BariatricPal Policy Reminders – Everyone Please Read!

I think we need some proof here Alex. Lipstick and Babbs weren't the problem and you know it. I'm done with this site. You should delete the accounts of people who want them deleted Good luck making money.

    Everything Hurts

Hi all-- I've got a kind of new thing going on the last several days. Nearly everything I eat causes pain. Even things like yoghurt and Protein shakes can make me hurt. I'm going for an EGD on 1/10 for my issues with meat making me vomit, but I'm wondering if I should call the nurse line on Monday… Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Protein

Yeah you may have a narrowing. I'd talk to your surgeon's office about getting an EGD. I have one Tuesday Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Protein

I feel full when I eat. There are lots of cravings at the beginning, or at least I did. There's a big difference between head hunger and actual hunger, which you will learn to navigate. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  6. OP, that was very irresponsible. You have a big, long staple line and you're asking for a leak or worse. I can't even eat chicken breast most of the time. Looking at that plate makes my stomach hurt. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Help! Does anyone have excessive burping?

I'm 4.5 months out and burp like crazy. I'm also having some other issues that may be contributing to it though Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Anxious in Arkansas

You'll make it! I was super super nervous leading up to it (I thought about cancelling). But you'll get through it, and before you know it, you'll be in the recovery room. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Loyola program/ Newbie Questions

I'm 4.5 months out Dumping was already covered. I've not yet seen hair loss, but it will grow back if you do lose some . As far as other tips, I'll second cutting out caffeine and carbonation before surgery. Also, begin trying to separate your fluids from your meals. That's another hard thing to do. Also, begin eating like you'll have to post-op: small bites chewed to applesauce consistency. The more bits you can start practicing now, the easier it will be when you're dealing with recovery. I took off two weeks from work. I wished I'd have taken 3. My first appointment was in march, surgery was in August. I was a little on the fast side because I didn't need a sleep study As far as other reads, there's the ASMBS website. Good luck and keep asking questions! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Crushed pills

It's because a pill won't fit through the opening at the bottom of your pouch. You'll be swollen, and it takes about 6 weeks for the swelling to go down. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Stage 2!

My NUT always tells me to use the spice cabinet to its fullest. Just be careful of seeds/peels because you don't want them stuck in your staple line. I lived on spicy hummus, refried Beans, etc in my purée stage Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  15. I'm three months out this past week! It just dawned on me that... I'm down almost two shirt sizes My neck is down 3 inches My waist size is down 8 inches. Holy buckets... and at my NUT appointment she told me that I may be losing a bit fast. Just wanted to crow a bit.

    NSV Alert!

@@proudgrammy some of that weight loss was preop. About half of it... The NUT was a bit concerned that I am losing a bit more than 1-2 lbs a week. I've been averaging 3-4. She really didn't get into why other than that's what you're supposed to do. And you're right, we men do lose weight quickly… for me the challenge will be keeping it off. I'm also pretty good at gaining weight too I love your posts BTW, always so positive.

What Is Your Holiday Party Strategy?

Stay away from the food table... and drink lots of fluids. That's my plan anyway... Probably will eat before any parties. That worked for me when I was on Atkins.

    Suit - Sport Coat

I have a thrift store called Savers in my area. I've been shopping there loads (Their proceeds help disabled vets). I haven't even spent $100 there yet and I've got enough clothes for work. It's been hard to keep up, I'm down 8 inches off my waist and down two shirt sizes.
  19. HanSolo1977

Drinking liquids AFTER a protein shake

My NUT said liquids are liquids. I tend to wait because the shakes give me some satiety and I really try to zero in on that feeling.
  20. I stop when I'm full. I drink two protein shakes a day (one after breakfast as part of my morning liquids and one after lunch as part of my afternoon liquids) to make sure I get enough protein in. I'm going to try the fairlife and protein powder.

    scared

Hi there! If you stick to your plan, you have nothing to worry about. 30 lbs over 8 weeks is good progress. Look at it this way: If you lose weight at a slower pace, you'll have less loose skin. Don't compare yourself to others. Everyone's different. I've been dropping quickly, but I've always been able to lose the weight. I did the surgery to help me keep it from charging back.

    Debating referral

@@WLSResources/ClothingExch It is great. I tried to pick up the 100# dumbell at the gym the other day and couldn't. It's amazing that I was able to carry all that weight around. And I know your sagacity goes beyond making pros/cons lists

    Lemon?

Yeah... that was my reaction too. I'm two months out and still having trouble with meat of nearly every kind.

    Debating referral

@@ginganinja14 - I was very much like you at the beginning. When I weighed around 340, I was working out and my doc was happy with how I was managing my diabetes. I made an off-handed comment to him that "I wish I could just get the weight off." His response was "Have you considered WLS? You'd be a good candidate." It took me over 6 months to make the decision to even go to the informational meeting (during which time I gained 20lbs). I had several thoughts like yours. 'Could I actually do it? Could I keep it up?' Once I went to the informational meeting and joined BP, it really began to sink in that the benefits outweighed everything else. @@WLSResources/ClothingExch makes a sage piece of advice. I did the same thing, writing down all the positives and all the things I wanted to accomplish. I'm almost two months out and I'm glad I did it. I've lost 106 lbs since starting to work with the NUT and getting the bypass.
