RNY revision
jelaine5280 replied to jelaine5280's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello K, I went through all the same tests as you but my doctor didn't do the procedure that you had which is shrinking of the stoma as I was told it wasn't as successful for revisions. I had surgery on January 18th with my previous surgeon. I'm glad I had the full RNY revision because I had an internal hernia and he also repaired some other issues that don't show up on an EGD. I figured that in almost 11yrs the procedure would be a little different for the better. I'm glad it's over and hope and pray my issues I had before are no longer. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress. -
When in is it safe to have a drink?
jelaine5280 replied to thbrown223's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It definitely depends on the individual but do research about the affects of alcohol after RNY. I am biased because I had a close friend die because she turned into an alcoholic after gastric bypass surgery. All she did was drink and barely ate.She didn't drink prior to the surgery. I read that some ppl crave alcohol more after surgery and I know several ppl that have had RNY and drink a lot. I didn't have issues but prefer not to drink. My suggestion is to wait and then may have a drink and see how it feels. -

RNY- 10+ Years Post Op?

I'm referring to technology and the procedures. There was no gastric sleeve when I got surgery initially. -

RNY- 10+ Years Post Op?
jelaine5280 replied to ForeverHealthy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well my doctor said it wasn't abnormal but a possibility. A lot has changed since my initial surgery and his analogy was that when I got surgery it was like a new model car and unforeseen issues occur and requires a tune up. So thinking that I would never have any issues was unrealistic on my part. But I don't regret my decision to have the surgery I just know that I will definitely make sure that I follow up annually to make sure everything is working as designed. Good luck with your surgery and journey. Remember it's a tool that requires the following of the rules in order to get the most success. -
RNY- 10+ Years Post Op?
jelaine5280 replied to ForeverHealthy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello, I am 10yrs almost 11yrs. I was very anal about taking the vitamins required everyday. However just started running into complications with eating food and pouch not providing restrictions or Satiety so After 4 months working with my GBS Doctor and Gastroenterologist's the best thing to solve my issues was a revision surgery. So I am currently post-op a week. But to answer your question didn't notice major malabsorption issues because I used a lot of bariatric supplements consistently. -
I had RNY in March of 2005. I lost a total of 110lbs and maintained that for about 5 yrs. then I noticed my weight increasing about 10lbs a year and at about year 8 I started noticing changes in my tolerance for food, IBS, and the ability to continually eat with no restrictions and also no Satiety from food. So at year 10 finally went to see what was going on and found out that I had an enlarged storms which was causing all the issues with my eating and weight gain. This is regardless of eating good or bad. So after about 4 months of tests with a Gastroenterologist's it was decided that I needed a revision. I am currently a little more than a week out from my revision. Bottom line follow the rules of the tool and pay attention to your body definitely follow up annually with Doctor.

Oh wow 6. so I won't complain anymore. Lol. I didn't ask about the weight loss as I was more concerned about the complications I was having. However I hope I lose more than 30lbs. Because with the revision I am going through the exact same process as before as far as food intake is concerned but I guess I'll find out soon enough. But I let you know my progress and will ask the question at my 3 week follow up appt. -
RNY revision

I'm a week out and still feeling tired but moving around a lot more. I hate with the revision you have 2 drains. I got one out. The other one is for the old stomach and must stay 3 weeks. Ugghhh. Things have changed a little since I had my first surgery but for the better. I'm 11yrs older so I know recovery is different too. The one thing I've had no issues with thus far is eating or drinking which is good. I feel the restriction which I didn't have before so this is a good sign. I'll keep you posted. Good luck with your appointment. -

Hello my name is jeanell and back in March of 2005 I had RNY surgery in Denver, CO. My doctor was Michael A. Snyder. I lost a total of 110lbs but gradually started gaining 5yrs post op. I started noticing that food was causing digestive issues no matter if it was healthy or not and I was getting no Satiety with food. The symptoms got worse and exercise and diet was not stopping my weight gain. I finally decided to go back to my surgeon 10yrs pot-op and after gaining 60lbs. I found out that I definitely had issues with my stoma being enlarged and that a revision would be necessary. It has been 5 days since my revision surgery and I hope and pray I get back on track. I will definitely make sure that I follow all the rules of the tool and pay attention to my body. I actually had a hernia that required repairing during the revision surgery. My plan is to get as much support as I can because this procedure and journey is very exhausting mentally, emotionally and physically. I am excited that they have apps and forums like this to assist with this journey. I look forward to discussing my journey. Regards, Jeanell
