Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge
teaqueen replied to vsgSarah3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It was exciting to be the winner last week...but it was also my surgery week. Not quite so dramatic this time! 196.6 -
I am early in this process, but I am opting for a monitored relationship with carbs. They are a part of my family's regular diet, I just need to work out how to safely enter them into the diet plan. My reality is that I have husband and kids that I cook for and like to share meals with. One of my biggest hurdles with this surgery was to address the social issues with food, drink and being part of the family interactions at the table. I spent a lot of time working my head around how to keep the things I love to do with my family (eat) and stay true to what is good for me. Part of it will be feeding my family meals that are less carb loaded. As the cook, I have some control there! The other part of it will be figuring out how to eat with my family and stay on plan when it is a carb heavy family favorite. I am still working out how to serve spaghetti night, but I think it can be done and not crimp the social interaction for me. I can't imagine never eating fruit or a piece of bread again, but the key is to figure out the relationship.

I made ONEderland today!! Yay! CW is 199.6. Yes, that is more than 10 lbs this week, but I got sleeved on Tuesday, so recognize that it was a very exciting week! Not expecting it to be quite that dramatic after this. -

To tell or not to tell? WLS
teaqueen replied to RLH7882's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have told 6 people: my husband, my 2 teenagers (who seemed completely unphased), 2 of my 8 sisters who I knew would be supportive (one of them had gastric bypass 15 years ago), and lastly, my work partner because we travel together and I'll need her support once we start flying a couple of weeks after surgery. I travel for work each week to different locations, so most work relationships are remote or for a few days at a time. I'm most worried about staying hydrated once I'm in the air again. I am deliberately choosing not to tell casual friends from church, school, and neighbors. They will talk enough as it is...no need to explain anything! I only needed to overhear a couple of catty chicks talking about wls once (and going on about how overweight people need to learn to push back from the table) to realize silence is golden. ???? Surgery on 1/5/16....excited, nervous and probably over stalking the boards out here! -
Hi all, Thanks for an awesome and supportive thread. I am having surgery next Tuesday. My starting BMI is 34.5. I have high blood pressure, but not enough for meds. I am just so ready to get healthy and stop fearing the spectre of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. I work in healthcare and see it all the time. I am self pay and having my surgery by a local doc with a cash program stateside. I don't have any type of preoperative diet, but imagine I'll be on clear liquids for 24-48 hours prior to surgery. Husband and kids know and are very supportive. I have kept my "in the know" circle small as I didn't want to deal with negativity. Good luck to you all...wish me luck next Tuesday!

Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

I'm getting sleeved on 1/5/16. This will be a fun way to track the first 6 weeks! I'll give a true start weight Monday after doc visit, but am guessing it will come in around 210. I am setting a goal of 190. Thanks for doing this!! -
Seriously, the caffeine withdrawal is probably what I am dreading the most. I'm due for surgery next Tuesday...I have gotten from 3 cups in the am down to 1 so far. I quit coffee for both pregnancies and the initial headache really sucks. It passes, but that is the part I dread. Hopefully my gradual taper here during liquids week will ease me into the caffeine free New Year!

Felix, you are awesome! Yes, please add me to the prayer list. My surgery is scheduled next Tuesday (1/5/16) and I'm anxious, excited, hopeful and in need of prayer. Hugs to you. I will be adding folks on this thread to my prayer list as well!

Weeks 3, 4 and 5 post op
teaqueen replied to Faithful86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw a recipe out here somewhere for a ricotta cheese bake. It was essentially ricotta with a bit of parmessian cheese and Italian seasoning topped with some sauce and baked. The recipe is reminiscent of lasagna, but no pasta or meat. Covers the soft food requirements and has decent protein from the ricotta. -
Just had surgery 12 days ago - already getting mixed reviews/comments from family and friends. HELP!
teaqueen replied to Lori55741's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hugs and congrats on your journey progress! (I'm scheduled next Tuesday 1/5/16!) I have also chosen to keep my surgery quiet from both sides of my large extended family. I know I'll get comments and questions a work, church and family gatherings. I just keep practicing the phrase, "Thank you, I've been working on eating healthy and exercising regularly." I don't plan to say much more. Focus on you and know we are all cheering for you!???? -
Now I understand why we dont tell people we are getting the sleeve...
teaqueen replied to Scottyd1264's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Karen 091866, you crack me up! The "vaginal reconstruction" comment made my day! I'm scheduled on 1/5/16, so starting the New Year off with a huge change. I am keeping my circle of folks in the know very small as well. Hope my doofus encounters are limited!! -
I'm scheduled on Jan 5th. I feel a bit like I'm on the plane with the parachute strapped to my back, getting ready for a big jump. Hopefully I fly and don't fall flat on my face! For staving off a cold, I highly recommend zycam nasal swabs (zinc). Twice a day for a couple of days and you should be feeling better! Stay in touch...I'd like to be able to build a support group of folks getting sleeved the same week as me!

Brand new on this forum, but my surgery date is also 1/5/15! I'd love to have someone to compare notes with and connect with on this!
