  1. Day 3 post-op. I'd love to know how to get this disgusting taste out of my mouth. Post-op guide says no gum. It's weird because I'm not hungry, but I want to chew something just to get this awful taste out. I'm assuming my breath is pretty rank, too, although I haven't asked anyone to confirm that [emoji23]. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Anyone found a good solution for this?

    Keto

Anyone start eating keto right out of the gate? Like as soon as you were off of soft foods, etc? I'm still a few weeks away from the normal diet phase, but I'm not thrilled about the idea of living off of sugar-free/fat-free products. I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to tolerate the fats associated with keto, so I'm curious what others' experiences have been.

    Keto

Glad to see so many people are doing this. I was sleeved 3 weeks ago and have been enjoying eggs with cheese. Lox with cream cheese. Tuna or egg salad with mayo. I ate an avocado plain and it upset my stomach. I even did bullet proof coffee. I still do a protein shake mixed with cold cinnamon coffee, even though they don't encourage whey protein on keto. I can't choke down a protein shake by itself anymore though. I might be ruined from all the protein shakes ???? I also started walking today. I don't even think about bread or sugar really. I think I've just told myself that those are foods that don't fit into my lifestyle anymore. So far so good!
  4. From the date of my surgery to when I went back to work it was 13 days total. Was probably perfect for me.
  5. Gas pain for me was hardly noticeable. It just felt like normal gas.

    It's done...

2 weeks and 2 days post op. It feels like I had surgery a month ago, other than the scabs on my tummy [emoji4] I can drink water no problem. Only thing that has really irritated my tummy so far is avocado. Almost gave me instant heart burn. I hope it's not permanent because I LOVE avocado. I've tried mozarella. Olives. Cream cheese. Eggs, scrambled and over medium. Colby/jack cheese. Egg salad. Tuna salad. Mayo with both. All have been fine. I do find that my taste for certain foods have definitely changed. I would really love to have some cooked meat and veggies. I might be trying out some crockpot chicken and veggies. Protein shakes are basically gag-inducing at this point. I'm just glad that I am tolerating pretty much all foods so far. Oh and I'm down 27 lbs from the start of my pre-op liquid diet [emoji4] so that's 4 weeks and 2 days ago! HW 267 SW 253 CW 240

    Post-op Pain

I'd say days 2-3. Probably 3 because that was my first full day at home without the glorious IV dropping pain mess into my system. But it really significantly improved every day. Day 10 now and I feel great.
  8. I'm curious if anyone was advanced by their doctor to the next stage of their post-op diet before the original timeline. I.e. Advanced from full liquids to puree before 2 weeks?

    Post-op diet

Yeah, I was moved from the liquids to purée after 10 days, when I was initially told 2 weeks. Cant say I was complaining though! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Good to know. I just feel like I'm tolerating everything really well, and would love to try a scrambled egg or something other than liquid. Obviously don't want to damage anything, but I know some docs advance their WLS patients quickly. I'm struggling over here When's your next apt? I'm supposed to advance in 5 days. I just find myself putting off the Protein shakes now. Having a hard time just choking down one of them. Yeah they get old after a while. What kind are you doing? This is HARD

I was told only low impact (walking, elliptical, etc) for 6 weeks. My surgery date was 12/21 [emoji4]

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Were you eventually able to tolerate sausage? Or do you find that you still have that problem?

    Anyone from Chicago

So far so good [emoji4] came home on Thursday. Friday wasn't so fun... pain, a little nausea. Yesterday was much better, and today even better [emoji4]

    Anyone from Chicago

Chicago area as well. I had my surgery on Wed 12/21 with Dr. Lufti at St. Joseph's [emoji4]

    53 lbs down. Comparison pics.

Yay! How long ago was your surgery?

    Sleeping

Mine didn't say, and I've been sleeping on my side.
  19. It's normal to be scared/nervous. I was fine until they brought me in for surgery prep. Pretty much cried right up until they knocked me out. Of course I was fine once I woke up [emoji23]

    Starting to 2nd think!

I am 5'5" and just had surgery on Wed. I was originally scheduled for July and backed out. I regretted not doing the surgery after about a month. If you really want to lose the weight, then do it for yourself and don't let the chatter cause you to 2nd guess your decision.
  21. I honestly don't think it was one moment; but I used to be athletic and cute [emoji23] I injured my ankle and the weight just packed on after that. I didn't want to go out with friends anymore. Had no interest in dating. No energy for activities with my son. Summer of 2015, at 260 lbs, I could not get on a ride a Six Flags. I was embarrassed, and my son was pissed (not at me, but at the park for not making rides to accommodate fat people). For the first time, earlier this year, I needed a seatbelt extender on a flight from Chicago to Boston. I'm single, so I also noticed that men began to look right through me, or avoid eye contact altogether (not that I want attention like that, but in my cuter days I'd at least get eye contact and a smile lol). I just began to realize that I couldn't be myself in the body I was in. I hated looking around a room to realize I'm the fattest one in it. The constant back and neck pain. I stopped having my period. Constant headaches. Brain fog. Honestly, the list is too long to drill it down to a single moment. I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired. And I became lonely. And I felt like I was letting son down. I'm still struggling with knowing that I can't eat 4 tacos in one sitting, because... well... duh, tacos are amazing, but I'm excited to begin learning how to love foods that will love me back [emoji7]

    It's done...

I'm 3 days post op [emoji4] and yes 34 is YOUNG! I'm supposed to try a protein shake today, but I'm a bit reluctant since I have been experiencing a little bit of nausea with just water... but I'm just going to sip slow and hopefully everything stays down [emoji15] One of my incisions is pretty uncomfortable, with some swelling and redness. Hopefully it calms down so I don't have to go have it checked or re-dressed [emoji21] I probably shouldn't be checking the scale yet, but I am down 2 lbs from my surgery weight so I was happy to see that! Not going to lie though, I bounce back and forth between regret and knowing how much happier/healthier I'll be once the really hard/painful part is over. It's definitely a mental challenge.

    It's done...

Hi guys! I had my surgery on 12/21, came home on 12/22 (yesterday). Everything seems to be going smoothly! Only felt nauseous once after taking liquid pain medication today, which passed pretty quickly. I think the worst part of surgery was that I wasn't allowed to even rinse my mouth with Water until the day after my surgery. Also my lips were cut up from the breathing tube. As of today, no hunger and not too much gas pain, although chicken broth has never tasted so good . I took my bandages off in the shower today, and just one of the incisions is a bit more tender and swollen than the others. Hope everyone is doing well! XOXO Casie
  25. WELP. I started this process back in May of this year. I was all set for my surgery date in July... and I chickened out about 3 days before surgery. Fast forward a few months and I found out my insurance is changing at the first of the year and I would have to go through a new approval process. So I decided to just do it, and I'm officially having surgery on Dec 21. Starting my liquid diet tomorrow. At least I know how that will go, right?! Lol. If there are any other Nov-Dec sleevers in the NW Chicago area, I'd love to connect!
