Hello Everyone!
I am new to the community. I've read through some of the posts over the last few weeks even before deciding to join and find it comforting to know that I am not alone in this process. I am an introvert so it is easier for me to open up like this than in face-to-face situations.
I finally made the tough decision this summer to have weight loss surgery--duodenal switch. I had a tragic experience in my immediate family a few years back that basically made me fear the idea of bariatric surgery for a long while. I had to come to terms with the loss and understand that the untimely death of my sister was due to major medical issues she was already facing when she decided to undergo weight loss surgery to help reduce her weight so that the other issues could be addressed. Unfortunately, although the surgery was a success, it was too much stress on her body and she eventually passed away about 8 months after her surgery. I have decided I want to address my obesity issue while I am still relatively healthy.
My surgery date is February 2, 2016. To get a head start on the process, I have been trying to stick to about 1300 calories a day, 80 g of protein, and 64 oz of water. To condition myself for the transition, I eat small meals every 3 hours with the first within 1 hour of waking up, drink 2 oz of water ever 15 minutes except 30 minutes before, during, and 30 after a meal. The surgeon also has me taking a multi-vitamin, Iron, Calcium, and D.
