Drinking between meals after first few months
liannatx replied to Jessica Radcliff's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have 4 flavors of Crystal Light packets/tubes in a Ziplock baggie, and 2 bottles of Mio type stuff, in my desk at work. If I am tired of water I fill my insulated tumbler from the Water cooler and drink one of those. I took all those water flavorings to work because at home I usually just drink water, because I still love water... but I also want something different sometimes too! -
Typical 1 week loss?
liannatx replied to vickylyn1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on start weight, BMI, age, sex, etc... Weightloss numbers will vary. I gained 6-7 lbs from fluids and took a few days to lose that... I ended up losing 6 lbs the first week and 6 the next week, so I lost 12 lbs in the first two weeks. -
Sleeve June 8th, son'a graduation June 27
liannatx replied to allyray's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Cross your fingers ladies, and hope you have an easy recovery! I was able to reach my Protein and Water goals by day 3... then each day after was just way better. I was back to work in one week. I had some lingering soreness and tiredness, but otherwise felt great. It is hard to predict how anyone will recover... I figured I would bounce back fast because I have after other surgeries. -
Glad you are feeling good! I also felt really good by the end of the first week. The largest incision on the left was my sorest one. I believe they do the most maneuvering in that incision and it is the one they remove the stomach through. It was the last one to retain any soreness also... it had some soreness for weeks. As long as you have no fever or abnormal redness/inflammation it is most likely just the internal stitches, nerves and muscles healing. As for calories, you wont really be getting many until you start working purees and solids into your diet. My surgeon had no calorie goal to reach the first weeks... just getting in all my fluids and Protein. My 3 Protein drinks and liquids put me around 400-500 calories at that stage. Are you on Clear Liquids? Are you supposed to be getting a certain amount of calories? You could always have a Gatorade or some juice if you need get a certain amount.

Did anyone gain on purée?
liannatx replied to KM1284's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was SOOO so ready for some purees! I wasn't worried about gaining... I think moving from liquids to purees changed my calories from 500 daily to 600 daily, nothing dramatic. I dropped my lunch Protein drink in exchange for 2 oz of chicken salad and a mid-day 2 oz snack of cottage cheese... it almost equals out. Same thing with dinner. It would be hard to gain on the amounts you will be able to consume! Just follow your plan... it works. What actually caused my loss to stall was consuming too few calories. Six weeks post-op I stalled until got my calories up to 700-800....then started losing again. -
222.3 lbs. Yay! My little stall is truly broke!

Eating Regular Jello
liannatx replied to Proud2BMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it were me, I would drink a second Gatorade before I would eat the full sugar Jello. It won't be such a sugar load if it is spread out in sips over the course of an hour or two. Does a jello even have many calories? I have no idea if this is medically sound advice, LOL.... but I was thinking that some people do drink watered down apple juice and such post-op. -

When can you start having Protein drinks? That is what made the difference for me. -
Artificial Sweeteners / Who uses what?
liannatx replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It does have a slight taste to it, but I think I am used to it. I don't think it is licorice.... I hate licorice, lol. -
Artificial Sweeteners / Who uses what?
liannatx replied to Miss Mac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I use Stevia. I use one packet in my coffee, and that is pretty much the extent of what I use daily. Plus whatever sweetener they use in Syntrax Nectars... I know it isn't Aspartame. -

When did your fatigue stop?
liannatx replied to MassageMini's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt great after the first week, but like you I had the fatigue and overly tired feeling. I started getting more energy back the second week when I was able to get in all my Protein and start taking Vitamins... I was on full liquids then and think the smidgen of extra calories helped too. I had a really easy recovery, I think it just varies for everyone. -
I'm considering going from a sleeve ( i have a leak) to a Bypass.
liannatx replied to losinghope15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me personally....If I were going through all that and having the Bypass would fix it, I would revise to it as soon as they could schedule it. -
What was your first food?
liannatx replied to ShrinkingPeach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I recall it was chicken salad or refried Beans.... I ate the heck out of both the week I was allowed purees! I still love chicken salad for lunch, I eat it several times a week. -
4 weeks post and I still PB
liannatx replied to thecakewasalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know if I eat too fast I will still slime. I don't spit up food, but I will spit up the jellyfish like stuff LOL. I think us former bandsters do good on chewing food well, but I really did have to train myself to wait a few minutes in between actual bites. It is better at 2 months than it was at one month, so it may also have to do with residual swelling/healing. -
How many incisions do you have? I have 7! Don't know why so many!
liannatx replied to Lbsgonzo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have 5, and 3 of them are very small...less than half an inch. -
I am a successful revision. My band was not attached to my liver, but I had lots of scar tissue and adhesions attached to my liver. My surgeon cleaned out all the scar tissue and adhesions but was not willing to do sleeve at that time. I healed up and went back and had an easy surgery and a quick easy recovery. I have seen several other successful band/sleeve revisions after lapband damage... several that post here.

Newbie - How do I choose?
liannatx replied to Shakti's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Research both carefully. Some surgeons don't even do the Lapband anymore though, because of the high rate of complications. I had lapband and was happy with it for years until it slipped on me. By the time I had it removed I had massive scar tissue and adhesions that had to be removed before my surgeon could do the revision to Sleeve. Everyone that was in my original Lapband group has had it removed now due to erosion, slippage, or just scar tissue build up. I personally wish I had just done the Sleeve to begin with. -

Is lexapro causing slow losing?
liannatx replied to aubrey222's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you meeting your Protein and Fluid goals? If you rarely eat that may be why the loss has stopped. -
Looking for suggestions for broths...
liannatx replied to djay210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Swanson flavor infused broths. They have Mexican tortilla, Chinese hot & sour, and Tuscan chicken. I wouldn't get too much of anything... you can always buy more as you need it. I found that I really didn't do much broth, and I still have a stockpile of flavored bullion cubes. Once I had my Protein drinks in I was more about sipping on flavored waters. -
Yum! I will have to try this. I love cauliflower, and I love to make it into a mock stuffed potato casserole... so good!

10 lbs in 2 weeks is great. Are you cleared to be working out this soon?
