  1. Happy 48th Birthday PeeJay1031!

  2. Hi Francine, I had this same concern as far as nsaids. My surgeon's PA said that the moratorium on nsaids was a carryover from RNY's, sleeves, and other more invasive surgerys because of the risk of ulcers at their incision points. I haven't heard anything about aspirin eroding the band, but forbdding nsaids didn't make any sense to me since the internal makeup of the stomach isn't changing. Just the shape. I noticed that a lot of the initial info I got from my docs office and insurance company were kneejerk warnings that apply to bypass, not the band. That said, I think, as someone else said, you should consult in depth more with your docs office and your other physicians. Pharmacists even have a lot of insight into these things. Peej

    Meds For Joint Pain

I asked my surgeon's PA this exact same question. I have been taking aleve every day for my knees and was wondering about a substitute because of what I've been reading on the boards about nsaids. She said that the moratorium on nsaids actually should apply to only RNY's, sleeves and the like because they are prone to ulcers at their incision points. I've also read elsewhere that if you take the nsaid with something that decreases the stomach acid that you'd be OK. I'm really confused. I'd hate to give up the relief I get fom aleve but don't want to take chances on ulcers, either. Peej

    Partially collapsed lung

I've been kind of paranoid about pneumonia, but hadn't thought about a collapsed lung! I have pain when I take a deep breath and every minutes I get this wierd hitch when I breath, kind of like a really deep hiccup. I hope you get better soon. Peej
  5. The gas didn't bother me so much at the hospital. I think sleeping/sitting on the inclined bed might have helped a bit. When I got home, though, oh my! It felt as though if someone poked me w/a pin I'd pop. I was given liquid oxycodone and it did help the gas pain a bit, but not long enough for me to get a full nights sleep. I'm catching up on my reading. I do have to say that its about 50% less painful today. Peej

    Minnesota Folks-Where are you?

Hi all, My name is Peej and I'm in Mpls/Uptown area. My surgery will be at U of M Fairview on 4/22/08. I can't believe it took me so long to find this group! Take care, Peej
  7. I also plan not to tell any of my co-workers. My officemate tends to get preachy and overhelpful with the 'suggestions' regarding weight and health. I was going to ask for vacation time, then I got kind of paranoid over the possibility of having complications and needing more time off (this was when I was still waffling between lap-band and RNY). They all know about the upper GI testing I've done and when I tell them I'm having minor surgery, let them guess. Its telling my Mom that I worry about. Peej
  8. I had the same concern/fear. My lack of energy was my main reason for deciding I needed outside help in the first place. One of the bariatric nurses told me about a weight management class at a local hospital designed especially for large people. It is part of their cardiac/pulmonary rehab unit. All the equipment is appropriately sized and the staff is accustomed to working with people who haven't moved in awhile. It has been a lifesaver for me. Once I've regained some strength, going to a regular gym hopefully won't be so daunting. Good luck with Curves. I've heard nothing but good things about them. Peej
  9. My name is Peej and I am being banded (HMO willing) on 4/22/08. I'm sailing thru getting the prereqs done so far but that hasn't stopped me from being nervous! Though, focusing on the insurance requirements has distracted me from being nervous about the actual surgery. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. Peej
  10. My consult is in 2 days and they ask about fen/phen in BIG BOLD TYPE which scares me a little. I got checked out way back when and had no probs but I know some docs/insurance cos are stricter than others. <sigh> Wish me luck? Peej
