So sorry - haven't been on here much. I feel GREAT! Not fighting my head hunger daily, although it does hit at times when we are out. 20.4 lbs down since surgery and another 10 before.

Cardiac clearance question
AmyQwith2 replied to Tan4sho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The stress test and echocardiogram was required for me as well - even after a perfect EKG. All part of my surgeon and my cardiologist's requirements. I was glad to have it actually - I'd rather know about any problems ahead of time. I actually do have some thickening already - but I am diabetic also (type 1) so I am looking at it a bit differently. -
There are some decaf coffee Protein drinks out there also - if that is your thing. But adding the unflavored to broth is probably your best bet to avoid sweetness. I love the versatility of the unflavored.

Insulin Pumpers having VSG?
AmyQwith2 replied to Lynnette43's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am going to keep sippies of juice by my bed just in case, but I will probably not take much more insulin than my basal dose at first since I will not be eating much. I was worried too and saw my endo last week. She said that it hasn't been a problem with her patients as log as their basal doses are set correctly. -
After sleeve surgery in June 2015 my A1c went from 6.3 to 11. Why? Is pancreas involved?
AmyQwith2 replied to Vlh53's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An endocrinologist can order to a test that will tell you how much insulin your pancreas is producing. It is uncommon for adults to develop Type 1 diabetes, but not impossible (I was diagnosed at age 26). When it develops in adulthood it is caused by an autoimmune disease. I have not heard of a pancreas being damaged by the surgery (and I have read everything I can re: diabetes and surgery), but anything is possible I suppose. Please see an endocrinologist you feel comfortable with - it took me 8 doctors to find one I liked - keep trying if you need to. A good endocrinologist will listen to you and get to the bottom of it. -
I am tentatively scheduled for March 7th. I have had my initial consult, 1st visit with nutritionist, hospital seminar (required at my hospital), 1st cardiologist appt done, psych eval done, 1st gastro appt done. I still have to do my stress test and echocardiogram, endoscopy, pulmonologist appt (this coming week) and 1 more nutritionst appt. Insurance approval hasn't been given yet either, but my Doc sees no problems since I meet the qualifications. Looking for people to share this journey with...

I am still pre-surgery but my doc tried me on Contrave in Sept. For reference, I am 5'10" and BMI was roughly 36/37 at the time. I lost about 20 lbs in 2 month and then bottomed out. No other weight could come off. So I stopped taking it. And then I gained about 10 lbs back. When I saw the NUT for the first time she was asking about my previous attempts at weight loss and she told me that in her experience, the drugs are only effective while you are taking them. Afterwards, most people will put the weight on. She thinks I was in a stall and it might have pushed the weight farther down if I had waited longer (I waited 3 weeks before stopping). Should have also stated that it DID make me nauseous when I started it, but the nausea subsided after the first week or two.

Anyone scheduled for March?
AmyQwith2 replied to AmyQwith2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am married and have 2 kids - 6 and 9. We just told them last night because my 9 year old has been asking about why I am seeing so many doctors. He was starting to get nervous that there was something wrong with me - and I had planned on telling him anyway (although I would have rather waited until insurance approval went through first). I just told them that Mommy was going to a lot of doctors so that I can make sure I'm healthy enough for surgery. The surgery is going to help me lose weight and be healthier. We then explained that I will be sore for a little while, and that I will be eating differently for a while - but that the results will be worth it. -
Anyone scheduled for March?
AmyQwith2 replied to AmyQwith2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only have to do liquids the day before my surgery so I escape the 2 week liquid diet I have been doing 2 protein shakes a day for a few weeks already (mon-fri) and will probably just do it all 7 days those last 2 weeks. -

Has anyone had an improvement in acne?
AmyQwith2 replied to curlychic32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pre-op so can't speak about how surgery affects it, but I have noticed that 2 things cause my acne to flare: dehydration - which may be why some people see acne after surgery. When my face dries out in winter, I get acne in the driest areas. A good face lotion will stop it, so I know it must be related to the dryness. excess sugar in my diet - I'm a diabetic so it may be worse in my case than others, but if I don't eat sugar (or not much) then my skin is clear, but if I overdo it - breakouts will follow. -
Metabolism/Beta Blocker

Anyone scheduled for March?
AmyQwith2 replied to AmyQwith2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really have one either. Just supposed to eat better now - protein shakes 1x a day if I want. All liquid the day before. That's it though. -

I'm so jealous that you are approved already! Want to call my office to be sure they sent it in but I don't want to be too much of a pain in the ass Endoscopy next Monday and sleep studystill to go. Then I should be all set! Marissa I'm the 7th so our dates will be really close! -
I was a 36.6 at initial consult - but after a few lbs of weight lost (on Protein shakes 2x a day and trying to follow the bariatric plate - getting used to eating that way now) I am down to 35.7. I will be sleeved on 3/7 and am hoping to be under 35 BMI by then. I am tired of the roller coaster, tired of the weight, tired of the being tired, my cholesterol is crazy - I am a Type 1 diabetic taking too much insulin. Losing weight for me is a torturous, slow process that I give up on... I also feel this is the right decision for me...

Pain/Discomfort/Recovery: C-Section vs. Gastric Sleeve?
AmyQwith2 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I'm still new here but I feel as if I'm getting to know some of you just by reading all of your posts. I am also learning so much and loving this site! Quick question: I have only had 1 surgery in my adult life - a C-section. I know every person is different, and every surgery is different, so I will not take your answers as a guarantee, but I'm curious... If you've had both a C-section AND a gastric sleeve, how would you compare your pain/discomfort/recovery? -
