Hi! This is my first post. I've enjoyed reading through all the fabulous posts. I'm posting now because I have my first WLS visit with the Surgeon on 1/7/2016. A little about me. Divorced for 8 years. Two grown children who are happily off living their own lives. I work full time as a nightshift RN. Three 12 hour shifts a week plus the occasional OT. I've been off and on about having WLS. I actually filled out the online application a year ago but canceled the appt. I ignored my weight for yet another year. When my clothes got tighter, my energy level tanked, my knees/back hurt and I was breathless climbing a flight of stairs, I got back on the scale and saw the 25 more pounds I had gained over the year. That was it. I did some serious research and I called in November and made the appt. I won't be changing my mind this time. I feel like I've been dieting my whole life. Every diet known, I've given it a whirl. I've had some success. I lost 50 lbs right after I got divorced. Stress and revenge might have been factors there. Ha. I kept it off a bit but I piled it back on and more eventually. I'm 54, 5'2 and about 225 lbs. I'm going to wait for my official weigh in at my appt to be official starting weight. This is not the heaviest I've been but it's close. I don't have a lot of comorbidities. Hypothyroidism. If all goes well, I should have surgery in June or July. I'm leaning toward the gastric sleeve but I'm open to gastric bypass if that's what the Surgeon feels is best for me. So here's to 2016. Happy New Year, Happy new me.

This is my month and my year!

I had 2 endoscopes done. Six weeks apart because the first found a small duodenal ulcer and a large hiatal hernia. After weeks of meds, the second endoscopy showed the ulcer had healed. I finish my supervised diet on 5/1. Paperwork for Insurance approval will be sent right after that. The Surgeon scheduled me (tentatively) for 6/1. I've lost 30 lbs on the supervised diet and that moves me to a BMI of lower than 40 now. I hope that doesn't screw up the approval. -
LuckyVitamin.com sells the Isopure zero carb bottles at a good price. I like the iced tea and coconut flavors. Have them shipped to me a dozen at a time.

All are so inspiring! Thanks for posting.

Hi @@Zasha069! Dr. Yoo is my Surgeon too. My Surgery is scheduled for 6/1. How has your experience been so far?

Really @@jeanfun? That seems so unfair! We've all probably lost 100s of pounds over and over again and gained even more.'WLS is that tool to help you keep it off. -
My journey so far. Still PreOp--

@@~Pam~64~ I feel you, girl! I only have a 3 month supervised diet requirement. I'll be done 5/1. I struggle sometimes too. I work 12 hour Nightshifts 3x a week so my eating and sleeping patterns are not so normal. There are constantly Snacks and sweets in the Nurse's workroom. Almost every Shift!!! I think about why I want to and am willing to subject my body to permanent surgical intervention whenever I feel like I'm slipping into unhealthy eating habits. I keep a goal/wish list on my phone. It has pictures of dresses I want to fit in, things I want to try post op (like zip lining). And yes, I have a picture of me at my highest weight on there too. These months are my jumpstart towards my new life and new healthy weight. At first, it felt like punishment. "Why couldn't I just have the surgery right away? I don't want to do it on my own! If I could lose weight on my own, I'd have done it by now! " Now I realize how smart the supervised pre op diet truly is. I'm creating a new relationship with food. I am accountable to myself. And every pound lost on my own is a personal victory. I've lost 30 lbs since Jan 7th. And that's 30 lbs I don't have to lose with surgery. And most importantly it's given me the confidence that I can be a successful post op patient. -
Seriously need help meeting goals

I love the Isopure zero carb drinks. Coconut and the Lemon Tea are my favs. I've been drinking them during my pre op diet. I've lost 30 lbs since January. -
Endoscopy on Thursday. I've had a colonoscopy in the past but never an endoscopy. I don't like the idea of something down my throat. Makes me a little panicky. How is the procedure?
-
Any advice or encouragement!

Woohoo. Home from my repeat Endoscopy and my duodenal ulcer has fully healed! Surgeon said: "let's get you approved and we'll do your Surgery on June 1st!!!" I finish the insurance required supervised diet on May 1st so he'll submit right after that! I'm so relieved!!!!
-
Yeah! Thanks!
-
Time for the repeat endoscopy. Hopefully, by tomorrow afternoon I'll have the good news that my ulcer has healed!

Best of luck!![emoji106]????[emoji106]???? -
Do you think you can be successful without a support person? I like to think that I am my own support through this as I am in the other aspects of my life. I worry though that I will be making such a major change solo.

I'm 54. Doing the required 3 month pre op supervised diet now. Surgery end of May or beginning of June. Lost 27 pounds since January! -
You can do it! I'm in my last month of the 3 month pre op diet requirement. I'm 54. Getting close to that moment of sending everything off for insurance approval. Funny, I'm more nervous about the approval than the surgery right now.

Anxious now that 6 mos doc visit is up
Lemm61 replied to Jade99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the last month of my 3 month supervised diet. They'll submit for insurance approval on May 2nd. I do have to have a repeat Endoscopy at the end of April. Surgeon found an ulcerated area in my small intestine and a large hiatal hernia. On my meds now for the ulcer. Hope they work as no surgery for me with an ulcer. I'm trying not to stress too much about that, especially since stress is bad for ulcers! On the plus side, I've lost 27 lbs on my own so far. -
I'm 5'2". I was 115 lbs when I got married at 21. At my age (54), I would look skeletal. I'm shooting for 130. Surgery, hopefully, June 1.
-
Yep @@pattyoj, that's where I'm at too. I hate that the ulcer issue will bump the surgery back a month, maybe more. Boo.
-
Look at you rocking the skinny jeans! Woohoo!

I worry about this too. My hair is sort of my signature look. Big, red, curly. BUT, I worry more about the chronic health issues, aches and pains, depression that comes with obesity. I just put it in perspective and keep looking at the big life picture!
