  1. 50 lbs. Someone at work just recently stopped me and asked if I had lost weight. It was weird, especially since I don't really "see it yet." I think the bigger you are the more it takes to see a difference.

My husband and friends that know about my surgery say they see a change, but I think they are mainly just trying to be encouraging. I have only barely gone down one clothing size.

  2. I am having mine tested on Nov. 18. I have never done it before. I will let you know what I find out. I had my surgery 2 years ago and have been at goal weight for 20 months.

Not sure where in WA you are - where are you going for testing? I've been looking for a place in the Seattle area if you have any suggestions.

  3. I agree with @bufflehead. I'll do real sugar if it is a small amount and it's "worth it" but I try to use other sweeteners for foods that normally are high in sugar. Overall I just avoid sweet stuff.

I always hated fake sugar preop. I started trying stevia products, which I find slightly more tolerable. I still don't love it but I can deal with it for certain foods. For example, greek yogurt is such a great source of healthy Protein, but many brands have a ton of sugar! I eat a stevia or splenda version of those. However, to sweeten my morning tea, I use the real thing because I use such a small quantity.

Also, I'm trying to see food as fuel, not a primary source of pleasure so eating fake sugar foods is less likely to make me want to overeat them.

  4. Everyone's experience is a little different, so take all this with a grain of salt.

I had surgery 8/11/16. The first few days were painful due to gas pain in my shoulder and soreness at the incision sites, but that is what pain meds are for :) By week 2 I was feeling much better, though low on energy for the first month.

I have lost 28 lbs since surgery.

The rate you lose can have a lot to do with your starting bmi and how much you lose prior to surgery (not to mention your genetics, gender, age, activity level, and eating habits). I started at 47 bmi and lost 22 lbs prior to surgery. Now I'm at 38.5 bmi.

  5. I think a lot of relationship issues come down to communication. Never assume what the other person is thinking or feeling.

You guys might benefit from talking through some things...First, maybe he doesn't really know much about the how the surgery works or the medical issues that contribute to obesity. My husband was hesitant when I first brought up wls, but the more he learned, the more he understood and accepted my decision. Would he be willing to learn more by going to a Drs appt or support group with you?

Secondly, you might want to talk more about why he doesn't want you to have the surgery. Is he worried about your health? Is he feeling insecure about you becoming healthier or more attractive? Is he afraid you won't be able to do or enjoy things you used to?

Once you each understand more about each other's perspective, you might be able to reach a better understanding.

  6. Don't worry, you aren't the only one who feels like they are losing slower than everyone else. I was sleeved one week after you with similar stats - surgery weight 263 now I'm at 239.

It is driving me crazy because I stall and stall then lose 2 lb, then stall some more. I thought it would go faster....

But, we just have to be patient and focus on the positives. Like you said, I know that I would never have lost this much in 2 months without the surgery.

Stay strong and focused and know that not everyone loses fast. In fact I suspect we are the normal ones. We'll get there eventually! ????

  7. Is it just your husband that irritates you?

I find myself getting irritated very quickly post- op. I've always had a short fuse, but normally I'm pretty good keeping it under control but now I snap at every little thing (especially my husband!)

It makes sense with all the crazy hormonal shifts our bodies are going through, but it's a real issue to be mindful of.

  8. My nutritionist and I just talked about Snacks. She said that planned nutritious Snacks and grazing, mindless snacks are different.

If you know you are hungry (not boredom hunger, head hunger, etc) its ok to have a healthy, measured snack that fits within your Protein and calorie goals.

Are you eating below your calorie levels or getting a lot of exercise? If so it is not impossible to feel hunger regardless of us having reduced ghrelin production and a smaller stomach.

  9. My theory is that it is just air getting trapped in the stomach when you swallow food and it gurgles because all the bubbles have to find a way back out and that movement makes noise. The reason it didn't happen pre-op was because we had huge stomachs with plenty of room for a few air bubbles. Everything wasn't so constricted and they could ease their way out without pressure. They had room group together into a single burp, instead of each bubble getting squeezed out right away.

I find it happens less when I eat carefully to avoid swallowing air and gulping.

  10. It may not feel like it right now, but you are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Look at what you accomplished before - 40 lbs in 3 months is pretty amazing!

I hope you can find the help you need with counseling or a support group. You don't have to do it all alone, but don't forget to give yourself credit for the good things you've done and are capable of doing again.

  11. I am about the same length post op. I have been fortunate that everything I've tried seems to sit with me well. No major intolerance. However, I do find myself feeling uncomfortable and gurgly if I eat too fast or don't chew really thoroughly. I ran into that more when I moved to solid foods. I have to really work on reminding myself to go slow, take small bites, and chew.
