    Lap band and autoimmune?

Hi Pixie. I have MS and will be banded in two weeks. I asked my neuro about having this done and he said to be prepared for a possible relapse, but he's all for anything that will help me feel better and if that means my hips won't ache as much with less weight, so be it. Just make sure to stop taking any meds the doc wants you to stop prior to surgery. For instance, I can no longer take my Celebrex, which worries me a little, but I'll do it. Good luck to you. Talk to your Rheumatologist.
  2. Each Dr is different and their requirements are different going into banding as well. I am currently on a 4 week liquid pre-op diet and doing well. My Dr. normally has people do a sleep study, but I did not have to either.

    American Idol '08

I haven't read ahead yet so forgive me if it's already been posted but, that song was also on Scrubs 100th episode entitled "My Way Home", which Zach Braff directed. Obviously I'm a fan of Scrubs!
  6. Thank you everyone for your valuable information! When I finally get mine on the 28th, I'll try to remember to walk walk walk walk and then walk some more. No one wants gas pains in the shoulder area. Good luck everyone who is yet to go.

    I have a complaint!

My apologies! I had not seen those.
  8. Try eating a banana, I know it's helped me in the past.

    I'm a bandster now!

Thank you Kim I appreciate the information. I'm leaning towards having her come out for a day or two. Hope all goes well for you!

    I'm a bandster now!

Congratulations. Awesome barely any pain! I'm wondering how much assistance at home you've needed. I was told I can't lift more than 15 pounds and won't be allowed back to work (I sit all day, big deal) until after my checkup with the Dr one week later. I'm divorced with a 14 yr old and 2.5 yr old, both boys at home. So, I'm debating on having my 18 yr old neice to come help out, as long as I lock up my valuables.

    Need to Promote

I'm a donor too. When my mom died 2 years ago, we tried to donate her organs but were turned down because she didn't totally go brain dead from her brain stem hemorrage. We were however, able to donate her bones and eyes. We even got a letter stating that children were getting her bones and her eyes were being used as well.

    Any "Last meals?"

I thought I was going to do a "one last meal" thing but it's turning into a "one last WEEK" of feasting. I start my liquid 3.5 week diet on Saturday so today at work, everyone ordered pizza so I'm partaking. Tomorrow night, the girls from my "Motherless Daughters" group are coming over and we each a sharing our favorite bottle of wine, a movie and a snack: chips/dip, brownies and ice cream. Oy, I'm looking forward to 3 1/2 weeks of nothing but liquid diet. lol

    Advice? Going to file....

I agree with Kat! I just divorced in July. Our son was just over one year old when I filed. According to Friend of the Court (the one who determines visitation, custody and child support), a child cannot separate themselves from their primary caretaker emotionally until they reach roughly 3 or so years of age. you shouldn't have any problems with retaining custody.

    Packing for the hospital?

Hmm, what to bring? I like the laptop idea and the mp3 idea, I never would have thought of those. Besides the usual toiletries, I think my own pjs and robe and slippers even though the hospital has their own ugly ones, crossword puzzles, word finds, notebook and pen and my meds. I too have to be overnight. At least it'll be a nice (?) break from my kids.

4/30 and I'm not freaking out!

I'm getting banded 2 days before you and, like you, I feel completely at peace with my decision. I have tons of questions but feel good that I'm getting it done. I hope we both stay that way!
  19. Great topic! I'd like to go to my 14 yr old's baseball games and not be the biggest mom there anymore. I'd like to play with my 2 year old and when he's napping not nap too. I'd like to wear my old clothes and I won't even care that they're years out of style! lol I'd like to not hide my booty but show it off. I'd like to flirt once again and not look like an idiot. ie: more self-confidence

    In Lansing, anyone use Sparrow?

Did you have just one overnight stay at Sparrow? How long were you off work? And, last question, why do you have to be at Sparrow on Thursdays? sorry for all the questions.

My 1 Month Progress and Pics!

You look mah-velous! :cursing: What kind of pre-op diet did you do? I'm starting my pre-op on Friday, liquid Optifast diet, so I'm just curious. Great idea on measuring everything, I'll have to remember to do that.
  22. I'm happy, had to share. I've got my surgery date set for April 28th. I start 4 weeks of Optifast next Monday. I hope I drop 20 in those 4 weeks, but I won't hold my breath.

    M.S. & Banding

I also have MS and a few days ago got my surgery date. When I approached my family doc about weight-loss surgery, he told me both he and I needed my neuro to sign off saying it was okay for me to have surgery. My neuro said i *could* have a flare but then again I probably won't. He pretty much briefed me on the possible complications but was all for me doing whatever will make me feel better. Talk to you neuro and see what he/she has to say. I'm getting banded on April 28th. What convinced me to go with the band instead of bypass was the malabsorption issues with bypass. Good luck!

    In Lansing, anyone use Sparrow?

I start the pre-op on Thursday April 3rd, then have to go to the group meetings every Thursday in April. I guess I'm only doing 3.5 weeks of pre-op diet, so I won't complain! Congratulations on the 15 lbs! That's excellent news. Did you cheat AT ALL while on Optifast? Did you do 'one last meal'? I'm getting banded at 10am. what time were you banded? If in the morning like me, how soon beforehand did you have to be at sparrow? I'm sorry for all the questions, I don't go to SWMC until next week and hopefully then I'll remember my questions for them. lol

Just found out I'll be having surgery on April 28th. How did you 4 week Optifast go and more importantly, how did your surgery go?
