  1. Congrats! How are you handling the preop diet? I swing between being totally starving and feeling satisfied and fine. I never knew how much love I could feel for a cup of carrots! I do feel a little less energetic than usual, so I hope I adjust to the reduced calories soon and get my mojo back. I would kill for a cup of tea right now! You are GHC right? Has Overlake called to set your surgery time yet? I'm still waiting to find out when mine is. Sent from my LGLS740 using the BariatricPal App

  3. Hi all! This thread quieted down a while back, but I thought I'd check in and see how everyone is doing? What's new? How's life? What's your status? I'm working through my 2 week preop diet. 9 more days!! Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

    Alcohol Addiction

If you are an American, HIPAA law prevents your employer or future employer from being able to access your medical record. No medical practice would go giving out that information unless they want to get sued. It is against the law. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

    August 11th anyone?

I'm 8-11 too! My medical team requires a two week preop diet, which I started today! Sent from my LGLS740 using the BariatricPal App
  7. I am 3 weeks pre-op and even though I am excited for this change, I'm worried that I am underestimating how hard post-op life will be. I keep telling myself that I can make the required diet changes, but saying and doing are two different things! I have already made some changes to my diet, reducing calories, increasing Protein and Water, avoiding unhealthy foods, but no matter how hard I try I keep slipping up here and there. Post-op people, how hard was it to adjust to your new life after wls? How often do you miss foods or feel deprived? How often do you slip off plan? Sent from my LGLS740 using the BariatricPal App

    Chest pain and foamies

At my last support group meeting someone brought up this same issue with cream of wheat. People said that it expands for a while after you cook it. If you eat it shortly after cooking, it will expand in your stomach and cause discomfort. They suggested you should let it sit for a bit before you eat it. Even let it cool and then heat it back up in a microwave later so that it is completely expanded before you eat it. That way you'll know how it fits in your stomach better. How have you adjusted to wls life?

I think one reason I'm feeling so worried is because I feel a lot of "last meal" cravings right now. I have to start my preop diet next week and all I keep thinking about is the food I want to eat this week before I have to give it all up...but I know that type of thinking is NOT going to help me be successful with this. I don't want to be someone who cheats or constantly eats around their sleeve, but summoning the willpower to say no to the things I want is really a challenge for me. I think I need to do some soul searching about my priorities and goals and really get my head in the game. Sent from my LGLS740 using the BariatricPal App

    Always irritable

Sorry you are experiencing this. I've heard others talk about the mood swings that can come in the early rapid weight loss stage, and I'm really worried about it. I have a bit of a temper anyway and I've had issues with anxiety and depression throughout my life, so I feel like this could definitely be an issue for me. I've already warned my husband that I could be really emotional during the first month or two. I don't think it will last forever, so hopefully it will pass and you'll start feeling better! 18. I had to have a sleep study as part of my preop requirements and they told me I have sleep apnea. I never would have guessed. I have zero symptoms other than some snoring if I lay on my back which I rarely do. I sleep soundly, wake up rested, no headaches or daytime drowsiness. I can't imagine that I will sleep better with hoses attached to my face, but they won't do my surgery unless I get an apap, so I plan on renting one just long enough for the surgery and a few weeks post op and then returning it. (My insurance covers a 2 month rental then converts to purchase). Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

  22. I was worried about the lack of long term studies on VSG too, but then I came across info about how gastrectomies have actually been done for a long time - just not for obesity. Similar stomach surgeries have been used for years with cancer patients, people with severe ulcers, and other digestive conditions. There are favorable long term studies on those populations, but those studies aren't connected to ones specifically about VSG for weight loss. This isn't a precise summary, but there was one that followed patients in England for many years who had large portions of their stomach removed, and I believe the worst long term outcome was some nutritional deficiency (and this was decades before Vitamin supplements became a widespread practice). If I can find the link I will share it. I believe it was in the forum on here about studies and research. Sent from my LGLS740 using the BariatricPal App
  23. Congrats guys! Hope your recovery goes smoothly. Keep us posted if you can, even if you just need to vent I finally got a date...Aug 11th at Overlake with Dr. Anirban Gupta. 24. I am looking for protein shakes that don't contain artificial sweetners or splenda, but are still bariatric friendly. I guess that leaves stevia?
