. I'm five weeks out. Too soon maybe?

I'm five weeks out as well and I eat twice plus that many calories. I average around 800 and I'm comfortable there. I wonder how many kcal we're supposed to eat too. I've lost 15 lbs post surgery and 30 lbs including preop diet. Have you talked with your NUT? -
So happy for you!
