    Protein Drinks

You know, I was drinking the chocolate Premier Protein shakes just fine for all the 6 months I had to eat a low carb diet while seeing my dietitian. Once I started my second week of my liquid diet where I was allowed to drink Protein Shakes again, something was just not agreeing with me with those shakes. TMI, but they were giving me diarrhea, so I tried the chocolate truffle flavor from nectar, as suggested by my dietitian because it's both lactose and gluten free. I'm going to give myself a little more time to try out the Premier Protein shakes one more try before calling it quits because I really like them. I don't have gluten issues, but the chocolate truffle Nectar Protein Powder tastes great with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I've been able to eat puddings with no problem, so I'm not entirely sure it's a dairy/lactose issue. As Cindy suggested, PB2 is a great addiction to jazz up a shake!
  2. Hi everyone, I had a question about post op pain. I'm currently 16 days post op, and it's felt like so much longer. For the first week, I was on my pain medication, and finally, one day I felt I didn't need it. There was still soreness on my right side, but that was pretty much it. However, I want to say a couple of days after that and after sleeping on my right side, some pain came back, but a different type of pain. Usually in the morning is when it's the worst. It's a dull, pulsing pain that goes away quickly - like it won't even last a full minute, and I might feel it here and there throughout the day. Then, I also feel a type of pulling sensation I guess? The area I'm feeling pain also feels tender to the touch if I gently run my nails over it. This also is by my lower right incision and it sort of radiates a little above it. The muscles in this area still feel pretty sore when I use them (like sitting upright after having been laying down). That being said, the area does not feel hot, and I'm not running a fever. Mostly, I feel just fine, but I guess I'm just wondering how long this is supposed to last because I've felt this for almost a week now, and I feel like it's not getting better. While I realize it can take time to heal, I was just wondering how long some of you felt pain post op? On a side note, I've also been doing really crappy with my Water intake, which I am currently working on as I type this (and will continue to of course).

    Ashamed

I think the only people I have to worry about to ask that is people at work, which I'm dreading. I don't think it's an ashamed thing, but more of an i-don't-like-you thing. There's a lot of people at my job that have had WLS including two older women that report to the same supervisor I do, and I try to avoid them like the plague. As nosy as they are, they would try to ask me questions, but I"ll just have to ignore it if that time comes. All that aside, I understand how you feel, but everyone else is right with what they've said. Your body is YOUR business, and you don't have to answer anything you don't want to.
  4. Ha! That's awesome to hear. I actually was just telling my boyfriend that we need to go and buy this to save time. I'm a rice lover, so I'll certainly get use out of this. When I get home from work, I don't feel like pulling out all the equipment just to make cauliflower rice or a cauliflower pizza crust (which is equally delicious), so this is number one on my shopping list once we can start eating normally again.
  5. Hi everyone. Thought I'd say hi and share a bit of my experience too. Just like Jay mentioned above, my fiance and I also had our surgeries on 12/31/15, and are currently 2 weeks post op. We are both doing pretty good, but I'm a huge worry wart. I hope I eventually will be able to stop this because worrying constantly sucks - I mostly mean this generally. Both of us are HUNGRY, and can't wait for next Thursday which is when we'll be able to start on soft solid foods. BOY, I can't wait to have a scrambled egg. Mostly, we've just been eating tomato Soup, sf puddings and Jello, sf Powerade, decaf iced coffee, and Water. I feel like I've been having a bit of an issue with staying adequately hydrated, but I think little by little, I'm not having to take such tiny sips anymore, so hopefully this will help. Normally, Protein shakes would be a thing, but after surgery, something seems to not agree with me and Premier Protein Shakes which is what we were drinking 6 months prior to our surgeries. Our dietitian did inform us that it's possible we could develop lactose intolerance, and if that was the case, we needed to switch to a lactose free Protein powder such as nectar. I had diarrhea after drinking Premier Protein shakes for 2 days, and then tried to leave it out. Sure enough, the next day, my stomach was fine. However, I don't think it's a dairy issue. I have been perfectly fine continuing to eat sf puddings with no stomach problems. In the meantime, I held off on protein shakes and ordered Nectar's chocolate truffle protein powder which is both lactose and glucose free. Today was my first day trying that, so I have my fingers crossed. Our surgeries were the same day, and we were able to go home the next morning. All the staff that tended to us was telling us how good we looked and were doing. The only thing I really didn't like that seriously freaked me out was the breathing treatments they did. I'm assuming some of you had to do the same thing? I'm not sure what it's called but it was a little tube that almost had a little built in humidifier type thing. Obviously, it had medicine of some sort to help the lungs. This stuff made my heart race, and I said no more. Continued to use my spirometer as instructed, and was fine. My fiance says that he feels pretty much normal and has no more pain or soreness. Me, on the other hand, still has some soreness on my right side and some tenderness around one particular incision. Incisions are all healed up and closed. Speaking of which, anyone else have a reaction to steristrips and get blisters? -.- The moment I took them off, I was all better. Finally, I also seem to be at a bit of a standstill with my weight. My apologies for all my jumbled thoughts. I just wanted to kind of get everything out there that I had wanted to talk about. Hope all you other folks that got December surgeries are doing well!
