    Post op depression

I didnt lose in the first two weeks after surgery and had gained about a pound one week out. It was really frustrating and hard not to be dissappointed, but eventually things picked up and weight started dropping off. I've had plateaus since then (in one right now) and I just have to stay patient and positive, follow the plan, and trust that the scale will move again. I know it's easier said than done, but you can do it! Hope you are feeling better soon. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Exhausted!

I was exhausted for a month after surgery. Your energy will come back but it takes time. Your body has been through a lot. Take care of yourself and get as much sleep and rest as you can - and don't be afraid to ask for help and say no when you need to. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Gerd

Not everyone gets gerd but if you already have issues with heartburn or reflux it can make it worse. I haven't experienced any acid issues yet, but I'm only 3 months out. This site estimates that gerd will impact 45% of vsg patients, but I'm not sure if that included people who already had it. http://www.obesitycoverage.com/uncomplicating-gastric-sleeve-complications/ I've seen estimates that 20% of adults have gerd. 4. 50 lbs. Someone at work just recently stopped me and asked if I had lost weight. It was weird, especially since I don't really "see it yet." I think the bigger you are the more it takes to see a difference. My husband and friends that know about my surgery say they see a change, but I think they are mainly just trying to be encouraging. I have only barely gone down one clothing size.

    Metabolism after VSG

Not sure where in WA you are - where are you going for testing? I've been looking for a place in the Seattle area if you have any suggestions.

    Drinking after eating

It was weird to get used to. I try to make sure I don't have a drink nearby when I eat so I don't mindlessly take a drink. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Sugar free... forever?

I agree with @bufflehead. I'll do real sugar if it is a small amount and it's "worth it" but I try to use other sweeteners for foods that normally are high in sugar. Overall I just avoid sweet stuff. I always hated fake sugar preop. I started trying stevia products, which I find slightly more tolerable. I still don't love it but I can deal with it for certain foods. For example, greek yogurt is such a great source of healthy Protein, but many brands have a ton of sugar! I eat a stevia or splenda version of those. However, to sweeten my morning tea, I use the real thing because I use such a small quantity. Also, I'm trying to see food as fuel, not a primary source of pleasure so eating fake sugar foods is less likely to make me want to overeat them. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    new member

Everyone's experience is a little different, so take all this with a grain of salt. I had surgery 8/11/16. The first few days were painful due to gas pain in my shoulder and soreness at the incision sites, but that is what pain meds are for By week 2 I was feeling much better, though low on energy for the first month. I have lost 28 lbs since surgery. The rate you lose can have a lot to do with your starting bmi and how much you lose prior to surgery (not to mention your genetics, gender, age, activity level, and eating habits). I started at 47 bmi and lost 22 lbs prior to surgery. Now I'm at 38.5 bmi. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Berimelt Vitamins

I bought their Calcium supplement and they are pretty large and chalky (and 1 dose is 2 of them). I prefer the Bariatric Advantage chews for calcium. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

I DONT KNOW HOW TO APPROACH THIS

I think a lot of relationship issues come down to communication. Never assume what the other person is thinking or feeling. You guys might benefit from talking through some things...First, maybe he doesn't really know much about the how the surgery works or the medical issues that contribute to obesity. My husband was hesitant when I first brought up wls, but the more he learned, the more he understood and accepted my decision. Would he be willing to learn more by going to a Drs appt or support group with you? Secondly, you might want to talk more about why he doesn't want you to have the surgery. Is he worried about your health? Is he feeling insecure about you becoming healthier or more attractive? Is he afraid you won't be able to do or enjoy things you used to? Once you each understand more about each other's perspective, you might be able to reach a better understanding. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Not losing weight

It could be worse. I'm 2 months out and I only lost 7 lbs last month. And that is with tracking, counting, measuring, and exercising faithfully. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App
  16. Don't worry, you aren't the only one who feels like they are losing slower than everyone else. I was sleeved one week after you with similar stats - surgery weight 263 now I'm at 239. It is driving me crazy because I stall and stall then lose 2 lb, then stall some more. I thought it would go faster.... But, we just have to be patient and focus on the positives. Like you said, I know that I would never have lost this much in 2 months without the surgery. Stay strong and focused and know that not everyone loses fast. In fact I suspect we are the normal ones. We'll get there eventually! ???? Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

Does it make me a horrible wife

Is it just your husband that irritates you? I find myself getting irritated very quickly post- op. I've always had a short fuse, but normally I'm pretty good keeping it under control but now I snap at every little thing (especially my husband!) It makes sense with all the crazy hormonal shifts our bodies are going through, but it's a real issue to be mindful of. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Still hungry

My nutritionist and I just talked about Snacks. She said that planned nutritious snacks and grazing, mindless snacks are different. If you know you are hungry (not boredom hunger, head hunger, etc) its ok to have a healthy, measured snack that fits within your Protein and calorie goals. Are you eating below your calorie levels or getting a lot of exercise? If so it is not impossible to feel hunger regardless of us having reduced ghrelin production and a smaller stomach. Caffeine

My NUT said it can increase dehydration and a lot of people consume added sugar and fat in their caffeinated beverages, so they tell people to avoid it for the first 2 months post op. Also coffee is very acidic and can increase heartburn/gerd. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

First soup since post op broth

My theory is that it is just air getting trapped in the stomach when you swallow food and it gurgles because all the bubbles have to find a way back out and that movement makes noise. The reason it didn't happen pre-op was because we had huge stomachs with plenty of room for a few air bubbles. Everything wasn't so constricted and they could ease their way out without pressure. They had room group together into a single burp, instead of each bubble getting squeezed out right away. I find it happens less when I eat carefully to avoid swallowing air and gulping. Alcoholism and weight gain

It may not feel like it right now, but you are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Look at what you accomplished before - 40 lbs in 3 months is pretty amazing! I hope you can find the help you need with counseling or a support group. You don't have to do it all alone, but don't forget to give yourself credit for the good things you've done and are capable of doing again. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App

    Head spins

I agree on the possible dehydration. Do you take blood pressure meds? If your pressure gets to low that van cause lightheadedness. When in doubt, always a good idea to let your Dr know. Hope it gets better! Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
