I didn't get pureed until week 3! I enjoyed chicken salad, tuna salad, scrambled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt, refried Beans with cheese, tilapia, and thicker pureed Soups.

The extreme reaction was your body telling you it is no longer used to eating an entire batch of Chocolate Pudding!

I was prescribed Omeprazole twice daily for the first 3 months. I still take one daily. I agree with everyone above, a good practice is to not eat anything within an hour or two before bed, and I always drink a glass of Water between my last meal and bedtime. I had several episodes of reflux about 2 months out when I skipped the Omeprazole. You are right, it is scary and disgusting. Since about month 4-5 I only take one a day and if I skip it I don't have any night-time reflux... so the body seems to be adjusting. I still take ONE daily because when I don't my stomach gets burpy, rumbly, and I feel like I am starving with hunger all day.

I have read people getting a "drain", does everyone get a "drain"

No drain here. -
Oh my Protein, how I love you let me count the ways....but I am Traveling?
liannatx replied to M!@'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A side of Scrambled eggs is always good for Breakfast. appetizers of shrimp cocktail or bacon wrapped scallops are more than enough for a meal. lunch or dinner options usually have some version of a petite sirloin or grilled chicken breast with broccoli. Most restaurants have at least a few decent options if you just look at the Protein with some broccoli, green Beans, or asparagus... and skip the bread and rice/potato. Personally, I still take some of the single serve packets of Syntrax nectar... or stop at any convenience store and pick up a Muscle Milk (or any with decent protein/low carb ratio) ready-to-drink... and have that for breakfast to start the day. I don't really like the Muscle Milk, but I can suck it up and drink one if that is what's available. -
Food ideas for week 1
liannatx replied to krups618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
liquids? Isopure makes a clear Ready-to-Drink that is tolerable/good flavors mixed about half and half with Water. It has 40g Protein per bottle. If you don't need to have "clear" Protein drinks, Syntrax Nectars have a powder mix that is very good, and is whey Protein Isolate with 24 g Protein, 0 carb, and about 100 calories. -
Prior Abdominal Surgery
liannatx replied to Emma73538's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cant imagine why a prior abdominal surgery would make this a non-viable surgery for you. Many sleevers have had prior open/lap surgeries! My surgeon said that for him this was the equivalent of a dentist doing an extraction... what he was trained for, and not overly complicated (for him). He removed my lapband, and he had to enter and deal with a crapload of scar tissue and adhesions. Adhesions from the stomach to the port, all around where the port was adhered to the ab wall, my port had adhesions to my liver, etc... These surgeons are good at what they do, he was probably just cautioning you on the "chance" that some unknown might interfere. Hang in there and don't let the stress worries get to you! You will have this surgery, and do fine! -
Are my supplements okay?
liannatx replied to Cheeselife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started off taking a Multi, Biotin, B complex, and Calcium Citrate w D for the first 3 months. I think these are commonly recommended. My labs have always came back good. Before surgery I took a Multi daily, so it wasn't hard to add a few others.. I have also added a coq10, and Omegas daily. -
After Surgery Diarrhea

Yep, liquid in liquid out. It will stop with more full liquids or purees. -
Will aspirin and reflux stop my journey?
liannatx replied to tbella67's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good question for your surgeon... I don't know if either issue is an automatic elimination of surgery choice. I have had acid issues and reflux with the sleeve, but only if I don't take a PPI. It wouldn't bother me any if I had to keep taking a PPI every day... small price to pay. I took Omprezole twice a day the first several months, but one a day works now and sometimes I forget and skip that. -
60 lbs down and my beloved Cacique bras just ride up my back... the straps don't even tighten enough to not fall off my shoulders, and the band is too loose. Got 2 new ones, just basic black and mocha.... Cant wait for better support! Better yet, I got the one for 50% off and an extra 20% off the total for using my e-mail! I miss my collection of pretty bras, but my niece has most of them now.... along with most of my prior wardrobe. It is a NSV that these huge things are shrinking along with my body!

@Cervidae You will most likely lose from the bottom then...thighs, hips, waist. Different bodies, different loss!
-
If they are too big, losing some of that is NOT a loss, but a step in being more proportionate...

Well done! I didn't lose 20 the first month! I am a happy turtle.

Why liquids for weeks after surgery? Did anyone cheat ?
liannatx replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of your stomach has been surgically removed. There is a long incision line... liquids should be common sense post surgery. The incision needs to heal. Solid foods and the digestion process are too rough on the incision line. -
Looking for Plication revision to Sleeve
liannatx replied to lguidry's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have no idea how plication scar tissue distributes. I know I had so much from my band and port, over a 9 year span, that my records say that the doctor literally "excavated through scar tissue and adhesions" to locate my port, and he told me he "gouged a trough through the scar tissue" on my stomach wall in prep for my sleeve surgery. He removed what he needed to do the revision, and 9 months later I am still happy and healthy. If I could do any surgery once... it would be the sleeve. Is this is any help? -
Heartburn and Acid are the same thing... A PPI like generic Omeprazole will help. He should ask his primary Dr or surgeon, they will most likely give a RX.

How long after surgery will I be bedridden, or able to drive
liannatx replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It wont be much different than when you were banded. 2-3 days of sleep and pain meds, and every day after that just better and better. I was back at work on day 7. -

Is it possible to lose too much?
liannatx replied to staceface09's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you at goal weight? I think that you will certainly lose some during the clear and full liquid stages. But at a lower weight the calorie deficit wont be as dramatic, and the loss shouldn't be either. I would think that once you are on solids you should be able to reach a calorie goal that would maintain your weight. If you don't need to lose any more you could use full fat foods like milk, cottage cheese, meats, etc... A little healthy carbs, some non-sugarfree foods, and it wouldn't be too hard to keep the calories up. The Sleeve itself is not mal-absorptive and only works with what you eat calorie and nutrition wise. -
