Why do I find this so funny?

OK this made me nearly spit yogurt out my nose.

    Starting over- introduction

@@CardinalsGirl - Welcome and good luck! This is a great group of people.
  3. As others have said, HIPAA and FMLA only require doctor's notes for the time off. My wife had surgery last year for a condition and the doc's note was like three sentences long: "<name> had surgery at <hospital> and can return to work after <date>" or something like that.
  4. I'm at the point where I've cleared the psych eval, I have probably one more dietician appointment. I've lost like 30 lbs since I switched my diet to the bariatric style one. I'm hoping to have surgery in July

    1/4 of a pepsi

I'm still preop but I had a diet coke last night (it was really the least evil of the choices available) and realized that after having sworn off of it for surgery it really doesn't taste all that good.
  6. So I had my 2nd round of appointments yesterday. Both the dietician and the psychologist. Just by eating more like I need to post-op, I've lost 22 lbs in the last five weeks. AND the psychologist has passed me for surgery! Still have one more visit with the dietician... need to eat out a bit less Sometimes a good day is had. After the week I had last week I needed a victory.

    Kick Arse Appointments

Thanks, everybody. There's still this little part of me that's nervous about the permanence of it, but yeah once I get more into the cooking habit (and getting my wife on board with that) I should be in good shape.
  8. Welcome! Congrats on taking the first step. My mind was reeling when I first decided to go to an information session. Everyone's path is slightly different because of medical requirements and insurance requirements. My only advice as a preop is to just follow what's put out in front of you with the following in mind: the requirements are only to help you be successful. Those things that are tough only make post op easier. Also know that you're not alone and we're here to help
  9. My goal weight is 215 which puts my BMI at 30. In order to get to nominal BMI, I'd have to weigh 178. That would be downright impossible. My bariatician thinks my goal is reasonable, but he thinks I'll go a bit farther. We'll see what my body can handle
  10. That is so awesome! Congrats [emoji122]

Not sure who I should tell!

Your work doesn't need to know what you're having done. In fact your letter will just say surgery and when they clear you to come back.

    The big day

I don't have a date yet and I have bouts of fear. I get scared that it's not going to work. Scared they're not going to clear me. Scared of the pre op diet. Scared of the post op diet. But after I come here I get invigorated. Know you're not alone

    Pre op appt nosedive...

Do you weigh more than when you started? If not, you're fine. My surgeon only requires that I don't gain above my first weigh in. I had gained by my next weigh in, but I've just trying to follow the NUT's advice. You'll likely lose quite a bit on the preop diet.

    Young and getting the bypass

I'm not in my 20's . When people ask, I just am planning on saying that I cut out the bad carbs, and am exercising. Which is the truth, just not the whole truth.
  17. I'm about mid-point through the process. I see the dietician and the psychologist again on 4/18. Took all the psych tests last week... MMPI plus five others... two hours ugh. No one at my clinic is mentioning an endoscope. Is that standard? Likely I'll be in surgery in July.
  18. @@Alex Brecher I've noticed a problem if you try and mention more than one person in a post. Instead of the formatting with a link, the second person, say @@Dub (sorry, I needed an example) shows BBCode instead of a link

    Cheese

costco has a harissa flavored goat cheese that's the bomb. Spicy goat, what's better? I like all sorts of cheese. I have an affinity for just about everything. Is Brie ok for us to have? I love brie, especially on french bread (lived on it in Paris quite literally) Edit: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ee/f7/3b/eef73bc94d8f4053a84e44826ea31487.jpg

I am going to try this... although I'm more of a Cholula man...

    Consultation scheduled!

    Good luck!
  23. Awesome! As our friend @@Dub is fond of saying, "you've got this" Best of luck on your preop diet. After a few days you'll feel better.

Not sure who I should tell!

Most of the time it just says surgery. There's no requirement saying what surgery as far as I know.
  25. So I had my first appointment with the dietician on Friday. It started out quite rough. I had my weigh-in and I gained weight since my initial visit with the Bariatrician last month. I was +4 I think. That could be a deal-breaker. I need to be at or below my initial weight for her to pass me through. She gave some great info, but I'm not sure I like her yet. She's tiny (which I couldn't care less about but…). And she bragged about how she started eating like we're supposed to and lost 10 lbs and how she didn't ever have a gym membership because she does the "Soup can" exercises--"even though I'm a dietician" Sorry just felt down and needed to vent. Hope the psych thing tomorrow goes better -H
