    Weight loss in feet

I can't wait for cute shoes!! I just realized I've complimented two coworkers on their cute shoes today. Mine are horribly practical. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Ugh. Will I ever get this surgery?!

Ugh, that is horrible!! I would get on the phone ASAP and start contacting other surgical centers.. Explain your circumstances and see if they can get you right in and start the insurance approval immediately. You can transfer your records so as not to repeat your pretesting. It's worth a try. Good luck, whatever you decide. That seems horribly frustrating! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
  3. I weigh 285 and I am projected to lose 90 lbs. I'm going to fight for more. It was only 10 years ago that I saw my lowest adult weight of 185, so I can imagine it, but can't imagine lower. Like, it's impossible. I secretly hope I'm one of the lucky ones whose body let's them get lower with a lot of hard work. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

Just approved for a gastric sleeve

I am dealing with the frustration of having done all my pre-op appts but the office still hasn't submitted my case to insurance. Been waiting two weeks Once they get approval, I'll meet my surgeon and surgery will be scheduled at that appt.

Hi, welcome! We have similar stats. I can't wait for surgery! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
  6. @@ridgerunner Try much smaller bites. Dime-sized if you have to. See how that works Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
  7. I'm pre-surgery. As part of my prep, I've paid more attention to this. I slow down my eating a lot when I don't have Water to wash down my bites. I take smaller bites, chew thoroughly, and swallow. If I'm not paying attention, I eat very quickly using the water to help wash down bites. I also feel bloated and "sloshy" when I drink too much water with a meal. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

    Is it normal..

I haven't talked goals yet with my medical team, just averages lost with sleeve. I set a superficial goal of 185, since that's the lowest weight I remember as an adult. If I get below that, I will be surprised and thrilled. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

  11. 80/20 coverage with $2000 max out of pocket for the year. I'm already up to $1100 this year for the pre-op testing. I would highly suggest that no matter what they tell you at the doctor's office, that you also call your insurance company for a quote. They are liable to stick to what they tell you (the call is recorded) and you don't want surprises. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

    Hursitism & PCOS?

Hi Ladies, If you haven't seen me on the sleeve forums, I'm expecting to have my sleeve surgery in the next few weeks with no date set yet. I deal with PCOS as a lot of overweight gals do. Recently, I've taken myself off of my hormonal birth control pills in anticipation of surgery and because of unwanted side effects (they've always made me a little bit nauseous and they make it difficult to achieve orgasm...who knew!). I'm going to be getting a non-hormonal IUD for birth control this Friday, but there isn't anything now keeping the hirsutism in check. My chin is a mess now and I'm plucking dark hairs almost daily! For the veterans who had PCOS, once you've lost the weight and the PCOS clears up, did your periods return back to normal? Did the hirsutism/extra hair growth (tummy trail, chin, face) go away without additional hormone therapy? Thanks ahead of time for sharing your experience! -Ruth
  13. I feel lucky that my surgeon isn't going to require a clear liquid diet afterwards. The first two weeks are "pourable, with no chunks". This can include pureed food, but I'll wait probably until the second week for that. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

    Hursitism & PCOS?

Well, got my IUD. Went with Mirena on my doctor's suggestion, so I will have progestin still. Not sure if this will help with the hursitism, but I'm hoping so, at least until I get my surgery and am able to drop significant weight!
  15. Middle school. The other kids let me know every day how I was different. Looking back, I was only slightly chunky, and I grew into it by high school. I got my period at the age of 14, and began to pack on some pounds again. When I graduated, I was 250. I remember hiding candy in my room and my mom finding it. That is a strong memory when she told me "Your dad and I haven't been able to find out why you were gaining so much weight, now we know". Middle school. IUD - What should I expect?

@ I am the same way! I'd rather know all the facts. It puts me at ease.

IUD - What should I expect?

Day two.. pain has been on and off. I was fine overnight and when I woke up. Experienced some pretty intense pain in the car coming home a little bit ago. Feels like something is stabbing me in my right ovary.

IUD - What should I expect?

Just got the Mirena placed...that was incredible painful and uncomfortable. My IUD appt took over an hour. I was on the table for 40 minutes. First, they tried to insert the sounding rod without dilating. That was painful and didn't work. It then took over 15 minutes to dilate my cervix. That was about an 8 on the 1-10 pain scale and did make me flinch several times. It was a pretty constant pain while they worked at getting it open. The actual placement was quick, not painful, and it was done. A little nausea and lightheadedness after, but I was fine to go back to work. I'm cramping now, but nothing worse than normal period cramps. I am surprised, actually, that I'm fine now. Standing up helps. I'm 34, never had kids, with a small cervix. I couldn't schedule during my period because I haven't had one in the last two months due to stopping my BC pills and PCOS. I would do it again, just because an hour of pain is nothing compared to 5 years of taking pills. However, I'm glad it's only once every 5 years. Knowing I'm covered is a good feeling. (On a lighter note, the doctor that was supervising the insertion played dubstep on his iPhone using Pandora. That was surreal.)

IUD - What should I expect?

I'll tell you on Friday... I'm tired of the side effects of the pill, and I'm horrible at keeping up with it every day. So, I opted for the IUD. Sleeve surgery was the deciding factor for me. 34, never had kids, and I have a tiny cervix. I'm pretty certain I'll be miserable after insertion. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
  20. I think you made the right decision. While you've done an amazing job, those statistics are scary and I've lived them three times. The longest I was able to keep it off was 2 years.
  21. I also work in the medical field, and told my coworkers. I only ran into one person that looked like she wanted to say something less-than-positive, but she wisely held her tongue. Everyone else was supportive or curious and asked lots of questions. One woman that I work next to is diabetic and around 300 lbs, and is very interested in the sleeve procedure. I'm hoping she'll attempt it once she sees how well I'll be doing! I like that I have people to discuss it with and go over recipes and tell my stories to. Funny how I felt a lot more comfortable telling them than my family... (only my grandmother knows).

    March Surgery!

8 lbs seems like a great job! I lost 12 lbs slowly working with my nutritionist unrelated to the surgery. I originally was against surgery but I came around

    March Surgery!

Eeek! I just heard my surgeon @ Mayo Clinic will require 2 weeks of OptiFast.. however, because I've lost 12 lbs since January, I may not have to. He's going to manually check my liver to see if he thinks it's necessary. Crossing fingers!
