I've made it. I've reached the end of the pre-op stage and tomorrow I enter the next phase. I want to thank all of you for your kind words and support. I couldn't have done it without you.

I'm a huge fan too. Wore this shirt to the hospital [emoji38] http://shirt.woot.com/offers/starcheology

Hey everyone! I made it. I was #2 on the docket today. Dr. Kelly was very pleased with how surgery went. I'm having some nausea but the afternoon nurse suspects the narcotic pain killer was doing it. But other than that, it's been no sweat and sip, sip, sip!

Congrats Joe! This was a great post to read on the eve of my surgery.

Sorry I've been gone for a while... been busy with a new job. I'm one week out from surgery. One week from now, I'll be in my hospital bed wondering what I got myself into The first week of the liquid diet has gone pretty well. Haven't cheated yet and I've lost about 9 lbs! Hopefully I can steer clear of temptation and not get too sick of Soup. Hopefully the stuff I'm eating will shrink my liver down to make my surgeon happy. So much for a constructed post... I'm hungry dammit. I know good lies ahead. Just wanted to ramble on a bit.

Good luck @@gidgetgrl as well. I'll make some room on the losers bench for you! Hi ..same for me @HansSolo1977! My surgery is on 9/1 ..this is my 6th day of liquid diet and I am 5'1" Last Friday I was 203lbs at pre op Dr visit, today I weighed 196 at hospital pre op testing. Scared and nervous too, but some of the before and after pics on here are so inspirational.. It's a great motivator! Good Luck next week!

Coming down to the wire...
HanSolo1977 replied to HanSolo1977's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was fine until I tuned into South Park the other night and saw commercials for a certain mexican fast food place that used to be a guilty pleasure. I had to go drink a bunch of water! Good luck to you as well! -
Advice on nutrition when flying 2 weeks post-op
HanSolo1977 replied to vamping's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know this isn't nutritional related, but be aware of blood clots. Make sure you move your feet and get up part way through the flight. I'd hate to see you get a blood clot. -
I spoke with the scheduler for my surgeon last week and I now have a date: Aug 31. I'm both excited and nervous. I want to thank all of you that have interacted with me and helped me along this leg of the journey. It's helped more than you know. Thank you!

Thanks everyone! The responses really put things into perspective. I'm continuing down the surgery road. My wife actually said "You've worked so hard for it, it would be a bummer to cancel it" I've been kinda worried a bit lately about her reaction to everything

I don't know whether it's starting a new job or what but my confidence about getting surgery has eroded and I'm kinda back in the "Should I do it or not" camp. Hell of a time for this to happen... I see the surgeon for my consult on Thursday. That may be part of it. When I leave I'll have a date. I've lost 50lbs eating more like I will need to after surgery. I'm grappling with the way life will be after surgery and wonder if I want to go through all the changes; especially after I've had success. However, the reason I've made changes is so that I can prove to myself and to the program that I can do it. If I pivot away from surgery, I'll likely just end up back where I was because I'll start drinking with meals again, drinking diet soda and caffine, eating burgers and fries and all those other things that contributed to my weight. I go to support group and I see how confident all the people are and I don't feel confident. Am I making any sense? To top it all off, This American Life this week is about being happy overweight.

Had my visit with the dietician last week. I've now lost 37 total pounds since seeing her. She's really happy with my progress and has passed me for surgery! Next stop is a consult with the surgeon, but I have to wait until June 23 because of scheduling. So nervous!

Had 1st appointment with Surgeon Today
HanSolo1977 replied to ZollDoll's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This. My surgery is going to be done through a "Bariatric Center of Excellence" and they don't do the DS. They actually refer out to the University of Minnesota or the Mayo Clinic if I remember what the surgeon said correctly. -
Conflicting info - losing/gaining weight before surgery
HanSolo1977 replied to WitchySar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is the same in my program. They also require regular dietician visits, a psych eval, and attend the support group at least once. My insurance company required I get 15 minute phone calls every two weeks. -
Psych Eval....Done! 6-month wait per insurance rule....HELL NO!
HanSolo1977 replied to gina171's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congrats! I've been cleared by the NUT and the Psych and am waiting for my surgery consult on June 23. -

What are your favorite snacks?

That right there may make me actually eat a deviled egg. Thanks for sharing. -
Any other men approx 5'10" 300lbs when they want in for surgery?
HanSolo1977 replied to ag0177's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good luck @ag0177 I'm 5'11" and still preop, but you can see that i've already lost a significant amount of weight thanks to my NUT making me eat more like I have to after surgery. -
You look great... @@gowalking has some good advice.

UPDATE: We've updated the BariatricPal iOS and Android Apps!

Since the last update (iOS) the notification list in the app is empty. -
I can tell you, as someone who's had a CPAP since 2002, that the benefit definitely does outweigh the mask. My wife calls it our "little marriage saver". You'll get used to it. You would not believe how much better you have it starting now than I did in 2002. My machine sounded like Darth Vader in a TIE fighter. Some tips I have... Don't use the Ramp function. Makes me feel like I'm going to choke. Use the humidifier. Make sure you have plenty of filters and change them regularly. Get a new nasal pillow whenever insurance covers it. I was really bad about it for a while and my nose hated me for it.

Net carbs vs actual carbs ....
HanSolo1977 replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My dietician has me on what she calls the 10/10 rule... 10g or less of fat and 10g or less of sugar... hard to argue with my preop weight loss. But like others have said, do what works for you. -
102 lbs gone babeeee! Post-op GB 35 weeks

Are Your Family Members Overweight and Which of Them Supported You?
HanSolo1977 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My mother and father are both supportive of my decision. Both are overweight. My sister and brother I'm not telling. My sister is very bad off (she needs the surgery far worse than I do) and gets angry/dramatic about any kind of health discussion.
