UsernameTaken replied to SueAE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also on May 13th:) What surgery are you having? I am feeling out as well, starting my liquid diet on Friday... Can't believe after all these months of prepping and going through tests and requirements it's crazy that's it's in almost 2 weeks! -

Sleeve or band
UsernameTaken replied to CrissyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had the band for 9 years and am scheduled to have revision to bypass in 2 weeks (omg!) I cannot weight to get it removed and I would also not recommend anyone getting it. Yes some people were successful with it and love it but it seems most are not, I was never a fan of having foreign item in my body but I was too scared to go with bypass the first time around, I wish I did though. The decision is yours but I would not go with band. -
For me the deciding factors were that I have had heartburn issues and sleeve is not good for those that have heartburn, bypass is a gold standard and I have more than 100 lbs I need to lose. My surgeon asked me first if I wanted to do the sleeve, but I did my homework and made my decision which he agreed with.

Thank you so much for posting this, this helps!

Yep I understand the whole eliminating sugar thing but for example after op for the creamy soups and stuff some have more sugar or less or more carbs and less sugar, I know some people have cream of wheat and when I checked the breakdown there was more sugar and carbs so I don't know if that works for some and not others... Weird

@@Doc'sWife and @@Heatherg0907 Glad to share same path with you two. There are definitely more out there like us, i was very happy to find out I was not alone. I am supposed to start liquid diet on Thursday, not looking forward to it but needs to be done. I am also nervous, I will be having 3 in one surgeries, removal, bypass and gallbladder removal, so hope it all goes well and in one and without complications. Will update

Pulled pork always gets stuck for me even without the bun
-
My surgeon said the removal and bypass should be about an hour and half, but will most likely be longer now because of gallbladder, hopefully no other issues...
-
Thank you, my surgeon puts everyone on blood thinners too, I will be on them for 10 days post op - lovenox I believe. I will most likely having my gallbladder removed at the same time so I am not sure how long it will make the surgery and what to expect from recovery... Hope you will start feeling better... Maybe it's certain Protein or food that is not working for you?

@@iwanttobethin Congrats on making it through surgery... So sorry to hear you had to GI bleed.... How did you find out about it? I am having mine on May 13 so just want to know what to look for.

Protein / hair loss
UsernameTaken replied to kellyinkc's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Try collagen protein powder Dr. Axe... It's tasteless you can add to warm drinks and it has lots of benefits, one of them is hair and nails growth. I take it for my join pain but it helps my hair and nails as well. -
Hi all, I'm scheduled for May 13 ( hope I can still join the group since I am revision from band to bypass) I am supposed to start 2 weeks liquid diet on 28th (my dr requires it for all patients)... Not looking forward to it.

8 days out of band to GBR surgery would still sometimes feel hungry
UsernameTaken replied to Tingting Wang's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Has your dietitian approved premier protein? Mine did not ( I know each Doctor might have different requirements) and the reason for it it's because it has fiber which they told me we need to limit after surgery I believe until few weeks later. Have you tried another protein drink to see if that might help? -
Much slower weight loss when revision from lapband to bypass
UsernameTaken replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't had my revision yet, but I would expect the cravings to still be there after surgery, as I have heard many patients say that "they operated on my stomach not brain", brain still wants to do what it had been doing, that's why we have to change our way of looking at food/ relationship with food and learn to make different choices for life so we don't fall back in those bad habits and end up regaining the weight. I know it's easier said than done and i know it's a battle we have to fight all our life. How are you feeling overall? Have you lost anything with the pre op diet? I think 10 lbs being 8 days out is still great! -

How are you doing with your revision?
UsernameTaken posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just want to get some feedback on how things are going for those that had revision from band to bypass (this is what I am going to be getting). What kind of progress are you making, how much weight have you lost since surgery? Loving it or hating it? Missing the band ? (I doubt I will ever miss mine) I keep hearing that weight loss is slower after revision vs those that had bypass first time around. When I talked to my psych about it when I had psych eval he said he does not believe this to be the case, which was pretty encouraging. I am not looking for fast weight loss but my weight loss has been always extremely slow to none, so I am nervous. Thank you for sharing -

Paperwork submitted to Insurance!
UsernameTaken replied to UsernameTaken's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@@kewadiak That's great news! I am getting all my clearances now and just learned that I have gallstones.. So now I am hoping they can do revision and gallbladder removal at the same time.. Will find out what my pre op with surgeon in 9th. Really hope I will wake up and not have to be disappointed that they couldn't do it in one.. I feel like so much to get done, but all I have left is upper GI and chest X-ray, then just blood work and EKG 2 weeks before surgery. Liquid diet starts on 28th... That's next week! Crazyness. I get so much more nervous as it gets closer to the date. -
My surgeons office called me today to let me know they sent everything to insurance for review. I'm excited and nervous.... Hoping for approval!

Hi all, Does anyone have experience with having their gallbladder removed at the same time of initial surgery or revision? How did it go and how are you feeling now? Recovery? Found out today I have gallstones so hoping they can remove it at the same time so I don't have to go under twice. Thanks!

It's about 10 lbs a month, I think it's awesome! If I lose this way I will be more than happy. You are doing great job, keep on up! How much more do you want to lose? I am starting liquid diet on 28th, can believe how fast time is going by.. Found out today I have gallstones so might be getting my gallbladder removed at the revision time. Hopefully. -
Band to Bypass Revision Success for Super Obese?
UsernameTaken replied to Daenerys Targaryen's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My surgeo told me that the sleeve really operates on the same proviso of the band which is Restriction. The bp is if course restrictive but there us no valve at the bottom to create that pressure. The worst thing with the band is the feeling if hunger. Because that sectioned off stomach was ready and waiting for food that just never arrives!!! I felt restricted but always hungry. Stupid concept. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App That is exactly one of the things that was difficult for me with band as well, being stuck at the top and the rest of the stomach is growling in hunger pains -
LapBand removal on April 25th, 2016.
UsernameTaken replied to WW0747's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon does it in one procedure however he said if there is erosion he will have to have the stomach heal and then do bypass. Really hope won't be the case for me because i just want to get it done and over with so I can start healing. -
@@jnt1 Hi and congrats on taking the big step. I haven't had my revision yet (scheduled for May 13) so I can't really tell you much, but just wanted to say you are definitely not alone. I felt that same way... And even right now I am also terrified of this revision but I am determined to go through with it and make it work. Best of luck to you as well... It's just around the corner are you on liquid diet right now? I am supposed to start mine on 28th. Not too thrilled lol but needs to be done
