I had my surgery on 10/12/16 and, so far, am down 112 pounds. As I put on some of my clothes that clearly need to be replaced I have begun to wonder... Any Scouters on here who have had weight loss surgery? I am Cubmaster of Pack 1683 in Springfield, VA as well as an Assistant Roundtable Commissioner, District Lion Coordinator and the Council Lion Champion. I have three uniforms... all of which are way to big but getting a new uniform is as big of an investment as getting a new suit (especially if you have lots of patches to be sewn on).

So I have just recently started this journey. I did the webinar last week and had my first apt with the surgeon on Monday. They originally told me that I was going to have to do a 3 months of pre-op diet and meeting with the dietitian. They just talked to my insurance company and found out that I have to do SIX MONTHS! UGH!!! It just seems like such a long time! What did you guys have to do to get pre-authorized by insurance?

Going through the same thing. My slacks are all bunched up once I cinch my belt down. Not ready to invest in a new wardrobe yet but its just gonna get worse. Hoping to hit some thrift stores etc soon

So I had my consult on January 4th and started all of the nutrition classes etc that was needed by AFTRA H&R. They submitted my paperwork in late July and after a denial (missing form) I have now been told that I have been approved. However, the insurance company has said that I have to have surgery no later than October 12th. I did not anticipate this but now, all of the sudden, I am scared SHITLESS!!! That is less than a month away and have 5 appointments between now and then. The appointments are going to make life difficult at home (my wife is having non-bariatric surgery this week) and at work. Part of me wants to bag it all and say that I will do it later once my insurance changes in January. My total out of pocket from here on out is about $1800 and that freaks me out too... Anyone else get cold feet??

Maybe this is the subject for another thread... but had anybody hid that they had surgery? I have not talked with a lot of people about what my surgery is. A few close friends know but coworkers and folks in my Cub Scout group just know that I need to have surgery soon.

So my insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised diet before my surgeon can submit for approval. I am not sure what I was expecting but I have to say that what I am getting is not what I expected. Its just a class where the nutritionist talks about food, exercise, snacking etc. I feel like I should be getting more out of all of this. I see guys on here who loose a nice bit of weight pre-op, I have maybe lost 5 pounds since starting in January. What was your insurance required diet like?

Just sharing my experience... I gave up soda and caffeine once really just to see if I could. After 6 months I had not lost any weight, did not have any kind of withdrawals and did not feel any better at all. Didn't have more (or less) energy, didn't sleep any better (or worse). Isn't that odd??

*MALE ONLY* How long did it take you to get your approval from insurance?

Right now I am a 48/50. Would love to get back to a 32 but will be happy to put on a pair of 38s! -
OMG! I am realizing how lucky I am that my out of pocket limit is so low. There is no way I could afford that!

I am in the most preliminary steps of surgery. I did an info session last night and scheduled a doctors appointment for Monday. As I was researching I was looking for info about men who have had the surgery which is what brought me here. Now my wife and I have recently had a nice upswing in our bedroom activities but after reading this I can't wait! I have a gorgeous wife and I hate that I lose my erection so easily. Its embarrassing and I don't get to do everything I would like to. The thought of having the surgery is scary but this is a definite benefit!!
